What’s up with the silhouettes at the end of the “Thank You For Playing” screen?
I know I’m not the only one who noticed them. Could those be unlockable/hidden characters?
One of those silhouettes looks like Zero (KOF '00).

Its the 2k rekkas.
can somebody tell me why k’9999 can’t be in this game
Eolith own him. SNK & Eolith don’t get along well anymore.
Also the Akira creators threatened to sue SNK if they used him again I think.
k9999 is in the game. he doesnt look like k9999 or have the name ‘k9999’ but he is in the game. if you used k9999 but dont use the new guy because they are not the same ‘character’ then you are a fanboy.
thank you for reading bye
mmm, perfect who needs his sprite anyway, as long as we have angel nothing else matters
i really want toned down playable loveable Igniz…just so i can do his SDM…that got me so hyped when 2k1 came out, in particular vid he did against K9999…i was “heh heh heh heh i want to crush people”
That wouldn’t explain why Angel and Foxy, both Eolith-designed characters, are in this game, though.
Foxy is entirely an SNK creation. Dunno about May Lee and Angel though.
To be honest, the only character designs I liked from 99 onwards was Jhun, Ash, and Duolon.
Remember the first time you saw 99 Kyo?
He looked really cool, right?
Most of the new characters didn’t seem cool to me.
I didnt know about this. now I do :wgrin:
people getting hype about this game is a surprise, when before everybody was like “ugh!? why we need 2k2um if we have 98um?”,lol
I’m sure getting hype about this game because I always considered 2k2 a garbage visually speaking, and it actually looks like a new game, unlike 98um who looks the same. This is obviously because with kof2k2 they really needed to change everything from art, music, backgrounds, interface because old ones really fucking sucked, again unlike 98um.
also more returning characters that didn’t make the cut in the original= awesome
The problem with Nameless is that he’s too stiff. He just stands there. Makes him look lame as hell.
I hate that his name is Nameless. Just call him K9999.

the K and Kyo win screens are nice!
Yeah, Angel and May Lee were both made by Eolith, so that’s why I don’t get that they would change K9999’s name to Nameless (which is about as generic as you can get). The design and moves, yes, but the name itself wasn’t a reference to Akira, so I really don’t see what the problem in keeping his old name is. Anyway, I wonder what his HSDM will be now…and why isn’t he on a team with Kula and Angel?
On another note, his inputs are most likely the same, but the moves have different hit boxes and ranges. His c. FK among other normals looks different as well.
Is me or the hits do more damage than KOF2002?
Looks like the energy bar is weaker than before.
Agreed, I don’t think K9999 is top tier at all, even with his 100% max mode combos (not all that impressive when you consider how many OTHER characters are capable of doing it). Most people just get fed up over random f+As and immediately say he’s broken. Even his HSDM (which does good cheese damage) can be rolled out of and punished pretty badly. His drill attacks do no chip damage, either, so his pressure style isn’t all that effective unless you can get the person to stop turtling. I find that his mixup game is pretty weak, too, he has that one slow and predictable flame overhead (QCB+D) and his stomp which comes out rather slow and is close only. His DPM+C is pretty useless because of how slow it is, and since he has a limited move set already, his options are a lot lower than one would think.
Well I doubt Emil was taking about f+A drills and pokes when he said he was top!
I was stating that in general because it’s what I have observed on GGPO - some people REALLY hate going up against K9999 and I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a scrubby K9999 player win by just doing a standing C into his f+A all day.
Emil is most likely referring to his max mode combos which, like I said, aren’t all that impressive considering quite a few characters have 100% combos and K9999’s are (not so) arguably harder to pull off. That’s why the first thing I mentioned was his max mode combos because I know a command normal is not going to make a character top tier, people just think it’s a cheap move and use it as a factor in determining his standing.
