The Last Scoop of Vanilla: Saying Farewell to the Original MvC3

It’s not gonna be hard to say bye to Vanilla because I honestly got bored to watch mvc3 matches during Canada Cup. Watching that Wolverine or Wesker combo over and over again was eating the excitement time in my life. I sit there thinking “I seen this already, It’s nothing new.”

SSF4 AE was super interesting to watch. Mad respects to Momochi, Jozhear, Fword, Coungster, and Xian for going over that top tier barrier, I did not get bored watching these guys’ matches.

Edit: there’s some more that I forget to mention but the Rose player too.

Goodbye Vanilla

I’m definitely welcoming the more keepaway oriented game. The rush rush all the time set of characters running the game was stupid considering a certain set of rushdown characters were better than the others and Zero was looking to be the ultimate counter to other rushdown type characters any ways. Leaving not much room but to lame his ass out and that’s where the new guys are coming in (plus buffs to some of the older lame outs)

I definitely had more fun watching Marvel than SFAE overall. SF AE is just a boring game for me so I don’t really care what people do in it, the mechanics are too loose and it’s too easy to get out of everything. Plus the scaled damage on everything including dizzies, it’s a really tame game. It’s cool to hear people are overcoming the tiers a bit more but it’s too late for me to care anymore.

Wesker/Wolverine combos are pretty easy and standard but Justin really did come back in some situations that should have been impossible. It seems like he still needs work on his Wesker a bit because he went for the left/right akuma mix ups way too often and didn’t just throw in some command grabs instead that would have easily caught filipino off guard.

Speaking of which, is Justin particularly interested in any of the new characters? I imagine he’s going to try everyone out, of course, but any proposed changes to the lineup?

Yeah, but the whole top tier thing in MVC3 is what kills me to watch these matches now… As a newbie that’s trying to improve his game, I use around Mid tier characters to understand my flaws alot better… and it definitely helps to watch people who play around those Mid tier characters. Like during Season Beatings Velocity, Marlinpie’s Viper and Jwong’s X-23 was soo sick, those were really good to watch. Canada Cup does not have anything comparable to them in MVC3… Though I do like Fchamp’s Dormammu.

I haven’t heard but I imagine he’ll gravitate towards a character like Firebrand or something. Firebrand just seems like a J.Wong character to me. Doesn’t seem too execution intensive, but has a lot of tools for a lot situations and it’ll be a character that he’ll only be using till others realize he’s good and start running him also. Justin always likes to be the first guy to find that character that people overlook as game controlling so we’ll see. That’s basically what he did with Wolvie and She Hulk so we’ll see if he does the same with Firebrand.

You’ll have to watch top tiers in every fighting game so you can’t really run away from that. Plus if you consider who got top 2 at Canada Cup…J.Wong’s first character is a character that struggles for B tier at best and Dorm is just your standard A tier character. I know Justin hates Phoenix players but you still have to respect how a Phoenix player pretty much has to rely on resets to build meter and kill people off. Filipino Champ had mix ups and pressure up the ass with a character which people originally thought was just a standard lame out type when the game released.

The nice thing about MVC3 is that not every character on a team is even top tier but still very viable.

J.Wong’s X-23 was garbage (Meep the guy who almost beat Mike Ross was is completely better) and only picked him up last minute after watching another local X-23 player use him. Hoepfully he’s learned some new stuff with her by now. I definitely agree that Marlin’s Viper is nice but it’s pretty obvious she’s basically top tier and shuts down a lot of the cast and still probably will in Ultimate minus some issues with some of the new lame out characters. The only thing really holding her back is execution and a reliance on special moves which is easily overcome at a high level of play any way.

I am genuinely going to miss the DHC glitch, I’d have rather seen damage massively toned down overall than this interesting bit of potential team synergy gone. And I’m certainly going to miss Phoenix/other meter whore/Morrigan teams. Oh, and float assists.

So Storm can’t call assists while floating anymore, huh. Must’ve been a glitch.

Combos were really not that long apart from a certain few characters though. Thats why I was kind of surprised they felt the need to lower the hitstun. Although I guess building 2 bars per combo is a bit to much. Like only certain chars, Dante, Zero, Magneto etc come to mind that use long combos as bnbs so eh :.

And nah, I def. feel that the game is heading to a better direction with keep-away being more viable so in the end I’d prefer it too. But also in SF4 lately (Mostly cause of the stupid reversal window) I keep loosing cause I get bored zoning and am to aggressive cause of it [I rly need to play 3rd strike…]. Altho im really not that impatient so Idk why I keep saying that. I think its cause I dont play offline a lot and I don’t take online to srs and just wanna have fun after having played a while (E.G SF4 its only lately that I loose like that) so I just wanna run through everybody with mixups lol. But its fine, Im prepared with 3 teleport chars anyways =D! lol.

Lately cause I’ve played SF4 to much Marvel has been more entertaining to watch overall. If I had to pick a game in the end though… Just some of the stuff thats allowed and thats effective in MVC3 is pure BS and almost no other fighter that I’ve played at least, makes players get away & encourages certain stuff. But I dont wanna start that discussion as I do love MVC3.

I gotta watch that Meep guy 0_0 but yeah, If it’s anything to watch mvc3 it’s the phoenix matches, on the using and opposing sides… But tbh I got bored of watching those type of matches too after watching Season’s Beatings and Canada Cup mvc3 stream on Saturday…(I didn’t see mvc3 sunday) and watched some sc2 matches with some buddies instead…

but you know what’s really good about Vanilla? It really was a good revival after the mvc hiatus and I cannot deny that fact.(though I had doubts on it at first due to the reduced cast)

I think I remember Justin Wong saying he wanted to play Iron fist so he might do that. Although this IIRC was quite a bit ago so he might have changed his choice. I heard Marn & Viscant were picking up Vergil in Ultimate so that’ll be fun to see too. Marn probably being the flashier/crazier one and V using what’s necessary

Storm

  • New Move: DP+S = Fair Wind, pushes opponent away
New Move: RDP+S = Foul Wind, pulls opponent towards her

Storm’s Winds have better distance coverage than Magneto’s (she pushes/pulls more than him) but overall slower. These moves also affect opponents when they are downed

  • Appears to do better damage overall

  • Hailstorm covers more space on the screen making it harder for opponents to jump over it. Hailstorm can be mashed for more damage/hits

+/- Changes to her normals/jump loop combos. Seem to have better overall normals with altered jump loop combos. (?)

- Cannot call assists while floating from super jump. She can still call assists while floating if done after a normal jump

She still can if they changed the properties I think they changed. The only thing I think they changed is the fact that Storm was the only character that could SUPER JUMP then call assists. Traditionally in the game for every other character you CAN NOT do that. Once you super jump you can’t do anything but point based air actions. You have to use wall jumps, double/triple jumps or flight to get to super jump height and still call assists.

I think they just took away Storm’s ability to super jump, activate float and call assists. That specifically must have been some kind of glitch because any character that super jumps, then activates their flight mode can’t call assists but strangely Storm can call assists during a move that’s basically gives her a more maneuverable flight mode at the cost of having to descend during it.

Now you’ll just have to regular jump, fly up first then float and call assists.

I’m torn on vanilla. On one hand I’ll miss DHC glitch, but then again I’m glad it’s gone so I won’t be as depended on it to win. Vanilla taught me to look at the basics better and grasping a better knowledge about your team and your main.

Justin said that he was definitely playing Iron Fist after Canada Cup when he and Filipino Champ talked about Ultimate.

I’m going to miss being able to special cancel :d: + :h: with Haggar.

I’m going to miss shooting fools form accross the screen, teleporting, and comboing them after.
But most of all, I’m going to miss the Ghetto-ROM, which took me 3 weeks to master.

Goodbye Vanilla, we hardly broke you.

I will miss nothing about DHC Glitch. Nor derpy Best Friends team ups.

Ultimate MvC3 will usher in the most legit tournament play we’ve ever seen, simply because Capcom will patch out any crazy glitch that is happened upon this time. I’m a firm believer in the fact that DHC wasn’t patched out because of the onset of Ultimate.

And Fanatiq is gonna be like some kinda great prophet. So many people across the world gonna get exposed as frauds soon. (I hold no ill will to anyone, just repeating the truth.) The only thing that I disagree with is Phoenix. DP will still be OP as shit IMO. And it seems only Champ will be repping her, lol.

I think I discovered something new just last night and got all excited about it looking into how I could record it. Then I realized, it doesnt matter in a week… Also after the initial waves oh oh crap thats cool I realized it isnt practical at all. Anyway, apparently Dorm’s lvl 3 isnt invincible, it just has a ton of armor on it(Dont know if this is new news or not). So with Task at full screen if enough arrows from his super shooting low you can actually shoot the lvl 3 projectile enough time to stop it and land a few arrows on Dorm. If this is done at the end of a match it results in extremely salty ragemail.

I’m going to miss She-Hulk. When she was first introduced I thought she would suck and was a waste of character slot. She’s my 5th most used character and I love her. (Not as much as Morrigan)

I got a lot of stuff I never told anyone about that’s gonna undoubtedly be gone in the new game.

It’s a shame. Ah well, my Dante BNB will still work! That’s… something, I guess.

Err… His level 3 doesn’t destroy Dark Phoenix, F.Champ just forgot that Arthur’s level 3 is more than one hit.
Jill’s “hidden Tech”, by that I’m guessing you mean the fact that she can cancel everything into a feral Crouch? That and more were out since late Feb early march.
Devitalization only nullifies Hadokens and small projectiles. It doesn’t really do much.

Besides that, I somewhat agree.
