The inevitable tier thread

^^^^^^^^^^^ I think all six of those characters are very powerfull. A heavy amount of reaspect should be given to each.

I wouldn’t send much time debating where they exactly fall on a teir list. Their all pretty damn good. If anybody knows what they are doing with either of them, your in for a tought fight.

Good point.

I’ve been putting a bit of time into N. Sagat in ST lately, so moving from that to HDR, the hitboxes on his arms during TS feel luxuriously short.

Good games last night on GGPO. You certainly know what you’re doing with N.Sagat. We had a long set, so no biggie that it eventually froze. (I am Iboonihs on GGPO).

I think the recent rankings of the N.Characters of ST are still largely applicable. The point rankings should be smaller in gaps though. What we need is an updated chart put together by HDR’s top players.

I think the match-up points will have smaller gaps overall, which is good.

Dhalsim 27
Boxer 19
Claw 18
Ryu 15
Chun-Li 13.5
Guile 9
DeeJay 5
Dictator -5
E.Honda -5.5
Sagat -5.5
Ken ** -7.5**
Fei-Long -7.5
Zangief -16
Blanka -18.5
Cammy -18.5
T.Hawk -22.5

Hey, yeah, good games. I only picked N. Sagat up a short while ago (maybe two weeks), but I’ve been having quite a bit of fun with him. I still greatly under-estimate just how far those vulnerable hitboxes reach though, and get kicked in the fist for it frequently.

Yeah at first I was kind of surprised at how much I reached those long arms, with something like a j.punch. I think in HDR I tend to go for j.m/hk more on tiger shots.

does anybody here have an idea on where chun li/guile stand in terms of the other characters?(tiers) just asking out of curiosity…

Chun was considered pretty high tier before, and she’s gone down a little. She’s still good, but not as great as she once was. No more crossup neckbreaker, way harder to do neutral jump hk out of a crouch, super was nerfed…

Guile has done nothing but gotten better. He’s not top tier but I think he’s high tier. He was already solid and now he has an awesome hk flashkick and an overhead. Easy super is also easier to just throw out on reaction.

Top Tier:

Dhalsim
Boxer
Claw
Ryu

High Tier:

Chun-Li
Guile
DeeJay
Dictator

Mid Tier:

E.Honda
Sagat
Ken

Low Tier:

Fei-Long
Zangief
Blanka

Bottom Tier

Cammy
T.Hawk

Pretty much put’s it all into perspective.

Ryu top?

:rofl::rofl:

Yeah, a good ryu who know’s how to space can kill a large number of the cast. Everything actually seem’s pretty consistent and reasonable, no real issues with the tier list.

The only person Ryu truly dominates is Honda. The rest of his fights can really go either way. One change isn’t enough to sky rocket his tier.

He shits over Fei and he beats blanka, hawk and cammy.

Fei vs. Ryu is not Honda vs. Ryu. Ryu shits all over Honda. You should see Sirlin fight DGV. His Ryu has a hard time against him.

Ryu doesn’t shit on Hawk, take it from me. Cammy is the same way.

You say Ryu shits on those people, yet he was only mid tier, and these characters were arguably worse in that game. Now that they have some answer to fireballs, how can you say Ryu destroys them?

i dont agree with this at all, as you know. have you been playing DGV!!! maybe im in no position to judge these kinds of things, but im fairly proficient with ryu…and good fei players give me one hell of a hard time. once hes in, its very hard to get out of the corner. you always say zoning, but zoning only works when you guess correctly. one wrong guess, and its the corner for ryu, and fei just has to do his thing and pick apart ryu.

I don’t think top 1/3rd is mid-tier

Sim/Vega/Boxer/O. Sagat
Ryu/Chun/Dic

In VST, I’m almost certain he was mid. That’s what I was refering too.

Dude, I played DGV yesterday and he beat me good. Here are some fun facts:

-CW’s don’t do shit because of the worst recovery and start-up
-Any attempt to CW past a projectile can be swept
-Rekka range helps but will still only trade agaisnt a haduken
-LW CW only works at close range but even if it hits, ryu can still SRK or throw due to the lack of a combo option’s after a CW
-Fei’s jump-in’s can be stuffed by most of Ryu’s standing normals

For the record, I probably only beat him 6 times out of our enitre session with 1 or 2 perfects while he beat me around 40+ times with 3 perfects and a near double perfect 1 match. The matches were mostly competitve and usually to 3 rounds, so granted it wasn’t a complete domination but certainly not to the case where it could go"either way". Ryu certainly has the big advantage for this match, it isn’t impossible but it is very steep into ryu’s favor.

The list I was using referred to VST. No way does being arguably top 5 qualify as mid-tier (other than where the roster is <10). Other than R. Sagat, the tiers haven’t changed in HDR. If anything Ryu has it easier since all his bad matchups got fixed slightly

no more:

Balrog auto-pilot headbutt/low rush shenanigans
Dhalsim lk drill for free on seeing hadou animation
Vega walldive retardation

Only matchup that got “worse” for him was Dictator with the corner escaping DR.

Earlier today I was going around in ranked as Fei Long to see what the big fuss was about him. I never use Fei and I think I went around 22-5 by the time I stopped. Here’s what I noticed.

  • Really good players get caught A LOT by fierce Rekka’s.
  • Predicting a fireball and doing a short CW will always catch your opponent. Never once was a Ryu or Ken able to counter me if I predicted their fireball. Its the same concept with Honda’s jab Headbutt.
  • I now understand how annoying Bison can be if he’s not in that corner. :stuck_out_tongue:
