The Headphones thread

nice thread

anyways I have a question. Does anybody here own or has tried Skullcandy’s Skullcrushers?? I know skullcandy is more fashion then quality in headphones and then only ones that I know are good and I have tried and have a good price are the ink’d ones but the latest skullcrushers they release look too good. So I want to see if they are worth buying. Supposedly they deliver great bass, which I like, but I don’t want the rest of the music to sound crappy. Anybody help.

^ i think you answered your own question. “More Fashion then Quality”

i dont think these are horrible headphones though, my co-worker is all about style and when i tried them i wasnt expecting much but they arent too shabby. I was impressed at the level of comfort but i dont got a mega dome either nonetheless they didnt cook my ears.

In my opinion for 50+ bucks i would rather spend it on a balance of comfort and quality sound

I had some skullcandy headphones b4

any good workout headphones?

Workout headphones? you would probably do better using an Ear buds setup, headphones are far more heavier and too loose to be doing anything super active with them on.

I think I plugged these before but I have the Sennheiser PMX-70’s for workouts and they’re decent behind-the-neck headphones that I never have to worry about falling out, for about $50. They’re neon-green though, if that’s something that bothers you.

ive got a pair of these at home. i hardly ever use them. but i will agree that over ears are far superior than any other forms.

Anyone know if shure still makes godlike earbuds?

A lot of my friends use them still, but I’m not gonna ask to listen to it. That just seems nasty. I still hear a lot of recommendations for them a bit, also. (I personally liked my Ety’s more than Shures)

What difference does having wooden headphones make in the sound? I wanna get some nice Audio Technica’s and I’m wondering if dropping the extra dough is worth it

Wooden headphones?

what model do you plan on purchasing for the AT’s?

You can’t put velvet in the shit and think they nice headphones.

I’m leaning more toward the A900’s for obvious reasons, so I was just wondering what the wood base does to the quality of the sound. Is it obvious that wood is better than other materials or is it purely an aesthetic thing?

these regular ol sony’s

I had a Sennheiser HD280 which I thought was pretty good, got it for $100 about 6 years ago. I wear these headphones like regular people where their ipod earphones. So I’m always sporting them on the subway etc., but one thing I don’t like is those leather like surfaces on the ear cups, once you get sweaty, they tend to get nasty fast, and you feel very icky. Those plastic parts also crack pretty easily, before long the whole thing was falling apart.

I moved onto the HD580 which I got for $150 about 3 years ago, which has been out of production since I got them, but I’m glad I got one, these headphones are extremely comfortable. The cushioning, all these replaceable parts are a plus too, but I they are still going strong for me, nothing wrong at all, if you can find anybody still selling these, I would highly recommend them.

The AKG-K701 is also wonderful, not to mention it looks very sexy, the new AKG-K702 is the successor, so check that out if you have the money to burn.

As far as I know the SE310 and SE530 models are some of the best IEMs on the market, unless you want to buy custom fitted IEMs from Ultimate Ears for $1000.

I want to buy Sennheiser HD595s for $185 with shipping but found a place that has the HD650s for $330 shipped; anybody here have experience with them? It’s either I buy the former with an amp or the latter by itself right now.

Jesus christ if your going to pay 500 dollars i would highly suggest going Open Ear for your headset. At least if you plan on listening to high fidelity in a way you could never imagine. Closed headphones are excellent and all but i find that open ear headphones have such airy beautiful rich sound that closed headphones cant reproduce. Closed headphones do have the Bass Advantage but if we are looking at audio clarity you def want yourself an open can.

The ATH-900 are excellent though. I personally believe there are one of the top 3 closed headphone cans you could buy. I can almost guarantee the folks at Head-fi would be right up there with me on that.

@ Draeger - My friend has a pair of 650’s. He spent 500 on them so if you can get them for 330 shipped i would highly suggest you go for it. The sound and comfort on that pair of cans had me foaming from the mouth at just audio. I was hearing shit in PERFECT fucking clarity just how they were meant to be listened to. If you take a 320bitrate track you get caught up in a trance. The only setback is the fact they are open ear so there is sound leaks to those sitting around you. But i swear to god they are the ultimate for home use.

Was looking into a pair of headphones for my cell phone (has an MP3 player built in, but it’s got that goddamned small jack). Any suggestions for good ones that work with cells?

^ I think you may want to look into a Bluetooth Headset. If your phone supports that feature then i would start there.

Sure thing, mine does support Bluetooth. Thanks.
