My music is progressive
That Mörglbl Trio sounds interesting Hecatom. Are they primarily just bass/guitar/drums? Can you recommend a solid album by them I should check out?
Yes, Mörglbl Trio is entirely bass guitar and drums, ti only have 2 albums of 4 (i think that the other 2 are EP’s but i am not sure), Jäzz For The Deaf and Brutal Romance.
I think that both are good additions for any jazz or metal enthusiast. Imo they make make a good blend of both genres with a good balance between both

I need to find one of the 500 original records the band handmade themselves. Like STAT.

The music nerd side of me always wishes I listened to more Jazz, but I rarely do. This was from an album I still spin from time to time tho
[/quote]*I just got into Uehara last year, absolutely fantastic. *
*Thanks for the Sixun rec, I’m thoroughly enjoying checking out some of their live performances. I haven’t gotten around to listening to their studio work, but I will, very soon.
As for my first contribution for this thread, I’m recommending Nils Petter Molvaer lastest album entitled Switch. I rec’d it to Hecatom before in the lounge, and I’m doing it again in here. It’s a very interesting record that I enjoy.
Here’s a really really good live performance of Petter performing with Triloks Gurtus Quartet. They’re songs they’re performing is off of Triloks 2013 album Spellbound, which I also fully recommend.
I friend of mine suggested me recently to hear some work of Olafur Arnalds and i have to say that i am impressed so far, i have only listened 1 album, For Now I Am Winter (2013), but if this album is representative of his other stuff i wouldn’t doubt on dropping some money on the rest of his discography.
His music is a blend of Neo-classic, electronic, ambient and experimental.
After ivenstigating a little about him, it seems that he has worked with some hardcore/metal bands in the past as a drummer (though is not really relevant for his current work )

I will definitely check out the last few suggestions. I got into trilok gurtu earlier this year after picking up 21 Spices. Indian fusion with a backing big band? Yes please. Easily the best CD I’ve gotten in 2014.
That Olafur dude is dope. Can’t believe I never heard of him before. Anyone here into Tim Hecker or Oneohtrix Point Never?

The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 8th tracks are the ones I like. 2nd one is amazing. I found this band on Sir Millard Mulch’s blog or something.
music starts at 33s

Ok, so now i will leave one of those weird bands that i like to hear from time to time when i feel about hearing experimental stuff.
Dün is a french band that was active between 1979 and 1981m they only had one album, Eros published on 1981.
Now lucky for those who like experimental music the album was reissued on 2000 and included early versions of some of the songs on the album.
They are labeled as progressive rock but in some way i feel that it falls short since they have a really eclectic sound that goes from experimental jazz to zeuhl, rock, etc
They liked to use xilos, vibras, flutes and some self made instruments to add to their sound.

I am not sure if you will like it, but i think that it could be interesting to listen at least once.
@DarkGeneral have you checked out some more Sixun stuff?
Thread needed a bump, I’ve slacked a little on my weekly post.
Couple of quick hits for you guys. Check out Uncle Moe’s Space Ranch if you don’t have it already. It’s pretty good all the way through, and it’s an all star lineup. Definitely an oldie but goodie.
Also, check out Transfusion by Art “Spike” Schloemer. Derek Sherinian’s compositions for a keyboardist are pretty crazy - and Schloemer is somewhere not as far off on the deep end He’s easily a mix between Sherinian, Joe Zawinul and Scott Kinsey. Transfusion is perfect all the way through for a fusion lover, another all star supporting cast.
Last but not least check out almost anything by bassist Yiorgos Fakanas. He’s a bass player with composition skills that rival most famous pianists IMO. Some of his compositions have heads that last 4-5 minutes without a solo even being played with numerous twists and turns. The guy is a monster player. Either the CDs Domino or Interspirit which also features monster bassist Anthony Jackson (Bassist who played on the O’Jays “For The Love of Money” and inventor of the 6 string bass). Both are very strong.
Check out this monster composition. Just sick. Again, from a bassist. Hard to find guys who write at this level these days…

please don’t mistake me for someone with lots of familiarity with Metheny, I only ever heard this album but it was great!
Yeah. Metheny is great. The We Live Here album is pretty good. If you like that album @pherai check out Speaking of Now. Very intense IMO.
*When it comes to music, listening or playing wise, I’ve been slackin on my mackin. I haven’t really pushed stuff to aside so that I could fully immerse myself in a few albums. I’ve sat down and listened to some live recordings but still have yet to listen to their studio releases.
I can make a quick rec though, Roy Campbell Jr’s Pyramid Trio output is really good. I listened to some of his non-trio stuff and I liked it a fair bit. But his trio work knocked me on my bum when I was going through it. Here’s a track off of the Pyramid Trio album Ethnic Brew and Stew.
I love when threads like this come around. Here’s my contribution, the band The New Deal.

Any of these albums are good if you dig their music: http://www.amazon.com/The-New-Deal/e/B000APOEHU/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_2?qid=1407950932&sr=1-2 Their live recordings are pretty awesome too. And if you ever get a chance to catch them live spring for it. It’s such an amazing high energy atmosphere that they create.
@Hecatom
Which Marcus miller CDs do you have?
That video is hot!
I have 4 so far, M² (2001) , Silver Rain (2005), Marcus (2008), A Night in Monte-Carlo (2010) and Renaissance (2012)
I want to get more of his older stuff but i have not found much of it around here
