Remember you “quality snobs” out there or people that won’t watch a video unless it’s of a certain quality, you CAN raise the level of quality of these matches to 720/1080p out there, that is why it takes so long to upload, because I am making sure the Quality of the Videos is GOOD.
I think it is less of a problem of quality and more of a problem of a (lack of) direct feed.
Which in Mexico is very difficult to do, so some people have to understand that…Some videos are recorded with the MacBook, but others are not, and people have to understand as I have said before, That Mexico is not like the USA…Mexico is a much poorer country…
Put yourself back in the 1990’s and that’s how it is in Mexico…live/direct feed? What was that? Streaming? What is that?
In the 2002 Arcade cab for example-Direct Feed is nigh impossible…tried that for Battle 4 Mexico 2010, bought a Haupaugge just for that, but the Cabs are old school so they are wired shut, so you cannot hook anything up to it for a direct feed, so that rules having a Direct Feed for 2002 out of the question entirely. So the Haupaugge to me is absolutely useless, thus I sent it to Oscar THE ANSWER…because it is useless to me unless I have a HD Cab like you see a lot in the USA…but simply will rarely see in Mexico… But for anything that is on a console, I do believe there is a way to do a Direct Feed…but anything arcade in Mexico…unless it’s KOF13- you can probably forget about it…
Now on another note…** DG’s Travel Tip for the Day:**
Many people need to understand, this stuff you have become accustomed to as second nature in the USA is not readily accessible around the world…which I hate to say it, but as a segway,** I think it is a cultural thing.**
The USA has become spoiled and accustomed to living a certain way; I do believe people need to travel and leave their home country so they can see how others live, and then they come back home appreciating everything they have. Then you realize that it’s not about who has the fanciest car, the best looking house, or the shiniest new “Direct Feed” or something of that nature, it’s not about that at all.
All of this ties together into my whole philosophy on these types of things- That people have been too influenced by the glitz, glamour, SBO, GGPO, Live streams/direct feeds, Las Vegas hotels at EVO, Duelling the KOF, flashy and pretty SUPERFICIAL things that they fail to see THE BIG PICTURE, or that everything does not operate that way, everything does not go by those rules and there is more than meets the eye besides all the glitz, glamour etc!!! There are people that would KILL to have some of the things we North Americans take for granted!!! I know people right now that would kill to have what I have in my own house (HD TV, Plasma TV etc), so I know better than to take that for granted because I travel and see this FIRSTHAND.
There are players that would KILL to have the opportunity to play Japanese players like we do at EVO Cough Mexico for example and you see what happens when they get that opportunity- THEY TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF IT. (End of my Tip)
Now with that said, that is something we are considering in the future, a Direct Feed IF I do a tournament in Juarez in November, but my year is already full, so with the tournament in TJ, IF we can Direct Feed we will, otherwise it’s not gonna happen…same thing with Peru, Peru may be in a worse situation than Mexico, so again a direct feed may be out of the question. However, in Japan, it should be a lot easier to do such a thing since Japan is like us in that their internet speed is good, and they have just as good if not better technology.
So I know I went on a little rant, but again it is something I notice here in the USA, when I hear people from Latin American countries tell me “They don’t care about the quality of the videos” but here in the USA I got people saying “They won’t watch videos unless it’s stream quality.” Again where have we lost ourselves? Have we North Americans really become this spoiled by stream videos and become this materialistic??? (I think we have. A quick trip and living in a 2nd to 3rd world country on a consistent basis will show a lot of us just how materialistic we have become!)

Hey DG if you want to Direct Capture Video from an old school KOF cab (which is JAMMA) all you need since it’s STANDARD DEF NOT HD is this:
Video Capture Board (RGB to NTSC Converter)
^that’s Giby’s website
and this
Dazzle DVD Recorder Plus - Save and Share Video
It’s going to be around $350 with shipping but I’m sure all this people complaining about the video quality will be very happy to donate some money or maye just buy it for you… right???
Let me know if you have any questions about this.
About the Board: Good lookout! I am certainly going to look into that to see if that is something I can implement for Mexico vs. Peru 2011, if not I will look into it in the future…and certainly purchase it and put it to work in Mexico!!!
I have purchased the Dazzler DVD Recorder Plus before, I use to use it with my laptop before getting the MacBook, remember EVO 2009 when we were all there? Guess what I used? The Dazzler (Here is a sample video of that as proof: ) So I will look at it if I can use it on my MacBook, because I had to use VirtualDub and at the time it was lagging horrendously on the Computer.
Also you know how it is Oscar, all these people whining or complaining about the quality in simple terms aren’t going to do anything (IF YOU WANT SOMETHING DONE RIGHT, YOU GOTTA DO IT YOURSELF!). It’s like I said on Cyberfanatix, people need to be VERY CAREFUL about critiquing tournaments etc, esp. when they don’t have all the details. Anyone can critique and say “such and such should do that”, but they were not in the same situation and probably would not do the same thing (and not better) if they were in the same situation. Anyone can look at something in hindsight and say how they would do something better in the same situation… but not anyone can do the same thing if not something better in that situation WITHOUT ANYTHING TO LOOK AT IN HINDSIGHT!!! (This applies to how a tournament is ran or how a particular player performs in a match!!!) In other words, Theory Fighter is nice guys, but simply as you’ve clearly seen,** IT’S NOT APPLICABLE.**
Thus of course while I listen to what people say, as I have said BEFORE people, I really listen to people that have experience in what they are talking about, someone just throwing out random ideas while it may be nice, may simply be leading you astray.
Even worse, someone demanding that I “should listen to them” when they have “nothing to their resume” aka experience doing the same thing, is simply preposterous to me (This has happened here many times so to speak).
Another match Part I of Hummer vs. Kihara First to 7:

You guys should just play on PS2 setups with KOF2k2UM disc with Neo Geo Mode. That og2k2 is Arcade Perfect. This is even better because everyone could bring their own custom joysticks. Old school MVS cabs are… Old.
That was the original plan for the tournament in TJ, but Kula insists he can find a Arcade Cab in TJ, so well…I am going to see what he can do. Only way I think from here on out I’m going OG Arcade is if and only if I can have at least a 90% assurance that the joysticks and buttons will be in good to excellent shape and won’t go bad at all, because it is a hassle changing sticks to sanwa all the time to, that in itself takes 10 minutes to do that.

Next is Hummer vs. Esteban!
Thing of it is, why SHOULD we have to dumb down our standards? In the age of SF4 and MvC3, there’s a quality stream going up every day, there’s regional get-together in damn near every state at least once a week, there’s readily available tutorials, forums with hundreds of people active at all hours of the day, thousands of high quality videos right there on YouTube, not to mention its readily available for PS3 and 360 to play right in your own home. That’s why those communities are so big, and continue to grow; they provide players(old and new) with an almost limitless amount of quality resources in order to learn, play, and better their game.
Compare this to trying to find out about KoF13(and I know this from first hand experience from trying to get into the game), where if you don’t live in California you apparently need to go to another country/continent entirely to find quality competition, where half the fansites are in Spanish, tutorials and strategy guides aren’t readily abundant for newcomers, message boards aren’t nearly as active even compared to ASW titles, and whatever videos are available, they are usually of poorer quality than the typical Capcom/ASW video.
No offense to you Dark Geese; I respect what you do and your commitment to the KoF series. But its easy to see why KoF isn’t nearly as popular as some of its peers, because its resources simply don’t measure up. Fighting game players are consumers, and video games are a business. Why would consumers choose a game that gives you LESS OF EVERYTHING the other provides?
The sooner KoF13 hits PS3/360, the better this series popularity will be.
I see what you are saying and you make a valid point don’t get me wrong, it’s just again that when you travel a lot like me, you see many different cultures and cultural differences, and every time I come back to the USA I see some major glaring differences between the USA culture and that of the Mexican culture. This goes as far as work ethic and other things, there are a lot of things that have simply gotten away from the USA. The USA has become very materialistic, but though a lot of what you say sure will have a lot to do with KOF being popular in the USA such as lack of access etc, I do not see KOF becoming popular anytime soon because of this very thing I am talking about.
Or let me rephrase this, though KOF13 and other games will hit the PS3/XBOX360 soon, bottom line is this, if we ever want to become or hope to become something very strong and formidable as a World Power in KOF ala Mexico, people should really be playing some of the older games now if they do not have access to KOF13, if not, I fear the USA will always be behind Mexico and other countries in KOF, even if this newer genre of 13 players plays it hardcore and the game gets very popular here in the USA.
This is a cultural issue- and it goes to what I’ve discussed and what you’ve discussed: People have become too accustomed to having streams everyday in the USA with SF4 etc, that they have forgotten what things use to be like for a lot of the OGs.
It has become even worse now and days with “Generation GGPO”, there are some people that don’t see the need to travel because they “Think they can get everything off online.”
All of this is quite simply why I keep doing what I am doing, to show people that they no matter how near perfect things get with online and all this other stuff, that there is still a lot that people are missing if they do not leave their country, their own perspective/POV, and go to somewhere else!!
Take Hummer for example, he went from Japan where things are almost like they are here, to a region of Mexico where in the morning he had to “get accustomed to not having some things.” Instead of whining like a spoiled brat because of not having something, he got accustomed to it quickly, and he has told me He cannot wait to return to Mexico because he learned so many things that he did not see in Japan!!!
Last thing on this too, but The Judge has spoken about this, but many people put the Japanese on a pedestal, but they fail to realize they too can get to this “level” if they travel like the Japanese or surround themselves with top notch competition! But I don’t see this type of initiative here in the USA, I see a lot of laziness, people without the drive to do what it takes to get to a level, and this is why I again focus moreso on international and the Mexican scene than I do anything in the USA.
This is again a cultural difference!!! The more spoiled you become, the less you appreciate hard work/what got you in that position in the first place!
DG’s Travel Tip of the Day- If you all do not lower your standards, you won’t survive if you travel to a 2nd or 3rd world country, it will be obvious you are a spoiled brat from the USA, and you may offend some other countries due to the fact that you have become sooo “Westernized” you do not know how to deal with anything other than that! Also if you can’t lower your standards, you can forget about joining the military, as you learn this quickly in the military being stationed somewhere else that isn’t the USA or Japan or a “tourist location in Mexico.”
Here is Hummer vs. Esteban Part I:

The 2nd match with Hummer vs. Esteban:

Its not always “laziness”, though. Not everybody can be like you, DG, spend hundreds of dollars, time and money to travel to different countries and continents to play a video game. We know online isn’t perfect, it never will be, and can’t replicate the offline experience, but it can be a damn good place to hone your skills and learn the game when the resources available. Some of the best players in USA at various games come with thousands of online matches logged-in (Snake Eyez at HDR, K Mada/Latif at SSF4, SKD at Blazblue). A lot of the best SF4 players are new to the scene, and the community continues to thrive and grow. And why is that? Because the resources available to them. Like it or not, this isn’t 2000 anymore. Fighting games don’t live or die from arcade accessibility, but console(and yes, online play) accessibly. If the console release/online play is good, the community in the country will grow, more people will become interested in the scene, play more offline, resources will grow, and maybe they can learn enough to compete with Japan/Mexico. Until then, its gonna be just a small group of guys and gals hurdled together at Dream Cancel waiting for AI and A-Cho videos to be uploaded.
People don’t want to lower their standards because THEY DON’T HAVE to lower their standards. There’s a half a dozen other games out there to meet those standards. To put it another way, why would anyone try and get a handle on VHS when Blu-Ray is readily available at more places, at a cheaper price, is more user-friendly, and has much more content for your time and money?
Again believe me I understand this, but as I’ve said before, if there are no more pioneers and nothing left but “followers”, then history will just continue to repeat itself.
Yes of course people don’t have to settle for less in the USA, but for anyone that plays SNK hardcore, they either have to assimilate with everyone else, or go seek out what they seek like myself.
I also understand not everyone can do what I do.
But as I’ve said many other times, if there is a will there is a way. What I am doing has been a lifelong goal of mine, starting 10 years ago when I first enrolled in college, I told myself I was going to do what I am doing now, and MAKE A DIFFERENCE, and it took me about 4-5 years just to get in the position to do such a thing.
What does this boil down to again? Determination. For many they simply may not have a lot because of factors you said- they can go play the other games whenever they want to.
But for a hardcore SNK player like me, that simply isn’t an option. SF and some other games just aren’t to my taste, I know where my heart is and that is where it will always be.
Let me give you another situation:
There is an organizer in Torreon that is trying to start up a Street Fighter scene in Mexico, and is going through the same things you SNK players in the USA are going through. It is hard to change Mexico to a strictly SF nation, to a degree that may NEVER happen, they are born and bred on KOF, and this is why I also understand to a degree the USA will never truly be a SNK nation, it will always be Capcom/SF/Tekken etc at it’s heart, so for me I realize I need to focus my time and efforts elsewhere. But this guy is still moving on, even going to try to go to EVO this year, he is dedicated on starting a SF scene in Mexico, and I will help him, I understand what it is like!!!
My bottom line is this- If you really want something, you will find a way to make it happen. I am proof of that, Good things come to those that wait, but again that in itself may be a cultural thing.
The USA is an “instant gratification” country, they want things NOW, it’s all about the big titties, the overblown graphics, big explosions, the flash, pizazz, all that other stuff, so waiting is simply not something in the USA’s culture.
But again, good things come to those that wait…IF that is something you truly want.
And also life isn’t fair…SNKP hasn’t made the smartest decisions, it has made things harder for people to get into. But if they are hardcore, they will do what it takes!!!
For me I don’t mind it the way it is, I would much rather have someone dedicated “come under my wing” than “Dabblers” that waste my time and/or are looking for the next fix or thing to dabble into.
It’s basically like I’ve told people I take to Mexico from the USA…I toss them to the fire, or have them getting their ass handed to them in Mexico in KOF, then I ask them if they still want to continue or not.
I put them at a situation where I truly find out if they really want this or not.
Some people when they reach that point, they quit, and if they are going to quit good, let it be then, that way they won’t waste anymore of my time.
Same thing in this situation, you are either going to adapt to it, or assimilate with the others/quit…
The choice is yours…you deal with the hand you were dealt with and turn a negative into a positive or not.
**
Look at it like a scene out of the Matrix with me being Morpheus:**
You can take the Blue Pill and go back to your life the way it was, stay in your bubble, play the other games and never know anything about the “outside world.”
Or you can take the Red Pill and I can show you how far the rabbit hole goes…
Or they go get one of the other, better-financed, better-equipped, more user-friendly, primarily in English hands and play with that.
Again, I respect what you do. You have a passion, and you sought it out for the better part of a decade. Thing of it is, in 2011, that shouldn’t be the bar of entry for people to play a video game regularly. Its not impossible for a non-Capcom/Namco game to succeed here in USA. Just look at Blazblue. Its not as big as Capcom and Namco’s offerings, but it has a respectable size of audience, its played quite regularly across the nation, tons of tutorials, has a pretty active community here and on Dustloop and various other places, etc. And it all boils down to the fact that it has a 360/PS3 port with some damn good netcode. That’s where it all begins, and that’s where the growth of King of Fighters will begin, not challenging everybody to fly out to third-world countries and dedicate their life to an obscure video game.
tl;dr version: We need a good console port if the community is ever gonna grow and even hint at becoming this nation to be reckoned with around the world in KoF. That’s all I’m saying.
I agree with that completely what you are saying. But in the meantime, I recommend playing the older titles if not again you will have to catch up with years and years and years of other countries knowing the basics of the other KOFs (which will put the USA KOF13 community outside of Cali YEARS behind even the Mexican KOF13 community), which apply in KOF13.
