Next one is in January right? That should be more than enough time to get some cash together.
PU 2010 is May 28-30, unless we’re thinking something different?
Either way, any time we can do some commentary sounds epic. I’ll see what I can do for PU2010 if I have the $.
Oh shit that IS soon LOL I’ll be there.
Edit: Nvm, didn’t see that it was in Ohio. : /
Oh, come on Jiggly, you should come down one of these days! Talk Phlush into coming with ya, LOL.
You guys do need to make it to Seasings Beatings in Columbus this winter.
If I could get a ride there and back I’d go no questions asked man. The problem is GETTING a ride.
Wow, that’s brilliant. I second this nomination since Vintage loves to talk and I wouldn’t doubt his knowledge of the game.
Damn that video was nice, and the commentary and support from the tournament looks like it was hopeless (again in my experiences). Dickheads.
Amazing that Royal Phlush (Ph right?) was playing on a pad though. It looked like a modded Saturn pad, right?
My only beef would be that Ryu is increasingly #1 in HDR by the looks of things.
Don’t make Mars come back from his Family Man Making Adventures to flash kick you into remembering that Ryu is not number 1, he’s just the most practiced and the most polished tournament character, i.e. he has the least amount of bad matchups. But let’s not derail this awesome example of total derailment with talk about tiers and such nonsense…
g Yep I know the tournament format and the “bad matchups” thing is a huge part of it. Ooops! Hey you posted the SF2 related stuff.
Phlush uses a 3rd party PS3 pad that mimics the layout of a 360 pad. He uses the analog, not the d-pad.
… No I didn’t… Yeah… I guess I did… Oh well, its fine. What can I say, where the conversation goes, the conversation goes!
I’m still waiting for the Top Tier Claw to start winning a lot of tournaments.
… oh no… this is going to quickly turn into the second tier thread if this doesn’t get derailed soon…
Imaginary Hyperbolic Cotangent GO!!!
You know a game that always tripped me out but I loved the music for? Katamari Damacy… I mean really, you’re this little guy rolling stuff up into a massive ball, but it was fun and the music (for the entire series) is amazing…
Castlevania has the best music of any gaming series.
I actually think Street Fighter does. I love the SF2/SSF2/ST/Alpha 1-3 + Gold/3rd Strike OSTs.
On another note i am very much looking forward to this game:
Oh man, Alpha Protocol has been delayed so many times, it better be good! I’m really excited for it as well…
And we’ve already been over the hierarchy of Video Game Composers and therefore their music
Nobuo Uematsu (Most Final Fantasy) = John Williams
Then in some assorted order
Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Some Final Fantasy, other assorted stuff)
Noriyuki Iwadare (Lunar Series)
Koji Kondo (Pretty much everything Nintendo)
Jeremy Soule (Elder Scrolls)
All of these rate higher than SF or Castlevania…
Then everything else.
No they really don’t.
Composers and Game Series are not the same thing.
Final Fantasy Soundtracks have varied in Quality greatly.
So have the Chrono series.
Castlevania and every single one of them has had absolutely amazing music.
Including the GBA and NDS games have absolutely STUNNING music:
Castlevania Order of Ecclesia:
Order of Ecclesia is btw probably one of my favourite Castlevania games of all time.
It is also different genres of music.
Everything you have listed is RPG music.
Castlevania on the other hand is mainly an action game with some recently added rpg elements.
Different styles for different types of gameplay.
Koji Kondo is RPG Music? I would probably grant all the others, but Koji Kondo did Super Mario Brothers…
ANd I am perfectly willing to admit that I come from this as someone who is blatently biased in favor of RPGs and Orchestral Scoring and listens to virtually zero popular music… but even if you take the worst Final Fantasy soundtrack that Uematsu did, and considering the tools he had to work with… you’d be hard pressed to find a better video game music composer than he.
Now, I have nothing against the Castlevania soundtracks, they’re quality, there’s good stuff, and they add to the mood and flavor of the game. BUT, for me, when I think about my favorite Castlevania games, I remember the soundtracks on the whole being good, some great, but I don’t have that one song that pops out in my mind and says “Yeah, I’m a really great piece that I could see being performed for real.”
That is my totally biased (and minority) opinion.

Bloody tears and Vampire killer
I’ve got youtube playlists of castlevania, final fantasy, zelda, and chrono trigger on piano!
