EX Flash Chop is a pretty good Anti-Dudley tool. Never use EX Shoulder unless you have Yomi or you’re punishing a move.

Alex vs Dudley is 5-5. They both hit each other really fucking hard but whereas Dudley has the better footsies Alex can rape Dudley on knock down. If Dudley is using Duck and Roll or likes doing Short Swing Blow on wakeup (I don’t know why they do that personally) his bHP counters that shit. His Kara-throw can also fuck Dudley up. Dudley’s jump in game isn’t that good against Alex either.

The Dudley match I showed is not my most recent Dudley matches, where I have been doing quite good. This is from a while ago (more than 10 hours of Alex gameplay) so I’ve figured some stuff out by now. One of the things I figured out was cr.MP is a good punish against Dudley.

well then you have a lot more to figure out my friend. those matches we just played btw were to show you how dudley doesn’t fear cr. mp at all notice how just about every time you tried to poke me with it I either st hk it or my own cr. mp would stuff them. Also I was able to parry some of your slash elbows too, And i was trying to show you that it is easy to beat… ( online ex elbow is so weird to parry… first it’s in your face then it’s farther from you than it was a second ago)

Yeah. cr.MP does punish machinegun blows on block, I’ve seen it work multiple times. As far as elbows go, what is a more appropriate way to approach? Jumping in all the time seems really foolish and walking or dashing forward is more than difficult online.

Don’t punish machine gun blow with cr.MP. Punish with EX Shoulder.

Alex is really great because when he has meter, you absolutely just can’t jump at him. s.mp x ex knee drop is unbeatable, if mp hits, the knee drop is going to hit too, if you parry mp, the knee drop is going to hit no matter what. You can hope to try and beat mp, but that can be pretty hard if the Alex knows how to time that shit. Otherwise Alex is at best average, I’d almost like to say that he’s a little gimmick based as well, his lack of footsie game an sub-par combo damage and options really hurts him in the long run. Fun char to play as, nevertheless, def. more fun than Yun or Chun.

But how do I approach without shoulder?

You have to weave your way in through jump ins, lk charges, and walking in without getting tagged (against Chun GL)

Jumping isnt as bad as you think in this game because of parry… a lot of empty jumping occurs in 3s. So if you’re air move is getting parried and youre getting puished you need to either do it deeper to not get punished or you need to empty jump grab their parry attempt and now u have a knockdown which is alex’s strong point. After a knockdown you need to be mixing people up which comes with time as you learn your character and the matchups.

EDIT: this game is about mixing everything up you really cant do the same shit 2x against a good player or that shit is going to get parried

I think the Knee is parryable(I feel like I’ve seen it happen once)…it’s just really fast.

As for how FUN he is? I still say Chun is more fun to play as. Beating down scrubs with Chun isn’t fun(same for any character, really), but it can get very intense when you play someone as good as or better than you with her. Alex is too straightforward and aggressive for my tastes to main him, but that’s just me.

New Alex’s might also be tempted to use Down Fierce in the air to get in. Don’t do that. He even recovers some more after a block (parry for even more time) coming in with that, when he hits the ground. Play CPU Alex, easy parry it and see all the time you get to take care of that. Though in using it very sparingly, and your opponent is hit in the air near the corner, it can setup a juggle, with towards Fierce, etc.

As well you should think of “punishes” as big guaranteed damage off their mistakes, not necessarily, “what I can reach them with and is my turn to attack on their disadvantage.” If they’re right on you, but too far for close MK. Try stand MP instead since its cancellable, where cr MP leads to nothing because it isn’t. Don’t try super there though. MP xx Flash Chops, possibly EX if you have meter to spare, and didn’t have time to full charge/had one ready for EX shoulder, or other things.

I haven’t used Superman dive in ages. I almost forgot Alex had it.

Somewhat. His st.MP will lose to Shoto j.HK and any Chun Li jump in. But you don’t want to rely on st.MP into EX Air Knee. Guys who want to parry everything can get through that. It’s a good option but don’t abuse it. You can also do st.MP into EX Flash which is very hard to parry. Or st.MP into MP Flash and set them up. Alex’s Jab just doesn’t AA as well as other characters though.

Down Fierce is fun to use but if the other guy can parry forget about it.

The Dive is useful for two things: To get out of the corner. And to counter Chun AA’s but it’s way more risky than it needs to be. But if it hits Chun you can recover in time to tech her inevitable throw and there’s no real way for her to punish.

Getting in with Alex requires reading, and using some of his best pokes to keep them from getting in (st.MK, t.MP, Flash Chop and EX Flash). Good defense is a good offense.
