The Last Scoop of Vanilla: Saying Farewell to the Original MvC3

Was that the one where Nini almost sent him to Losers?

The part that irritates me a little is what the news article on deadlines was talking about and working with Marvel’s deadlines creating the rush. Though I guess that’s what happens when you’re working with another company who’s pretty much in the deal to advertise their new movies and other products.

I feel bad for sure, but I like the hype (different hype from MvC2 hype, but still hype) that it gave me for the series. Call it what you will, but this game is fun. It’s like crack – it just won’t kill you (fast at least).

salutes

Here’s to hoping for 10 more yea…months of Mahvel.

I’ve got 200+ hours of Marvel 3 on my Xbox alone, and I’m happy to be leaving Vanilla behind.

I really do love the game, but at the same time I see now we were basically playing a beta version. The DHC glitch is the big culprit to me, as it forced team synergy in a do or die way (If you aren’t playing Phoenix/Wolvie or using DHC glitches, you aren’t playing the game right as Justin Wong said @ Season’s Beatings).

The beauty of the Vs. games to me is building a team that works as a group, while still having some reason YOU are playing it. I play Hulk / Taskmaster / Super Skrull in Vanilla. I was dead set from the beginning to run Skrull on my team, as I love the character and his design. Hulk worked for me as a basic battery, bruiser type (Gamma Crushin’ like a muthafucker) and Taskmaster worked well DHC wise and kinda passed as a zoning character and gave Hulk a good assist. With the DHC glitch, no matter how good I have gotten (not saying I am good even) I really should replace Hulk with anyone to use the glitch. I can’t express how much I am looking forward to not seeing the glitch online, and be a mainstay in tournament play. Watching skilled players like Fanatiq and Marn just build their entire gameplan around the DHC glitch just soured me (and I watch all the major streams, WNF weekly, etc.)

With that shit gone, people will explore the whole roster (save poor, poor Lei Lei) and not just go on autopilot as much.

12 new characters, all of which look great. I wish there were buffs to some of the underplayed characters (buffing Wesker and Zero, seriously?) but none of us even have the game yet, so we’ll see what happens.

Bring it on. I’m dead serious when I say I’d pay 40 bucks to remove the DHC glitch alone, the new characters and stages are a bonus to me.

WORD. I can’t wait to see how the new system and a little more time might shake up the balance of power. Bye DHC glitch, hello resets.

P.S. The Skrull queen will be quite pleased

I’m happy in general to leave Vanilla behind. I feel a lot of characters didn’t get the shine they deserved, i.e. Skrull, Felicia, MODOK, Thor, etc. and with Ultimate I want to be able to fight a wider variety of characters.

what I’m most excited about is the new characters, though. there’s a lot of potential to be discovered with these characters, so on Nov 15, we’re all going to be on equal footing with regards to finding out what the new characters are capable of.

bye bye DHC Glitch and Best Friends, hello new BS.

Bolded for emphasis. I’ve heard quite a few top players (like Floe I believe) mention that MODOK is seriously good, but not enough people give him a shot. Here’s hoping Ultimate makes people consider him.

Mental Organism Designed Only for Comboing

Mental Organism Designed Only for Kwestionable tier.

That’s what I call him.

But anyways, it’s a cycle. People figure out that Wolvie/Akuma is really good. New tech for them. People drop other characters. More people playing Wolvie/Akuma/whatever top tiers. New tech for them. People drop other characters.
It just goes on until there’s almost no one showing off Felicia or MODOK or Skrull at tournaments.

I think people are missing the point a bit, vmvc3 wasn’t broken open.

I mean if we compare mvc3 to mvc2 life at this point. blackheart, sentinel, spiral, commando and cable where killing everything. Especially cable, and while things didn’t change to much as far as who was top and who wasn’t the meta and dynamics of the game radically changed.

Mvc3 I feel like even more so than mvc2 had alot of growing and changing to do, but at the same time alot of that will be figured out with ultimate hopefully. We missed alot of potential stuff in vmvc3…but i look forward to future combo video’s of what could have been.

vmvc3 biggest problem was that altho there was alot of potential in other characters you have to work far to hard to use it as compare to your wolverines, phoenix, wesker, sent and other higher tier characters. Combine that with the sheep like mental of ALL people, then you get what you get. Xfactor also makes things more of a coin toss with vmvc3…it was just to strong for some and not strong enough for others.

Despite the new things going in in Vanilla (characters, modes, balance, etc.), I will be heavily disappointed if the online continues to suck ass.
A friend and I were playing AE all night to morning playing online Cross Counter style and my love of the game rekindled after thinking I was done with AE months ago.

I’d rather have XF be toned down long before DHC glitch. XF was the root of all the game’s problems. DHC glitch was half the reason I even tried any of the other cast and it was mostly the reason we even saw Storm in competitive play. I’d even tone down Tron/Haggar assists (though not have nerfed Tron’s assist AS BADLY, just way more recovery) before DHC glitch.

Hulk sad nobody fully explore undiscovered Hulk tech. But Hulk get more armor so Hulk more happy than sad.

Good post but to quote Jack Nicholson’s Joker. “I’m glad your dead!” Yes I agree there was alot that we had not figured out or scratched the surface with but ultimately we have been playing a beta game. Something that was unfinished, while yes many of us had fun with it. Many people didn’t have fun. Me personally I enjoyed the game but the whole time even from the start it has felt as if something has been missing or as if the game was just not complete. So in the end I am welcoming Ultimate in with open arms and will have no regrets leaving vanilla behind.

You know, after watching it for myself, I thought for sure that the “Thanks for Playing” vanilla video would show people that the game isn’t over.

With Youtube, Community sites, Streams and other resources out there, technology travels faster these days, so I think MvC3 was broken open for the most part.

The #1 problem with Chun Li was no damage. We just discovered that she can do 700k damage solo (possibly tall characters only, I dunno) while building disgusting meter. This game was far from open. Jill, X-23, Super Skrull etc. were all secret top tiers. We just never found out.

Traveling =/= discovering

I think it might actually be hindering discovery because the “wait and see and copy” is so much easier to do.

What you talking about? There was an infinite or pseudo-infinite with gamma wave gamma charge up then down found. I’m not saying that’s it but that’s a pretty big find and more than what some other characters had discovered. I don’t think any character was fully tapped.

If there are dumber things to be found in mvc3 than what we have already, I’m not sure I want to see them

I will kind of miss DHC glitch though, I wish they could have embraced it as part of the game and just changed it so it only resets hitstun scaling but not damage scaling or something. Some of the setups were actually pretty fun and it gave more DHC options between characters that otherwise wouldn’t work as well together.

Yes, vanilla was basically a beta. But like a good book, I don’t like leaving things unread and then jumping to the sequel.
That’s really my only minor gripe.
