The Jazz/Progressive Music Thread

Anyone hear the new Steven Wilson record?

Hand.Cannot.Erase.

I was gonna listen tomorrow.

So is this thread just for Jazz or is progressive rock (like Mars Volta) okay to post?

Been listening to a ton of Wes Montgomery lately.

Jazz, Progressive rock, zeuhl, fusion, etc
It could also include Progressive metal, but we have the metal thread for that

You can talk about mars volta if you like

It does include ambient music too right?

(Not that Yellow Calx is, I was just coving to it right now)

Where else on SRK can we all discuss Oneohtrix Point Never and such?

I don’t know how I never did listen to Ella Fitzgerald. I practically did myself a great disservice.

Cool, I’ve been listening to a lot of Mars Volta a lot lately. De Loused Comatorium and Frances the Mute have been on heavy rotation. I guess I just love the setup of their songs. It always feels like they are having a jam session which is cool.

So Madlib has a collab album with Ivan Conti where they just do covers of some jazz

Paul Hardcastle all day. One of my favorite modern jazz musicians. Such an ethereal, atmospheric sound.

Yes

I need more of this. Any albums you recommend?

Also, what do you guys have that’s new and good?

Check out Gary Willis’ “Larger Than Life”. You WILL NOT regret it. Also, Simon Phillips’ “Protocol III”. Great fusion.

@kaz
Sorry for replaying so late.

I will say that all his work is highly recomended if you like Latin Jazz, after all, Luis Salinas is considered one if not the best latin jazz guitarrist.
If i had to choose i will say that you should try Salinas y amigos en España, Salinas, Sin Tiempo and his Live albums like En vivo en el Roseda, Luis Salinas En Vivo - Día 1, Día 2 and Día3.

He is one of the artists that i had the chance to see live in a private playing that was held the day after his concert in my country, he is a friend one of my teachers from the university were i studied, he knew that i am a jazz fan so he invited me and another friend to it without charging us.
