Today’s music is courtesy from Carsten Daerr Trio, they are from germany iirc.
The 1st time that i heard them was on a jazz festival on Honduras back in 2005.

Finally listened to two of Sixuns albums. I really really liked Lunatic Taxi but Nomads Land didn’t have the same effect on me. There was a few tracks on Nomad Land that I liked, but Lunatic Taxi was great. I’ll listen to more of their albums when I get the chance.

As for my rec this week, it’s the Italian Prog Rock band Premiata Forneria Marconi. I just stumbled on them a few days and gave a listen to their first album Storia di un minuto and I was super super impressed by it. The album clocks in at 35 minutes long and goes by fast. No song ever overstays it’s welcome and the composition of almost every song left me with a smile on my face.

Here’s the closing track off the album:

I am leaving here one of my newest additions to my collection

BTW, i was curious to know what do you people consider that defines a music (could be rock, metal, hip hop, etc) as progressive.

Taking it back to 1992.

Need to catch up in this thread soon…

Anybody listened to Chris Letchford’s new jazz-ish record? I mean, he’s a great player, but it had this sort of cheesiness to it, at least from what I’ve heard.

His main band, Scale the Summit, may or may not be of interest to those of you in this thread.

Do you mean Lightbox?

Yes.

I’m going to listen to the suggestions in here that I haven’t had a chance to yet, but have you listened to Palabre by Sixun? It’s probably my favorite of theirs - closely followed by the live album Live a la Cigale. I could see why you may not have liked Nomad’s Land. It’s a little commercial for Sixun. Lunatic Taxi is one of the more popular CDs of theirs. Palabre is probably closer to Nomad’s Land, but it’s more jazzier. It’s got some fusion tunes on it.

@Hecatom‌

Out of the Marcus CDs you have, Renaissance is probably his best studio work I’d say in almost 20 years. Marcus seemed to get sucked into a really big commercial phase himself right around M2 and Silver Rain. I think he did win a grammy or something for M2 but something about that CD seems so bland to me. You’re missing his best live CD - Tutu Revisited (2011). He recorded Renaissance with the majority of that band, and they play the music from the Miles Davis 80’s album Tutu. It’s by far the most amazing live CD he’s done IMO.

If you can, get the studio albums The Sun Don’t Lie and Tales. The Sun Don’t Lie is classic Marcus Miller. I like Tales because he doesn’t play his Fender on every song. It’s probably the only CD where he plays multiple brands of basses.

I think that was alright, though i feel that i need to give it some other listening to form an opinion about it, i was listening while working so i didn’t pay full attention to it.

I am gonna see if i can find them and listen them.

Edit

What i am currently listening

OK so Palabre was my favorite sixun album until today. However…L’eau de la and Nouvelle Vague…one word to describe how good they are?

So a couple of weeks ago I caught Chick Corea on his Solo Piano tour. Good stuff. At one point, he asked for another piano player to come up and improvise with him. The guy that went up was good enough that after they finished the improv, Chick said "Usually I’ll ask another piano player to come up, but I think I’ll leave it at that."
Overall a great show.

Thread needed a bump.

I haven’t gotten anything new in a while. It’s been almost 4 months lol.

Has anyone heard of the Swedish pop band Dirty Loops? Youtube them, it’ll be worth it! It’s pop but the musicians are definitely fusion influenced.

I did not know we had this thread. I got so much to post
