First, Jakob is not being serious. He actually hates SFxT and told me that all the “top players” are just trying to say it’s good because they’re pressured by Capcom and because they want bigger pots for when they win. He told me before the video “ask me about SFxT so I can go off about it” and gave some off the cuff, tongue-in-cheek answers when I asked why it’s good. It’s true that aside from the usual suspects here (you know who) HM thinks TN is pretty low level. That’s his opinion, and he’s entitled to it, since he can back it up. If he really was as much of a jerk as you think he is he would have popped off after stunning Josh 6 times in GFs, but he didn’t, and from what I saw he pretty much just said ggs and collected the money.
(Btw, he told me that Jason has some of the best raw talent, and complimented the arcade many times. He was really impressed with how well the tourneys were run).
Second, He’s really nice and helpful and taught me a lot of Bison stuff, and was even kind enough to beat my ass for 28 games straight. Most “top players” will only give you a ft3, if that. In fact he’s the only top player that gave me really in-depth advice besides “stop making bad decisions”.
Third, we were both either sleep deprived or inebriated during the video. That’s as much as I’ll say about that lol.
I think Jakob is cool, his blunt personality might rub people the wrong way but I didn’t really see any behavior out of him during the weekend that was way out of line. I can’t speak for him but I’m pretty sure he would be happy to come back again. If you don’t want him here again that’s fine, but just don’t take too much from a half-assed video we made at like 3 in the morning that was obviously meant to just be entertaining.
His d/f 1 into sway can be done by holding back instead of d/b
He can demo man out of sway (don’t think he could do it in 6)
Sway 1+2 is a new launcher/finisher for combos
Sway 4 is a tracking roundhouse that crumples on counter
Ws 3,2 is a new move for combos (or to catch people slipping)
That’s just some stuff I’ve gotten from him so far, hope that helps.
Yeah, I hate shit like that too. Top players get this god mentality that is pretty unbecoming. Let’s face it, we all knew that we were entering that tournament to basically add to his winnings. That didn’t stop me from entering and having a good time. Without players like us, players like him and Justin Wong and everyone else at the top, wouldn’t make that much money. We love the game too, we just haven’t reached that level yet. It’s sickening commentary really, and it speaks to a community at the top that just doesn’t care about the games that much, or at least as much as they care about winning and getting money.
@Myles, my number is (615) 969-7341. Give me more deets.
@Jason: My xbox tag is Byakugan12. Teach me stuff so I don’t have to listen to assholes like Happy Medicine anymore. I may not seem like it but I’m hungry to learn, I just don’t have as much time as I’d like due to work and having a daughter and whatnot. And that video actually sparked a fire in me. I don’t like someone talking about people I like and respect like that. It’s very disrespectful and short-sighted.
On the whole Happy Medicine thing, there’s a few things I want to point out. He said himself he barely got any casuals with locals, so he can’t really gauge skill there (unless he watched every single match). Plus, I’m sure he played some out-of-staters and assumed they were from TN.
Second, you can tell he’s extremely sleep-deprived and possibly a little drunk. People will say anything then.
Third, it is hard to tell where he’s trolling or not. For a minute, I took his “SFxT is da best” comments seriously, until he started talking about the reasons being characters, costumes, and gems. LOL
Lastly, the dude’s just awkward. People of that awkward caliber usually don’t know when they’re being offensive or not.
Personally, I’m not taking the vid seriously. I’d probably be pissed though if he talked about my lack of Marvel talent, so I can’t speak for you guys.
I just read your response to all this Kinetik, but I already posted my previous message, so I’ll just add some footnotes. He played long sets with me, and Zeth, and Pat as well. There are two points I would like to make. I don’t think that’s something that puts him either above or below other players… that’s just what any player should do if they enjoy the game. I didn’t feel honored or anything by playing him, it was just another person to run sets with. Second, the only thing that REALLY irked me about that video was when he said, “I’m the best Bison player in the US, people should want to play me.” I don’t remember him asking for next at any console, so apparently he just expected us to know he was looking to play and/or beg him to. ARROGANCE.
I don’t mean to say that I hate him or anything. He’s just another guy in yet another hobby (I’ve done tennis and drums at a high level too) I’ve picked up that thinks a lot of himself. He just gave me a lot to think about involving the FGC and my general unfamiliarity with how it works. And I definitely don’t mean this to be an attack on you, Kinetik. I had a lot of fun playing your Rose and look forward to whatever Bison tricks HM might have shown you.

Kinetik: I’m glad you cleared that up; but Astaroth made a really good point, you can’t tell if he is being serious or not especially with the way the video is set up and there was no “disclosure” before the video that some things are meant to be tongue in cheek…I mean he’s a great player, no question there…his tournament results are stunning and I will still be in awe that he was able to beat Wolfkrone/Justin/Ricky and ELIMINATE Wolfkrone all in the same tournament. Regardless that’s a pretty impressive run there and it’s a shame he overslept at EVO.
I just think the video is a little “tough” on our scene; there should have been a “but in reality blah blah blah” about our scene, etc.
But Jacob DID play a good number of casuals that most other top players require money to play against. (Justin, etc)
Wootsick also hit on another point, the FGC is rough in most places and we really are a very VERY chill state. I mean there really is no hatred amongst the players here. Respect is a grand thing to have, but if you want to get to that higher level, sometimes you have to deal with the devil…
Squirts, I’ll add you tomorrow. Believe me, I know of all people what it is like to have the schedule that you do to make time to play. Take your friend Tad for example. He’s been coming to Fight Night every week for months and I didn’t even get to PLAY him ever until this past Friday. He probably didn’t even know I ever played Street Fighter, probably just mysterious guy that someone told him about once but has never seen play…
I’ll help you as much as I can but keep in mind my entire knowledge of the game is off of freestyling, footsies, and what I can adapt to, so there are certain things I know zilch about, but I have played the game enough to understand how NOT to get caught in those indeterminable situations.
GGs to Anthony and Zeth last night, I am sure you both know I used to use Bison at one point from yesterday, I just felt the urge to play him again…
I think when he said "We should be honored by his presence"Pretty much rubbed everyone the wrong way.
Hmm…This is what I’ll do…
-Go to where the Top Players are…
-Troll them with my presence.
-Make Chewbaca sounds when they get hit by Tostada.
-Make a vid on Youtube about how much they suk.
-Then tell them to come to Nashville/Memphis Tennessee for a rematch (except I dont show up when they do).
