The Martial Arts Movie Thread 2017 Donnie hates his fans

two things about wolf

-def not a martial arts movie…seems some kinda gritty coming of age bullshit

-i miss the concept of superkickers or just kickers in general. they were all over the 80’s and 90’s now i barely see any kickers in martial arts movies anymore. tonssss of wushu stylist these days.

I feel you on the whole super kicker thing. There really isn’t much of that anymore. It’s like this weird blur of self defence and mma influences. I see the wushu style, but martial arts movies are going in a weird direction now. It seems like folks like marrese crump, marko zaror and others are trying to bring back certain roots and what not. but there is still a weird state the current trend is in.

People trying to do that easy peasy crooked shaky cam Bournce Legacy bullshit instead of actual hard shit that takes months of effort to accomplish.

jackie has always been my fav because all his scenes feel like real fighting. jet li was always cool but he is the most fake out of the top lot but the best at showcasing Chinese forms, or possibly all forms, he’s very good expressionist.

as for Lee Jun Fan, he had the raw realness of jackie to such a high calculation he was a real kung fu god. dude always played a normal guy and still looked like a god

Also. It feels like fight scenes are slower as well. If you look at the fight between Jackie Chan and Benny “the jet” you can see that they were moving super fast. Unlike in Taken whee there is a flash, a shaky camera and the a guy on the ground.

Also I would like to see Jackie Chan in more roles where he plays the mentor. That would ve cool.

Just came back from seeing Grandmaster (Yi dai zon shi).

If anybody here is familiar with Wong Kar Wei, it was VERY much In the Mood for Love with kung fu.
Not in a bad way.

Movie also did an excellent job of providing a visual showcase for the specific differences between many styles of kung fu.

Fuck Wong Kar Wai!

I wanna see Jackie play a bad guy, he has the acting skill to pull it off. If Sammo’s fat ass can intimidate dudes you know a swole ass Chan with some tats would scare the shit out of niggas in HK.

Well he is older. He could pull it off but not in the typical manner. Like a normal looking dude that us a beast is something he could do. Like he has a weird perverse side. We know jet li can do it. Or give Chan a role where he is a
master that teaches his student to use martial arts for bad. I know I found an old movie where Chan is supposedly a bad guy. But the quality was so bad that I couldn’t tell.

Get Chan to bulk up and be some bad ass prisoner running a prison and have the dudes be undercover cops trying to take him out.

imma need you all to see “at the worlds end”…this is a pretty funny comedy. But i was shocked…SHOCKED I SAY…at the amazing fight scenes in it. lol. They have a couple fights but the big one in a bar was fucking jackie chan style shenanigans. theres one part where the main character is fighting, trying to save his beer…hilarious. Also no real martial arts but it feels like it was a martial arts fight…i dunno how to describe it. But i loved it so much.

No you dont, check out Rumble in Hong Kong, one of jackies earlier movies. It was shit.

Jacky plays a broken hero well though, like the last Police Story. Not only was it dark as hell, but seeing Jacky in an unwinable situation really is uncomfortable. Like mad acting skills going on. Its a big step up when your used to his “am a goof ball and keep fucking things up but if you wanna fight ill kill you and your army” bullshit.

The only movie i remember Jackie Chan being a bad guy was in the Killer Meteors…Wang Yu was the lead actor. Jackie played a great villain. I think Jackie can do it again but im not really sure i want him too…Gordon Liu did it in Last Hero in China & was just gross felt odd. Wang Yu playing the bad guy in Wu Xia was great but he was a bad guy in real life haha.

Rough cut of the indie martial arts film DOG. It feels like they are channeling a bit of Jet Li’s Danny the Dog. Either way not too shabby.

I started watching Grandmaster. So far it isn’t bad, decent fight scenes and what not, but it is really filler until TYG2 and The Raid 2 come out.

Scott Adkins in Ninja: Shadow of a Tear…

Shadow of Tear reminds me of those late 80s/early 90s B martial arts films…Kane Kosugi needs to do more movies…

I guess this makes up for the other Ninja movie he made. LOL!!! Well maxx and DJ, you ave your super kicker in Scott. lol!

Yeah he can kick but not like Marko zaror imo. I would like cong li in more films. I like his hard hitting raw fighting style in his movies.

scott isnt a super kicker…tim man…who is in the movie is a super kicker.

btw namiko is a very shitty ninja…how you gonna let a dude sneak up on you. and the great white hope beat you up??
