have you read Sirlin’s Fei article and his reasons behind the chicken wing?
Yeah, I read it and understand. I agree being able to combo into flame kick after landing one would be ridiculous and easy. But the old chicken wing into close fierce into rekkas while devastating isn’t something easy to get off. Especially compared to the powers and buffs alot of the other characters received.
Also his new chicken wing/flame kick juggle doesn’t seem to come up alot, and that’s supposed to be a practical combo.
Maybe time will prove him to be more powerful. But for now I’m not too hopeful. Hopefully someone can prove my fears misplaced.
if you considered the fact that the chicken wing got an easier input, the lockdown would be even easier to execute…hence why he had to give it more recovery to balance out the ease of execution.
as for the chicken wing xx flame kick combo, it shouldn’t have to come up often in those air-to-air scenarios…if it did, then it’d be even more scary have 30-35% off every time.
and unfortunately, compared to the other characters, he’s probably going to stay somewhere near the bottom.
Yeah, I guess I just don’t understand the details of the balancing act for a character. It just seems like the other characters have higher and easier damage potential then Fei, and I guess its easy for me to say it seems like he should have similar potential. Though, it’s no use crying over spilt milk and I understand your points.
I think the longer range, easier rekkas are going to wind up being much more useful than people are giving them credit for.
They only move farther, they don’t actually have more range; that is, the distance between the hitboxes are all the same, they just move a longer distance. This means that they still lose to many of the attacks they lost to before, so like, Guile’s low forward and Zangief’s crouching roundhouse still beat rekka. The only difference is that Fei can now guess rekka from farther away, and sure, that helps him. Does it help him enough to move him up in the tiers? I don’t think so.
I hope this.
This does suck.
Playing counter-puncher with Fei-bulous stamina is not a winning strat either.
Longer wrekkas are fucking up my Fei bigtime.
Gotta totally rework all the patterns.
seriously, whats so good about akumas ground fireball? if its anything like ryu’s its just average where it doesnt excel at anything but just good overall.
while his ground fireball less recovery, his ground fireball also has more startup than ryus.
no it does not.
“Blue fireballs have more startup and recovery. Now same startup as Ryu’s fireball and slightly better recovery than Ryu’s. Akuma’s jab/strong/fierce blue fireball recovery times are 40,40,40 compared to Ryu’s 41,42,43, frames.”
it looks like he has more startup cuz he does a little pause with his hands out
I think every character has the potential to win more so than ever.
Just because has extra animation doesn’t mean his start up is longer. It doesn’t matter what it looks like.
You know, thinking about it, I think Akuma is going to be higher than Ryu.
Unless his taking more damage fucks him in the ass.
But I don’t mind.
Ryu wasn’t meant to be amazing in ST. He is just meant to be solid.
If I want Ryu to be amazing I’ll play A2.
no shit
i said it LOOKS like it has more startup
personally I think Akuma is more fun to play than Ken and Ryu because of his new air fireball (opposed to the broken ass one.) but when it comes to even considering on how to play him, I’m gonna wai tfor you guys to figure shit out and meta game.
Akuma will certainly be at least upper mid, probably lower top. He’s got all the tools for rushdown, turtling, mix-ups. his only weakness is his life, but most chars have some weakness, just not as glaring.
Right now sagat looks really good, at least top 3, his knees are nasty now going over fireballs and being able to combo another one is nice, and if you get a jump in, it’s curtains.
wow, what laziness…what happened to figuring shit on your own?
sigh
But doesn’t that mean that every character also has potential to LOSE more than ever?
Sorry, Onslaught. Just messing with you.

I wouldn’t put akuma above vega, balrog, or sagat but he’s definitely upper tier for sure I think his damage eating nerf is perfectly balanced because it’s what keeps him in check considering how fast he can kill you.
