The MarsGatti Farewell/Peace Out Thread

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is the only FPS i have so far really liked.

Try some Half-Life.

I have.

The only show I watched at all was the new Battlestar Galactica, and that ended last year. Such a good series. Before that I watched Alias pretty frequently too.

Alias was another great show that had a great first few seasons and then just derailed because they had no idea how to finish it (the last 2 seasons were bleh).

Shari - msg me if you ever wanna play Vegas 2, I own it. Have you tried Deus-Ex for PC???

Yes.

YOU DIDN’T LIKE DEUS-EX?!? Young man, you and I are gonna rumble…

man if shari played TF2 PC and didn’t like it

it’s gonna be a throwdown

I bet you just watch those for the hot chicks.

They are hot, and they are probably idiots.

I want a smart woman.

I don’t like TF2 very much! :stuck_out_tongue:

I mean, I think the game itself is kinda fun, but there’s seemingly no way to actually get on a team together with your mates, and it’s just huge teams playing with almost zero teamwork anyway, random people dropping in and out - it kinda makes a mockery of the title. I honestly hate the way Valve’s lobby system works - the way Halo and COD do their online modes is so much more fun as you can easily get a team with your friends and use actual teamwork, and get an actual competitive match going, win or lose. If TF2 had a good system like that, then I’d definitely try and play it again, but sadly it just seems to be a total mess for me. Same thing in L4D (which I really like, but the Versus mode setup is again terrible), although I’ve not tried L4D2 “Team Versus” that sounds like a step in the right direction.

PS: While I’m sorta-trolling - I also think HL is a bit rubbish. I just finished HL2 and slated it in a review that had a load of my friends boiling, hehehe. I honestly don’t see what’s great about HL2. The only reasons people have come up with so far are to do with the toybox and tech aspects of it - nothing to do with the merit of the actual game (gameplay if you like). I just cannot stand the “save anywhere” system that destroys all tension and difficulty in the games.

Never tried TF2.

I love the characters in it and the animations and movies they have made for it.
The problem being that most FPS games that try to focus on teamwork by introducing classes tend to inevitably boil down to Run and Gun with a different weapon.

I think the Spy is a really interesting class though and reminds me somewhat of the stealth setup you could do in MW1 that i actually had some fun with.

For anyone that does not know a Stealth setup would be a silence SMG and Sidearm, A perk that made you not show up on radar and a perk that made you move without noise meaning you could sneak up on people and shoot/stab them.
Was kinda fun for a while until everyone realized what the best setup was in that game and it just became Run and Gun.

This is somewhat related to why i like Vegas 2.
The aspect of Teamwork is done by necessity rather than classes or roles.
Damage is very high which promotes the use of Cover, flanking and similar tactics.
Customization of your equipment is also rather high without locking you into a single role.
If you want to a very mobile Sniper you can be.
If you want to a heavily armored AK-47 psycho and heavy being relative to this game you can.
But even with those choices you are not locked into that.
As you always have the choice of a second main weapon, you can with a good setup perform just about any role you are required to do.

Run and gun is virtually nonexistant as you can barely fire while moving and even when you can it is rather risky as the cover system gives the person using it a vast advantage over someone out in the open.

And also the single thing that makes me love it over any other console FPS.

NO AUTO AIMING.

edit:

Deus Ex was a good RPG Hybrid.
It was not a very good FPS game.

I like the first 2 seasons of 24. The rest of the seasons got pretty crazy even by their own standard. I also enjoyed watching Lost, but that too got pretty ridiculous. So did they ever explain why Desmond can time travel?

My current favorites are Dexter, Burn Notice, True Blood, and Big Love (Yes this is a good show).

Interesting. I appreciate your FPS perspective here. I’ve totally missed out on this Vegas 2 thing though, I’ve never even seen anyone I know playing it.
L4D doesn’t have any auto-aiming though, I don’t think console TF2 does either.

I’ve heard that it’s pretty much the ONLY “true” computer RPG ever made (in the original sense of the word roleplaying game; not the current bizarre usage). I’ve got it and plan to play it one day.

Auto aiming i refer to the “helpful” way in which most console fps games will nudge you towards your target as long as your sight is somewhat near it.
It’s complete shit.

To give you an idea of Vegas 2 Gameplay:

Multiplayer:

Wow SP looks fun, but it looks like multiplayer devolves into halo grenade throwing and empty half a clip into something to kill it.

I have trouble seeing how Deus Ex is any purer a role-playing experience than the Elder Scrolls series (no matter what you think of the actual gameplay). By and large, I think Western RPG developers do a pretty good job of creating a world and letting the player create an avatar that lives within it.

I think the confusion may stem from the closely-aligned terms ‘aim assist’ (which is typically what PC shooter aficionados decry in console titles) and ‘auto-aim’ (which is usually associated with a lock-on mechanic like the Metroid Prime games).

What ?
Were you looking at the same video as i linked ?

Yes, the multiplayer video didn’t look anything like the SP video.

Looked like some running and gunning and chucking grenades cause you know someone is over somewhere.

Sorry, I just didn’t see the teamwork and strategy in the multi video.
