The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match Thread

that ryo sdm is a pretty bad oversight. or perhaps it was a way to make it not so good. anyways, its not fixed in neowave or even ps2’s 2k2, so i’m hoping they make the motion sane. they’ll probably make it blockable though, which is fine since with an easier motion it’ll give him more combo options.

I’m sorry if it’s been asked but how did SNK/Playmore get out of development hell (or lack the budget to make games on their own) when they released KOF 2001, 2002, SVC, Metal Slug 4 and 5 to making KOF 2003, XI, XII, Metal Slug 7, etc?

And what is the difference between this and Neo-Wave?

Neowave sucked.

SNK actually went bankrupt, got bought by a new company and became SNKP. Released a few shitty games and is finally getting back on track.

repped. :woot:

The SDM was supposed to be qcb+C, then A one frame after…they messed up the motion, making it qcf+C, A, of course it doesn’t work normally because Ryo has a qcf+C move. The reason why K’ can do his HSDM easily is because he has no qcb+C move.

Judging from the movelists released so far, motions are being standardized, though Nameless/K9999’s raging storm motions are intact still.

Well, after KOF 2k/Slug 3, SNK got bought out by a Pachinko company, and essentially went under. The former head of the company started up a new one, Playmore, bought up all the rights to the SNK characters, ended up hiring most of the same staff from SNK, and started putting out new games. But because they had no cash, team sizes were limited, they had to outsource some stuff, and they took to finishing stuff they had half done and throwing it out the door, like SvC.

Eventually they got back on their feet and started putting out the stuff you see nowadays. Not that I hated or even disliked Slug 4 or 5, or 2k1-2k3, or Matrimelee. But that’s the story.

Uber,

Thanks. I believe that is how I remember the story too…I’m just trying to figure out where they got the money and talent to magically be able to produce Slug 6, Slug 7, KOF 2003, KOF XI, XII and the 3D SNK games. Are they still owned by the Pachinko company?

No, because it’s not SNK, but Playmore with the rights of SNK. Playmore now has all of SNK’s IPs, and they known as SNK-Playmore or SNKP.

You can read more about it here:

Btw, doesn’t KOF2001 & 2002 made by Eolith, not Playmore? Or Eolith just published them?

awwwwww mannn… those pretzel motions give me fits! :arazz:

That’s the common known story… but it’s far from the truth, with everyone blaming Playmore. Playmore is actually just a decoy company made by the founder of SNK just before SNK went bankrupt, to recoup from their losses and have a chance later to take back the company, which they did, but in very bad shape, after the failures of 2000 and specially 2001. Also, 2k2 was also nearly completed, so they had to release it almost as it was. Also, they had to release games quick to recover some ground, that’s why, in their haste, they released bad games such as SvC Chaos without proper testing.

And speaking of pretzel motions… Geese IS in the game, so more RS luvin’ for me

Eolith was just the sponsor yeah

You could always do the shortcut if you have problems with that motion. hcb hcb df+P registers as a pretzel motion. :wgrin:

Two new vids:

@6:53 in the first vid, check out K’s setup for his HSDM. Fucking pimp.

Okay, so by the 1st video we’ve learned that you don’t have to be in Max Mode in order to use HSDM’s–it just takes takes 3 levels of meter…

–Mai has her Real Bout Special rekka…which will probably make her top-tier if it’s anything like in that game.

–A bunch of characters seem to have new moves. Other moves seem to be completely re-animated.

–What is up with K’s f+A against Kim? It had sort of a delayed hit effect.

I noticed that you don’t need Max mode to do HSDMs too. That’s a good move imo.

I wonder if the delay hit on K’s fwd+A is taken from the MI series. It acts the same way.

WTF. NO! Kyo has his 99 DM back! Shit…

I havn’t checked on the "UM"Series but basically 98UM has every character from 94-98 and 2002 has every character from 99-2002 right?

Did I just see my baby Hinako on the character select screen?

:lovin: :lovin: :lovin: :lovin: :lovin: :lovin: :lovin: :lovin: :lovin: :lovin:

98- covers 94-98
2002- covers 94-2002
with a couple of characters left out.

And damn did any of you see that Max Mode combo Iori does on Chang in the second vid?

Ah I see, so 02 will have every character from 98UM has…which basically means this game will have every old shcool KOF character with the exception of 03/XI. I just have to ask, how is the balance in 98UM…with so many characters isn’t there a chance it could be ruined?
