been out for a while, but I didn’t post it.
Not surprising, but I’m having trouble against characters I don’t play as often. So if anyone plays unpopular characters, fight me!
I play elena, she’s unpopular right
except on the internet anyway
Yeah, I’d say so. Just about anyone except Akuma, Ryu, Ken, and Dudley.
I think you drew a lot of incorrect conclusions from your Chun match.
against a good Chun you need to do a lot of damage before she gets meter. that Chun wasn’t playing it ideally, but a lot of good ones will just sit there and threaten you with her cr mk, which cancels into SA2 and takes off a huge chunk of your life. once she gets meter (and especially 2 like she had for a lot of that match) your options are pretty limited. throw out anything unsafe, you’re getting a lot of life taken. just sit there blocking and she’ll throw you until you die.
as far as the throw and you being able to tech it, she has a good throw. unless you anticipate it often she’ll just get it. and hopefully you’re not just guessing throw because a good Chun will see that and then cr mk xx sa2 you to death.
I don’t play a lot of Alex and maybe people from here can give better advice, but my guess is you should be looking for a knockdown and then mixups at the beginning of the match. then once she gets meter you gotta pick your spots. you’re probably gonna eat throws, because that’s the nature of playing against a Chun with meter.
also Chun is a skank so good luck
Just pick another character to fight Chun. That character is pure bullshit and completely ruins the game. The only Chun I respect is Nuki. Fuck that character and practice another character to fight her. Either: Chun mirror, Dudley, Ken, Akuma, Yun, and maybe Makoto/Urien.
How did I lose judgement, though? I’m not too concerned with winning against Chun, I just want to know why I didn’t win judgement.
All I can say is expect Chun to win Judgment a lot.
…or Necro.
Because Judgement is randomly determined…
it’s a beauty contest
In all seriousness, Judgment might as well be considered random. Here is a video of Judgment myths debunked(Chun always wins, Females always win, Necro always wins, etc):

How did I lose…?
working on the next video already. this one is a bit different.
I saw this video after losing, but I still don’t know how I lost. I thought it was determined by points…
do you have a local scene (maybe just a couple friends) you can play with regularly? seems like you want to improve, but online is pretty weird (especially on PSN IMO but online in general) and may not be the best place to learn the game. lots of unsafe stuff becomes safe online for instance. might be worthwhile to see if there’s any kind of local group playing 3s.
I’m headed to college in August, and my roommate and several other friends going are planning on picking up 3s, along with anyone we meet on campus. So I’m building a local scene.
GENTLEMEN, BEHOLD! EPISODE 3.5!

I still have no clue how Judgment works after all these years. Possibly the overall grade, or it’s just completely random. I still don’t know how the grading system works, either. lol
Apparently, it really is random. I’m not sure if that surprises me or not.
Judgement isn’t random, I think the person that does the less wins. If you have two players not moving at all for the whole round, except one character doing one normal or one movement, the other person will win
…I’m kind of skeptical about that, though it COULD explain why Chun tends to win Judgment a lot.
Ive never lost a judgement in my life, no matter what character Im playing.
So jungle.
You’ve been playing a lot of scrubs and getting away with mistakes. If you can get on GGPO in the Karnov room and get some games in I think you could get some decent matches (key word: Decent).
Things I’ve noticed:
Never do a regular LK Shoulder to open the match. It’s safe but he can be easily hit out, easy parry (think of it like a nerfed Urien Shoulder) and it’s just not a good idea. I tend to do EX Shoulder, but that’s more or less a bad habit of mine. If I see that they can parry shit, I stop doing EX Shoulder completely. Also EX Shoulder is one of those moves that Ken and Chun can punish with their supers. FYI Ken can also punish you with SA3 if you do Sweep even if it’s at max range. For some reason, Ken cannot punish LK Shoulder with Super… Go figure.
Never do Air Knee Smash. It’s probably his worst move along with the Dive. They can parry it in the air, it’s way too risky, and etc. I use it to troll bad Akuma players who like jumping at the start of the match.
DDT. Didn’t notice you doing that but in general you don’t want to use DDT. It’s too risky and it’s just not worth it, especially if the guy has super loaded. You could try doing it once or twice if you feel that their weak.
Learn his Kara-throw. This is one of Alex’s best tools. This is mandatory to learn. It’s t.HP and LP+LK. It’s also probably the easiest Kara to get out in the whole game.
Don’t use HP Powerbomb. The damage isn’t that much better, it’s slower and has less range than LP Powerbomb, and it pushes Alex away to about fullscreen distance. Use LP Powerbomb. It’s fast, can be ticked into, and pushes Alex away to only half screen distance. It sucks using it at mid screen because if they quick roll it’s very difficult to keep the pressure on them. But if you have them in the corner they’re really fucked. If you’re fighting Ken, Chun Li, or the Twins keep in mind that they really, really want to jump out of that corner and they have great options to do that.
How to tick into LP Powerbomb: Cr.LK (wait about half a second) LP Powerbomb. Same with cr.MK into LP Powerbomb. cr.MK is a meaty and will interrupt, but it’s slower. Cr.LK is also a meaty but unfortunately he can get thrown out if you use it on their wakeup. st. LP into LP Powerbomb. You could also do j.HK/HP, st.LP (so the first two hits combo) then LP Powerbomb. Or jumping LP then LP Powerbomb as you land. If you space it right you shouldn’t get thrown when you land. You can also use these same setups for ticking into Kara throw, or just mind fuck them. EX Flash is good if they expect you to throw them.
If you land MP/HP Flash Chop ideally you want to follow up with EX Shoulder. Or if you’re close enough to them st.MP into either EX Shoulder or EX Flash. As you do MP/HP Flash you want to hold back and charge the EX Shoulder. It can be difficult to do, because you might accidentally get a Powerbomb out instead but it’s worth it. If you land EX Shoulder it takes the other guy much longer to quick roll, giving you plenty of time to get on top of them and bully them on wakeup. This is difficult to learn because even with me I do MP Flash (which you should be using instead of HP) and I’m like ‘oh shit, it hit them, they forgot to block and I have no charge!’ and do b.HP on reaction.
Also. Alex can punish every sweep aside from Chun and Yun’s with EX Shoulder. He can punish virtually ever super with EX Shoulder. If Ryu/Akuma do SA1 at close range you can punish with EX Shoulder but not if they try to chip you out at fullscreen. Ibuki’s SA1 is punishable with EX Shoulder if she does the full Kunai super, but if she ends it early she’s kind safe. The only thing you can’t really punish unless they’re right next to you is Necro’s SA3, you have to parry it to get a good punish.
