Well minimum wage was $5.15 back then. Plus since there’s a big difference between child labor laws of a 15 year old and a 16 or 17 year old, I wasn’t allowed to work over 20 hours a week nor work pass 8pm. And for some strange reason McDonalds had a weird policy that said I wasn’t allowed to go inside the refrigerator because of my age. WTF. Luckily I left there in less than a year only to get a harder, less paying job at another fast food joint.
I know my first job was at a Blockbuster Video back in 1996 and my salary was $5.35 and hour and I usually worked four hours six days a week. Back then it was cool since I was 18 but now, that’s struggle money right there.
Man…I wish Blockbuster came out with the streaming service first. Being a 90s kid, what I wouldn’t give to have that Blue & yellow ticket stub on the screen instead of red…
Working for Blockbuster in the 90’s could be a really good thing. Think about all the super nintendo/genesis/etc etc games you could probably get for cheap. And you would probably have first crack at them.
Actually, it really depended on the management, I think. At the store I was at we couldn’t even get first crack at the new movies or games. We had to wait two months after they came out. We didn’t get and real discounts on movies and games they were selling. The only good thing is that we had 3 free rentals a week.
I remember when MK2 was 1st released it took WEEKS to be able to get a rental copy of that…ahh the good days,we was calling blockbuster so many times wondering did they have it in lol
Oh so that was you lil’ nigga?!?!? LMAO!! I sort of miss those days. The main reason I worked there is that I am a movie buff and at least half the movies in BB i had some type of info on. Customers use to love me. That also showed me that no matter how nice and friendly you are, you still didn’t get the hours you wanted. SMH!!!
I kinda miss renting games. It was one of my favorite parts about weekends as a kid. I always got to play some new awesome game. Sometimes they were bad. Sometimes they were better than thought they would be like psi-ops: the mindgate conspiracy. I haven’t seen a blockbuster or Hollywood video in years tbh
Yeah it was. LOL!! Another thing about this thread is that in the past couple of weeks I haven’t been going to fast food joints like that anymore. LOL!!! I use to know people that worked in fast food establishments back in the day and they use to tell me a whole lot of things. I remember this one guy telling me what they use to do to ignorant, disrepectful customers food. I immediately put my Quarter Pounder down. LMAO!!!
