So okay.
You compare Halo Grenade throwing and running around shooting to:
1 scene of someone flashbanging a room and then clearing it. Then luring the survivors out so his teammate can fire at them from the side.
1 scene of someone having his teammate throw a smoke grenade and then shooting the opponent using blind fire from cover.
Because i assume those are the ones you are referring to right ?
These because they don’t have the grace of teamwork. They are basically commando style.
I also think the cover system is a little biased to the person in cover, but not because of the cover, but because of the third person view switch that lets them see around a corner/wall, while the person not behind cover has a first person view and can’t see behind the wall. This doesn’t make complete sense from a realistic POV of how cover should work, but it should maintain the first person feel.
For a game that is suppose to be pretty realistic, that just seems off, guy behind cover can see someone even though the other guy can’t see him.
That’s my take on it, but I’m not much a fan of FPS’s anyway, I can’t figure out how people get so good at headshots and reflex shots.
Yes, the video did show some teamwork, but it wasn’t consistent all the way through. IMO.
1:35:
Yea he is not using cover.
Do believe that is how actual gunfights happen ?
Two sides solely sitting behind cover shooting at eachother ?
2:25:
Same thing.
You seem to have this weird notion that because cover is not used 90% of the time the game is just run and gun which is frankly retarded.
You also said:
Yea it’s kinda hard to use teamwork when you are alone.
About cover i don’t know what to tell you.
I suggest you find a doorway in your home.
And stand with your back against it.
Now peek around the corner.
Amazing isn’t it ?
And yea the game tries to be realistic yet uses a third person view when you are using cover.
It also uses a HUD which does not exist in real life.
It also allows you to respawn which is also not possible in real life.
So i guess it’s not all that realistic.
Battlefield:Bad Company 2 has the most fun FPS multiplayer I’ve ever played.
TF2 is fun but there’s just not enough variety and the maps are not set up in a good enough way to really emphazise the differnce in classes, IMO. Still fun but gets boring after a few matches. I think the maps are too small.
Ya, unfortunatly my POS computer can’t run it very well. They were supposed to release the PC DLC on 360 by now, but I guess that will never happen now.
Also GOW2 isn’t a FPS (it’s 3rd person) but it’s still the most fun shooter multiplayer. They just got the whole “feel” and flow of that game down perfect.
You mean isn’t how gunfights are supposed to play out? Bummer.
Actually the aspect of giving the person in cover a third person view puts an opponent on the other side at a disadvantage.
Use your own example of the doorway. You have to expose yourself to see around the doorway, that was my only real gripe.
At :40 I see a guy run into a hall and get shot at from a room, and then take off down the hall and get shot by another guy. I don’t see the strategy in running into gunfire like that.
The game doesn’t have to be 100% realistic, so stop being stupid and mentioning the HUD. The game is first person until you hide behind cover, than it switches camera views. Why not make that first person too? Why is the person behind cover not required to expose themselves to see on the other side?
Don’t be so fucking conceited, I wasn’t even hostile in that post, but then you go VF on me and be a dick.
Lol its just too awesome. I never really cared about watched wrestling, but this is extremely entertaining. I may have found something new to watch .
Fair enough, well I’ve not played either, just quoting what I’ve heard. From what I recall Deus Ex was pretty special in that you actually forged the storyline yourself rather than the usual “yeh you can go anywhere in the world, but the actual story only moves on if you go to X and do Y”.
I know what you mean by both those things, but I really don’t think L4D has either does it?
I don’t have a problem with either mechanism really though, it just depends what suits the game & the control method. I do think things ought to be made more “console controller” friendly at times.
laughs Ah now that does look like a videogame shooter I love Police Squad.
Incidentally nothing in FPS view is very “realistic” at all. Third person is not necessarily better, but it actually does a much better representation of peripheral vision. Of course games like Halo & COD add the scanner/map too which I think are really good ideas for this reason. The “10 degree” dalek-eye view in FPS has always seemed very silly to me!
Deus-Ex was and is bloody incredible. The combat could use some tweaking but personally I wouldn’t change a thing. In my opinion it is the greatest FPS ever made. Why?
Best story I’ve ever seen in a game.
You really could tackle each situation many different ways.
Choices mattered.
Multiple endings.
The pacing was practically perfect.
The amount of time put into defining the characters, settings, and story shows what a high quality work it was.
