He lost his ability to cancel the second hit of his standing short. While this doesn’t hurt his main zoning fireball?fireball?uppercut?when?necessary game, it standing short was still one of his best pokes. St. short has more range and less start up than cr. forward, so it’s easier to use in block strings. For example, O. Sagat’s jump ins didn’t have to be nearly as deep as R. Sagat’s if he wanted to combo into Tiger Shot.
Tiger shots also do a little less stun. I think j. roundhouse, st. short, tigershot might have actually stunned, or at least put you really close to being stunned in ST.
I’m still not sure what tier I’d put Sagat into, but I just wanted to point out that Sagat did get other nerfs.
Never heard that one before, but yeah, he has a beefy uppercut, it just lacks invincibility. It is kind of satisfying when you get all the hits in in a multi hit Tiger Uppercut. I just love landing HP TU in CVS2.
I don’y know why we’re even talking about it it’s like having a discussion about whether the earth exists. From where I stand honda does a little better now that he has jab hb but he’s still mid tier.
Someone indulge him.
Preach!, I would have never made it to winners semis if I had to play sirlin but I had the devil’s luck and didn’t have to…until he raped me in semis of course (which by the way I attribute to my nervousness.)
Look at pool3…I feel bad my boy axel kelly had to go through that hell while I basically coasted in comparison.
IMO sagat has better matchups then shotos (not by much though) but wtf since when does ryu lose to geif? he got marginally better in comparison to ryu who was already one of the better characters who got a single buff better then all of what geif got combined. Gat beats blanka too I don’t know why so many gat players don’t think so he has jlk which although very effective against him is all blanka has in the matchup to keep his head above water.
J.lk is all blanka has in that matchup? Riiight. I’d play you and show you some other stuff he has in that matchup but you make me too uncomfortable.
I think sagat is good (have been playing him a bunch lately messing around) but he’s not as good as ryu. That ‘little’ bit of extra fb recovery matters IMO. He can do more damage off a crossup but he can’t make his crossup ambiguous really so it’s pretty easy to see coming.
That’s an over exaggeration and you know it. And that hitbox extension is nothing compared to N.Sagat’s hitbox extension.
But the original point still stands. Match-up wise Sagat and Ryu are extremely similar.
Overall though I definitely see some hostility towards Sagat. It’s like people don’t even want to entertain the idea that he is a good character.
I guess it’s because he was so silly and dominant with a mindless tactic due to his recovery frames as O.Sagat on his shots, but damn. Give the nigga a chance. Don’t just write him off. He is still a zoning beast just a DIFFERENT kind of zoning beast. And his offense is solid as well.
Zoo: It’s widely accepted that Gief has slight advantage on Ryu.
For the record Sagat has ONE frame more of recovery on his shots. But he executes them faster and they travel faster. Seems like a solid balance to me.
And once again I repeat that going by his match-ups he really does need to be tied with Ryu.
IMHO, Blanka has to get pretty crafty to win this match up. I am not saying Sagat has any substantial advantage, but Blanka has to work a bit harder.
Decoy and BTCans (SGx10) are agile enough with Blanka to pull out a ‘W’ constantly, but they are above the norm in ability. I feel most Blanka’s will lose to most Sagats on the same skill level.
This. Perhaps I worded it poorly but my point was blanka is more dependent on jumps then other characters vs gat considering how cleanly they can stuff his dp’s and how easy it is to punish his whiffed fb’s it doesn’t even have to be on reaction. IMO in low-mid level play blanka has a slight advantage but at high level play a gat with great anticipation skills will has the slight upper hand.
I disagree that Rog is still #1 (not counting Akuma). Him losing his safe jab headbutt alone is enough to do that (remember all he got in HDR was nerfs). Quite honestly, I’d put Ryu at top.
I think Sim/Vega/Rog/Ryu and maybe Sagat are so close now that it could be a coin flip. Just by going from what I’ve seen at this year’s Evo and Devastation events though, I’d still say Ryu.
