The inevitable tier thread

Pretty much wrong on everything. Not only are you fooling yourself if you think everyone else is that close together that their indistinguishable in a tier list, but Akuma is obviously the number 1 top character (and not banned yet) and fei is shit tier. And thats coming from someone who plays fei as a back up and semi mained him in ST.

You dont use Fei right then.
:wasted:
Fei is my main until i get a stick.

Ok seriously.

Fei is bad.

But Chickenwings come out so cleanly nowdays.
Gone are the ST days and nites on GGPO when i’d try it and end up with a regular jump kick to thin-air.

Here’s why Fei is not only bad, but even WORSE than he is in ST:

  1. Rekka Punches.
  • Cool! They’re easier to do, and they go farther than before! Totally better, right? Wrong. To use Rekkas properly, you need to be able to do Rekkas in such a way that if they’re blocked, you’re as far away as possible from your opponent. The new Rekkas make it impossible to leave as much space after blocked Rekkas than you could in ST. So, for their main use - block strings and mixups games - they’re worse.

Then, throw in the fact that farther range Rekkas do WHAT for Fei Long? …Nothing, really? Yeah. Rekkas are worse.

  1. Flame Kick.

So the Short Flame Kick is worse - no big deal. Less super meter gained? Also, not a huge deal. Flame Kick now juggles, and Fei has a juggle limit of four instead of most characters’ three.

…The only problem is, just how often do you land Chicken Wing into Flame Kicks - the only real way to take advantage of this buff? Probably not often, especially with the nerf on Chicken Wing’s first hit, which is a substantial nerf in its ability to hit people. Therefore, the big aspect of Fei’s game that was meant to keep him competitive - the Chicken Wing/Flame Kick juggle - requires you to really catch your opponent with their pants down. Good luck landing this with consistency on a good player.

  1. Super

It travels farther, but who cares? When did you use it from far away, anyways? If you watch top Fei players, they almost exclusively use this super when doing their blocked Rekka strings, i.e when they’re right up in their opponent’s face, meaning that the old, shorter distanced super wouldn’t have missed all the hits any damn way. It was a nice try, but there’s not really another good way of using the super, so the buff doesn’t really do anything for Fei.

Other than that, you can hit him out of it at the end, and it takes longer to get the super, so I’d say that the super is worse overall.

  1. Chicken Wing.

…What exactly is better about this? This has to be one of the top five biggest nerfs in the game. First of all, let’s look at the buffs: Cool, the Lk Version goes through fireballs! Rad! Here’s why that sucks: If you use it to go through fireballs from a fullscreen, or even halfscreen away, your opponent will have recovered in time to just walk up and sweep you while you land - made much easier by the extra recovery time. So, the only place you can really utilize that is if you’re very close to your opponent. And, if you’re close enough to your opponent to actually connect the Chicken Wing, why not punish a fireball attempt by doing J.Hk / S.Hp xx Rekka x3? It does more damage and it knocks down. So, this ‘buff’ is pretty much useless.

Now, we can look at all the stuff that was actually made worse about it: Less meter build, smaller hitbox on the first hit, and super long recovery time make it not only impossible to combo things afterwards, but if you don’t land the last hit of the attack (a more plausible scenario than you might think), it’s actually UNSAFE ON HIT, especially against characters with command throws…as if he needed another disadvantage against E. Honda, right?

But hey! It comes out really smoothly, right?

  1. Conclusion

Fei was already low tier in ST. Sure, he was at the TOP of low tier, but he was still one of the worst characters in the game. So, what did they do for him? They made him easier to use, but they made him a whole shitload worse.

You want a good Fei? Here’s a good Fei:

  1. Give him O.Fei’s jumping normals. Those normals are fucking buff, and a non-fireball character should be the one with rad normals.

  2. Don’t touch his Rekka - just make the motion easier.

  3. You wanna juggle shit with Chicken Wing? Make it knock down and initiate a juggle state. That way, you don’t have to have 5 “Free SPD” recovery frames and a nerfed first hit. Leave the Chicken Wing the way it was before - just make the motion easier and make it knock down!

  4. I like what was done with the Flame Kicks, if only it was easier to actually use them for juggles. This is why I like my idea for the Chicken Wing.

  5. I also like what they did with the super, even though it’s technically worse. It’s fine, but it’s a slap in the face when everything else is worse, too.

Now THAT’S a good Fei. Old blocked Rekka potential, useful Chicken Wing without being broke as hell, and jumping normals that don’t suck ass. I just balanced Fei Long without giving him a dizzy combo or the ability to 2-in-1 off a low. I’m a fucking genius.

But, sorry dude. Fei sucked in ST, and he’s even worse in STHD. Peace

Firstly what do you mean “give him Old Fei’s normals”?
You mean the power is weaker now, or the priority?

Secondly, Fei was built in the image of Bruce and Jeet Kune Do.
He’s not supposed to win based off what the others are winning with.
His moves aren’t supposed to make sense.

Reading into that tier nonsense is a waste of time…unless its Shitkuma.

I mean damn, if Bruce Lee and Mike Tyson were in the same ring in their prime, do you think ANYONE would have given him a chance to beat Iron Mike?
No. But Bruce would prolly have beaten the crap out of him.

Lastly, end the Rekka on the jab motions…that pushes him away from a blocking opponent.

I also like to add that the other 4 worst in the game recieved nothing but buffs yet Fei Long gets shafted.

Bruce lee was an actor.

He couldn’t fight.

This is so dumb.

Are you being sarcastic?
:wasted:

So wait, just because a character is based on someone means that they have to be 100% like them? I had no idea mike tyson grabbed someone with one arm and started headbutting them in a match. Or that he glided across the ground everytime he held back for two seconds and hit punch or kick.

fei sucks. stop fooling yourself. they took away the only 2 things he had going for him: comboing off a chicken wing, and a safe anti air.

No, Hollyfield did the headbutting. Tyson made his own ear-biting move.

Oh is that right?
Do you mind if i take down your gamertag?
I wanna play you if i ever see you online.
We’ll see who’s foolin around.

If you’re trying to defend a character’s placement in the top tier, you can’t defend his inadequacies by saying “they’re not supposed to make sense.” That’s just dumb.

I mean the priority is much, much, much better. Go to classic mode and pick O.Fei, then turn the hitbox mode on. It’s awesome.

Yeah, sure, that’s cool. It doesn’t refute any of my points. No matter who he was based on, what you think of tiers, or how good Mike Tyson would be in Street Fighter, the point is that Fei got worse.

Yes, I know. I play a lot of Fei Long, actually, which is why I’m able to make this argument in the first place. What I’m saying is that ST Fei’s Rekka strings allow him to end even farther away from the opponent than HD Fei, while still leaving him in range. This allowed him to end blocked Rekka strings outside of some characters’ sweep range that HD Fei simply can’t. That’s why they’re worse.

EDIT: And good luck taking on Gridman, he’s no joke.

I got the feelin he was.
I hate to be the better one in a back and forth of say 25-50 matches.

Actually thats startin to piss me off about the online matches.
There’s just not enough good comp to go around.

Just because Fei is in a lower tier doesn’t mean you can’t win matches with him

Also just because you can win maches with lower tier characters doesn’t mean tiers don’t exist

Tiers don’t work that way, especially in HDR where the tiers are very compressed

Maybe if you went to a game like MvC2 or Brawl you’d see a huge divide between tiers, but that doesn’t mean that tiers don’t exist in HDR, it just means the tiers are closer together and the difference between characters is way less

Actually, Fei is a strange anomaly to me, because he was low tier in ST, and he’s worse in HD. So, either Fei was better in ST than everyone previously thought, or the ‘compressed tiers’ of HD Remix don’t really apply to Fei Long.

Personally, I’m leaning towards the idea that he was just better in ST than people realized.

Go ahead. I was just on about 20 minutes ago. Ill try to get on HDR later before I go to a poker game or if not ill try and be on at night.

Want me to fei vs fei or you dont care who i pick?

Please record and use Honda.

Ill actually most likely use hawk or gief. If i wanted to be funny Id use honda
