The Martial Arts Movie Thread 2017 Donnie hates his fans

i thought it was pretty shitty with all the young emo asians in the mall doing some wannabe gangsta shit.

the first 3 police stories are dope as fuck though.

I defo agree to that but in the last one the entire mood was different, everybody gets killed and Jacky isnt god tier anymore. Ive seen all his movies, that is defo his biggest out of character portrayal. Shit even in Shinjuku incident he kicks some major ass and they were going with the same vibe. It did not compete.

lets not forget the random wire fu from jacky.

Just saw Man of Tai Chi, I liked it. Love the teacher/student dynamic the most, Tiger Chen and his master are badasses.

Lolz at Keanu being Keanu but he’s so good at it!

Y’all got to check out a Sonny Chiba movie called “Karate Warriors” I’m going to look at it tonight (hopefully). I would have posted a link to the film but it showed some tits. LOL!!!

Behind the scenes featurette for Tom Yum Goong 2, with Jija Yanin.

I prefered tom yum to Ong Bak. but I supposed the difference between the two is similar to Oot and majoras mask

Ong Bak felt like it was the guinea pig as far as showing a new style of martial arts in films. We had Jackie Chan and jet li movies Hein released so much because we wanted to see mass bad guys get taken out. Tom yum going was good because it took the ong bak formula and went higher. Honestly I feel the raid took what ong bak and Tom yum did and made it what it was supposed to be.

the story was much better in the raid, but tony is the better martial artist and does the crazy stunts like chan did back in the days. i like tonys fighting style better and hes a better athlete, but raids actor is better as an actor and the movie as a whole is better. ong bak and tom yum are more like combo movies with bs sprincled in between. the combos are the best ever seen, but the rest of it is pretty mediocre.

I agree with that. I Think Tony has the better all around martial arts capacity, plus he has Panna Ritikrai (his former teacher) still helping him and choreographing al his movies. As far as Iko Uwais is concerned, I think he has better close proximity fights. In the Raid, the shit he was doing to cats in the hallway was just absurd, but it was all in very close proximity. Iko lacked big stunts, which is cool, because the movie really didn’t call for it. Also Tony has been the sole star in his movies, really just taking out bad guys and not having anyone who can give him the business. In The Raid you simply had Mad Dog. Dude is a beast and will be in The Raid 2. Basically it seems like how can they make the fight scenes more brutal.

the raid seemed more like a semi realistic action film to me, not really a martial arts film; while tony jar is doing showcases.

fav fight scene of the week

I feel that. Iko Uwais is the Indonesian poster boy for action. But the fight scenes were on point.

For some reason I really enjoyed this fight scene.

ong bak is a demo reel with a budget. nigga had no plot, no real direction…it was a fucking side scrolling martial arts movie version of a beat em up. he just kept moving forward or right on screen lol.

Lol very true. I never thought of it like that.

Green Street 3

Scott Adkins, Joey Ansah, Christian Howard all in the same movie.
Looking forward to this as Joey handled all the fight choreography and action direction

So Tony Jaa and Ivan Drago (Dolph Ludgren) are going to be in a film together.
