JIn Fuuha
looks like theres space for another 2, Kensou and i dont know what that big one is…
NGBC robert was a BIIIIG wtf for me…i hope he becomes playable/tourney legal
Those sprites look super imposed and I’m sure some of those guesses are off.
NESTS Bosses are obvious choices, as are Goenitz, Rugal and Geese. SvC characters wouldn’t surprise me. If they do put in SvC characters, SvC Terry as an ex version, please.
I think the one next to Robert in the pic looks more like Todo’s silhouette.
those are def. super imposed, but most of those seem like they fit perfectly(ex. the bosses and Geese). Why is there a panda behind Geese? I am curious as well about what the hell that giant thing is.
Does RB2 count? Rick and Franco?
k9999 is no match for my ralf/clark
and Rick was never to be seen or heard from again…
I didn’t post that because it’s not actual conformation on those people. Some of them actually do make sense though.
omg playable BAITANG
this is the only thing that can save the kof franchise, respect yo roots
Franco is a kickboxer so he doesn’t count.
fixed.
When you can react like this guy, then he is:

K9999 would probably be very top tier if his moon DM was changed to qcfx2. Also about the max combos…it’s not that he has them but because he could do them off many things. He’s also one of the few characters that actually benefits from going into maxmode because if you get hit by anything, he can turn that into a combo to super, not to mention the fear of the SDM as well as fear of being thrown with D which can also be comboed into super (although in this case, there are ways to guarantee tech the throws). Plus, his qcb+B has a lot of invincibility frames and no recovery, so it’s one of the hardest moves to fight against.
Could the guy on the far left be Syo Kusanagi?
Warning: Huge SNK Noob Complaint. Feel free to ignore this if needed.
As someone who isn’t an SNK fan but enjoys to dabble in them from time to time, the one fighting game I really enjoyed above the others was 2002. I’ll admit, I hated it at first due to the same complaints Shotokan Symphony described (graphics and music are meh). But after printing out the SRK wiki article and getting my friend Seasofcheese to play it with me (PS2 port, mind you), we really enjoyed it. We would play MOTW and quickly go back to 2002. We would play the other KOFs, including the ?legendary? 98 and go back to 2002. We weren’t SNK aficionados, we just thought the game engine of 2002 was extremely satisfying. We didn’t know anything about balance, we just knew it was fun.
However, there was something we noticed on the forums and across the net that really bothered us: 2002 was hated on simply because of its shortcomings on graphics and sound. For this reason, 98 got more popularity. Now, there were the arguments that 2002 was ?broken,? which while I completely disagree, I am not a top player to have enough weight in opinion. People stated EOLITH ruined KOF and that K9999 was a stain on KOF’s reputation. So it seems my friend and I would be playing this game alone, as most people were pumped for 98UM, XI, and the soon coming XII.
So now 2002UM is announced. A lot of people are hating on it and those who are excited for it. People are saying it is just an appetizer for XII, and once the new sequel arrives everyone will stop playing 2002UM. People even bring the argument than 98UM will always be better, even, hysterically, before playing 2002UM. Now, this isn’t new because fanboys are fanboys, myself included, and people love to hate. However, once screens and artwork comes out for the game, those naysayers stop hating. They start loving.
So my complaint is this ? are we so shallow to judge a game by how it looks? I admit I am excited for this game because I loved 2002 so much, but those that hated 2002 are now interested because of the impressive presentation. Is that all that matters? Don’t take my words as insulting jabs at the SNK community, because they aren’t. I just don’t understand how people can love a game they hated because of new graphics. Like imagine you hate convertibles. Only now the have a new SHINY convertible. Suddenly, you want it, even though you hate the very concept of convertibles. This just puzzles me.
So all I am asking is either for a concise answer to my question, specifically about KOF2002 being hated on and loved, or a link to something I missed in the canon of the SNK community. Thank you all and enjoy your daily does of HYPE for 2002UM.
Yes, people will play a game because it has new shiny polish. Everyone plays games for different reasons and for some people, presentation can be a breaking point.
For me at least, I never really got the opportunity to play 2002 in-depth, so a re-release that looks nicer and has new characters + new moves with re-balancing is really exciting, especially since I never really got to partake in the old game. It was the same way with 98UM, it’s like getting a fresh start.
re: silhouettes
WTF. “JIn Fuha” should be Geese doing Shinkuu Nage. Also, what would be the precedent for creating what is essentially an entirely new sprite (as opposed to Nameless, who’s mostly a modified K9999 sprite) for this big KoF fusion? Especially one with no history with KoF?
Krizalid, Igniz, Omega Rugal and the Zeroes should be a lock. That silhouette certainly fits Goenitz plus he was in one of the console versions of 2K2. Only a handful of characters perform Haoh Shohohken and all save Mr. Karate (either Takuma or Ryo) and Macro Rodriguez are in the game, and it’s not likely to be Marco, so it’s probably Mr. Karate. I dunno about NGBC RObert, though I can see it, especially if they use Mr. Karate (Ryo) from NGBC as well.
That silhouette certainly fits Geese doing Raising Storm, but the other also definitely looks like him doing Shinkuu Nage, so why would they put him twice? It could very well be Young Geese, since they already have a Neowave sprite for him - aside from Young Geese, are there any characters in 2K2UM missing who were in Neowave?
Oh, and I guess the guy on the left could be Kensou.
I dunno what that final blob in the middle is supposed to be.
Well, the main reason why I disliked 2k2 is because all of the characters are nerfed and boring compared to their 98 selves.
In 98, all of the characters had something abusable, but it wasn’t so over the top that it wasn’t very fun. I feel that in 2k2 all of the damage was nerfed, the characters were less interesting to play, and the BC mode felt really gimmicky, because a lot of the characters clearly sucked using BC mode.
