The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match Thread

Nah that’s what you want me to, to derail the thread, then hope that some moderators come in and see the chaos. Hence my response, pretty obvious.

Anyway, not sure if people have been following this but the list of SBO qualifiers for 2k2UM, so far:

http://www.tougeki.com/main_player?id=kof2002

Big names there are Tatsuya, Kyappu, M’, Shoki, Oogosho, Kyokugendoa and Sukoa. Not sure if all qualification spots have been planned yet, since I haven’t heard anything of a planned Chinese qualifier.

Players I’m hoping to see added to the list are Xiaohai, Dakou, OZ, 777, ET, Muneji, Dune and Ganpi.

No Naoki on that list makes me a sad panda.

HI,

I’d like to clarify the new PS2 KOF 02UMT version is a mixed bag for what we have seen so far (we got the game for 2/3 days now in france)

first of all speaking of visual nothing differ the UM OF UMT onscreen except the 2010 copyright and the savefile name , everything is SAME as original PS2 kof02 UM which mean even graphics ! YES the game still as his horrible 3d background  (I presume that the 240P patch still works and I think people playing on old tv or console cab may give it a try because it work really great on original 02UM )

now gameplay wise here is poor translation (sorry my bad ^^!) of what have been discovered so far by one us

source

Finally, a detailed list of changes. Thanks.

I like the 3d backgrounds

this game needs to be “acquired ready”…already

I was more captivated with Mature in that one. The MAX2 trap at the end was out of this world

When you say the Down, Up charge, I’m assuming you mean his anti-air, right? His jumping grab has a decent amount of startup, but his anti-air is a bitch. Thing comes out a bit fast and only has a very small frame to hit him before he does it.

By the way, I’m sorry man but I think the backgrounds look good. I love 2D sprites and nice 2D backgrounds (One of the reasons I hate Street Fighter 4. Well, that and I just hate how everything looked). I don’t mind if someone uses 3D, as long as it doesn’t look bad. You have to admit, the backgrounds look pretty good even if they are 3D. Plus, it’s awesome how many cameos they have such as World Heroes, Kizune Encounter, Fatal Fury, Garou, Karnov’s Revenge (AKA Fighter’s History) and others.

Hi guys. First post.

I’ve been playing kof 2002um, but I’m having trouble doing those BC combos.

Whats the trick to it? Like when I use Kyo, I try comboing out of his df + D or F + b, but when I do that, the hit stun of the opponent disappears and my combo does connect.

Would appreciate any pointers you could give.

BC cancellin kyo’s df+D (2hit) is pretty much a corner combo. immedeately BC 2nd hit and then ssj d+C, then standing C, combo…

an og vanilla 2k2 combo s.C, df+D(2hit) XX BC XX, ssj d+C, s.A, hcbx2 A+C MAX 2. must have 30 percent life left.

as far as the overhead… i can maybe create a combo for you out of my mind. um, f+B XX BC XX, dash, d+A, df+D(1 hit), qcf+C, qcf+A, etc.

try it out i hope this helps you.

peace out cUDDY:cool:

these aren’t exactly practical (and it’s ridiculous to expect a first timer to get that first one down). for a noobie, i’d recommend getting this down as it works off both those setups and is super easy.

off f+B or df+D (2 hits): qcf+BC (activates max and immediately does C rekka out of it), qcf+A, qcf+C, qcf+A, qcf+C, qcf qcf+C

its not optimal, but should get you started.

that’s understandable, i can digit. my bad for being too advanced :stuck_out_tongue:

but at least its a refrence for other players on the thread.

Say, does Hinako’s BC infinite change her position on tiers by the way? I’m sure it wouldn’t affect her too badly, cause even without it, she does pretty well and has combos that do really good damage. Referring to the Tougeki version

@Freshie

No real trick, just practice. Here’s what you should know about BC combos.

Basically, you can cancel moves with others that normally wouldn’t cancel, which I’m sure you probably know. Specials can cancel into specials, however in 2002UM, it’s a bit different. Unlike 2k2, you can’t cancel into just anything. There are some moves they won’t allow you to cancel anymore in order to balance out the game.

Now, my recommendation is to practice the combos individually. Go to BC mode and practice the combos during BC mode. Also, practice your normal combos because that’s how you almost always end up into your BC combos. BC combos are just something you have to get use to though, cause all you do is press the button you need to (Usually there’s a set BC button or something you put yourself), then continue the inputs for your combos, nothing too bad man, just takes time. : )

Also, not all characters have use for BCs, so it’s kinda good news. One example would be May Lee. She already has all the options she really needs cause of her stance cancels and such. That’s just my opinion though, people might say otherwise and that’s fine.

P.S.

Listen to what blk_brotha says. Try to practice some of vanilla 2k2 stuff.

http://shoryuken.com/wiki/index.php/The_King_of_Fighters_2002

Go to the character names and click them for information. Some of this stuff still applies, but there are still improvements to each character in 2k2UM in comparison. Still, these are great to start out with if you’re not use to it.

I doubt it she’s quite the slag without it. Plus I have barely seen anyone actually pull it off in a match.

This is the truth, her losing her infinite doesn’t do anything to her because I have not seen anyone do it in a match, and I have talked to many in Mexico etc and they have told me the same, it is impractical basically.

In 2k2, not all moves can be cancelled into or out of. If anything, kof2k2UM gave even more moves cancel properties that usually didn’t have any.

First max combos you should be practicing are the easy ones like Vice close D, BC, run up close D, SDM. If you can’t do that one, you probably won’t be getting the others down. Once you get down the timing of the runups, the rest of the combos is reallly just memorization/muscle memory.

AWESOME!!! I can do this one almost every time! I did notice that if I did it too early I would get a regular QCF + C or a QCF + b. Not sure what decides this…

But this has given me something to work with. Thanks man!

Surely there is a character with some scrubby BC combos I can really abuse? Run ups seem to be one of the hardest things to pull off. I’m not much of a vice man, but i tried pulling this off with Kyo and it was hard to be consistent. I’ll give it a go…

I’ve got a bit of practice to do first before I can pull this off :shake:

Cool link. Thanks for the tip.

The reason why many people struggle with the run up max combos is because they check to see if their activation actually activated, before starting their run. Instead, just do it in a continuous motion.

Also join #snkplaymore on EFNET for kof2k2 matchmaking. I’m on there everyday.

Freshie you’ve got a lot with that what Emil stated like Kula, Terry, Vice, and many more, just find someone with a 2 hit normal, then activate after it hits run in use the normal again combo into super.

is yuri slash still pretty useful even with the extended recovery?

The move is extremely useful, just hope it doesn’t get blocked or space it max distance. It’s especially useful if you know their attack string has gaps, since it’s invincible and will counterwire.

Meet your new god, OZ has just qualified for 2k2UM
