Right on the money X, Fighting game players have become rather lazy these days. They see a publicized tourney winning team and instantly copy it so that they can easily win more matches.
Agreed. R.I.P marlinpie dhc glitch combos
I believe we didn’t even come close to discovering all the technology on this game, not even 25%
Its true that information travels 10x as fast at it used to, so I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t have taken 10 years, but we could have been playing this game for at least 4 years with no problems (finding technology I mean, other games coming out and patches are another thing)
Now, when it comes to the community only using certain characters. I think that’s a pretty good thing.
You see, most members of the fighting game community are competitors, and the feeling of competition is what drives them.
Playing a top tier character doesn’t mean that a win is free, it only means that the character you’re playing has no flaws, therefore, you only need to make up for your own flaws and bad habits to make the character work.
On the other hand, if you play a low tier, you don’t only need to make up for your flaws, but for the character’s as well, and that becomes a really hard task for some players, hell, some players can’t even tell the difference between a character flaw and a personal one.
My point is that sometimes, this frustration prevents some players from actually feeling that competition drive that got them into the game in the first place, since at that point you are mostly losing to yourself, and thats when players either quit, rage like demons on the forums, or switch to a top tier character.
When you play a top tier, if your aim is to be at a competitive level that can win tournaments, then you need to understand all your own bad habits and flaws before you can make all these top tier tools work.
That feeling you get from having to adjust turns on that competition drive again, and that’s when you got yourself a long time member of the fighting game community.
Then, after a good time playing like this, these same members now have fundamentals of the game that are way above average, and once they realize this, they start looking for new technology with new characters and new scenarios.
Its no surprise that on our first year, most people are still exploring the same cast. That’s because there is still a lot of the game system we don’t even understand yet. I myself believe that there are veeeeeery few players in this country that actually understand X-Factor and when its best to use it.
Just like in every other game, after the first years, once most people understand the core fundamentals of how to play the game, thats when new characters get discovered, and tier lists change. Now, the tier list might not always change, but the way that characters are played is incredibly different.
Compare the way people played Cable in MVC2 on the first few years, and after that, watch Sanford use him at the finals on EVO 2009.
Sanford’s Cable had to evolve cause of all the competition pushing him, and that was going to happen to every single Wolverine and Phoenix in this game.
We just didn’t have enough time…
Even though it’s a mt, it still kind of makes sense!
It is a shame that a lot was left unexplored. I remember Seth Killian talking about snapback technology that remained undiscovered.
I’m not gonna lie, I’m going to miss the DHC glitch. Sure it’s boring when it’s usually Magneto or Dante going into Sentinel, Wolverine, Dante, Wesker but it made for some stylish combos with other characters. It made Storm godlike since she could start it from anywhere on the screen when in the second slot as long as the first hyper grounded them. Haggar is actually scary on point when he can kill off a pipe. Deadpool, Spencer, Jill, Storm, Haggar or Tron going into Felicia, Morrigan. Hsien-Ko, MODOK, Phoenix (the best one in my opinion), Thor, etc was fun to see and mess around with.
Very few characters are actually fleshed out. There’s still new tech being discovered in Vanilla and there’s probably more we’ll never know about.
I honestly feel like Jill had the potential to be AT LEAST as good as Zero. She has some crazy stuff, when she goes into zerker charge, she can do some crazy cross ups that you can’t even think about reacting to. Honestly if people would have just spent at least two weeks with her, they would have found something I’m sure of it.
As for the rest of the low tier, I’m really not seeing it. Maybe Chun had a little potential, but Shuma and Ko… There is really nothing that can save them, their character design is just flawed.
Raise your hand if you seen that Morrigan combo and your mind was blown.
raises hand
Competitive Fighting Games are double edged
Like MvC3, creative cast we all want to play. But the real winners only care about the best, but do what you gotta do to win.
Seth Killian has mentioned hidden tech for over 9000 characters. Can we really believe him?
Yeah, Shuma and Hsien were lost, no doubt. I agree with Jill, too. People don’t like to work for 600k combos when they can just pick Wolverine and get herp derp 700k’s. That, and the fact that I can’t understand a thing in the Jill combo thread I really think Chun had a lot of potential, but I guess we’ll never know.
ummm don’t mean to be a stickler here but did you discover this about shuma? Because then you are ranting at yourself a little bit, since you seem to be a shuma player.
The problem with Wolverine doesn’t lie within the character (okay, that’s not true, case and point herpderper slash), but he’s one of the best in the whole cast at abusing X-Factor. He’s so good at it that it’s part of his flow chart.
Touch first character
X-Factor
Kill first character and still have at least 50% X-Factor remaining
Deadly mixup on incoming character; if they guess wrong, the game is now 3v1 but if they guess right, they have to eat another mixup unless they have good escape options
True. Also, what in the world did I do with dat random [/v]? xD EDIT- I know. Fixing.
I would like a link to this combo because Morrigan was my original main but got dropped, yet I still play her 1/4 matches.
I can’t wait. A new game that’s more balance and has more shit to do, what’s to miss about the old one?
fuck vanilla.
It was actually some guy on GameFAQs that found it. I spread it around here because I thought it was kinda neat, if not pretty useless.
I’m gonna miss Vanilla’s combos but as far as a more competitive game…Ultimate is our only hope. Either way it’s still MVC3 so I’m gonna have shit to bitch about either way.
always preferred mixups and resets MvC2 style over ToDs. much more room for creativity and fundamentals. Vanilla MvC3 felt like such a chore to play and watch because it was busted shit running the game and people playing a combo memory game to kill a character off a single hit confirm.
bring on UMvC3. can’t wait.
Ill miss longer combos a lottt lol. Also I actually think Ultimate will have way more clear top, top tier characters and might have more derp MVC3 has (Personal derp though, like annoyance lol). Although yea no super OP Phoenix, which was the ultimate BS character so Im really looking forward to that.
