When through 2 of them in 2 years. 1st pair broke after 2 years. Second lasted 2 months. 1 headphone plays at a different volume than the other
Gonna try these http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00159YWDQ?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=dealt3692-20&linkCode=asn next
These are the last few earbuds ive had in the last couple of years or so. in no particular order
honestly the skull candy buds are actually pretty decent quality for the price you pay. esp. since they are almost always on sale at fye. if you arent looking to spend big bucks on earphones i recommend the skull candy buds. either of them. the smokin buds do have volume control on the headphones.
if you are willing to shell out some bucks i recommend the shure e3’s. the best ones ive had so far. havent really paid higher for headphones. but in this case the higher price does mean extra quality. i bought the shure e2’s and the sony noise cancelling at about the same time. i liked the shure e2’s over the sony’s better simply just for the fact that it didnt have that big ass battery pack for the noise cancelling feature.
havent really tried the bose cause i havent needed to. the shure e3’s are good enough and they arent broke yet. i broke the sony’s and left the e2’s in some hotel room and forgot bout them. also the ink’d buds worked a good 6 mos or more for me. ive gone through three of them(smokin & ink’d). broke the other ink’d and the smokin’s have lasted over a year for me. still got em.
I haven’t really tried Bose headphones but the general consensus on them is that they’re way overpriced. Here are my top recommendations for different types of headphones that are the best bangs for the buck
over the ear- Koss KSC 75 $20. you will never find a better pair of headphones at this price.
canal earphones- Ety Er6i $60 good clear, crisp sound. the bass is a bit lacking though
Big headphones-
Grado SR60/Sr80 $60/$95- very bright and clear. not a lot of soundstage. feels like you’re sitting right next to the instrument. a bit uncomfortable at first
Sennheiser HD595 $200 (can probably be found for cheaper)- sounds like the Grado but more laid back and more comfortable. The sound is more neutral on these as well, truer to the source. My favorite pair.
If you’re a hardcore audiophile with 1200 to spare I can recommend the best earphones on the planet and you’ll also need to go to an ophthalmologist to get an ear mold.
Bose sucks btw.
Truth.
I’m using Sennheiser HD 202 headphones. Good quality for $25.
I have found, in general, Bose are overpriced for what they deliver.
Sennheiser PMX 90 headphones are dope and not too expensive. Around 50 bucks.
i’d only spend a g on headphones if i won the lottery or something. i am looking at the ue triple.fi.10.pros though. that’s about as much as i’m willing to spend. http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Triple-fi-10-Pro-Earphones/dp/B000JFJDAE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1224854634&sr=8-2
for whoever was asking about wireless headphones. i had a pair of the jabra 8010’s and thought they were pretty good as far as sound quality goes. i lost the main earpiece though and had to go back to my ultimate ears and realized my wireless headphones sounded like crap compared to them. so wireless will be ok if you’re not too picky but now i don’t know if i’ll go back to stereo bluetooth.
That is a quote from this topic: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=132683 ,
so links and models are outdated.
Headphones are like joy sticks and buttons,
it is about preference.
Personally I like Audio-Technica the best.
Preventing deafness is your own responsibility. (http://www.hearnet.com/at_risk/risk_aboutloss.shtml)
I like circum-aural headphones the best, the ones that goes around your earlobes. Preferably the closed type.
For portability I like in-ear headphones best.
However the ear buds needs to be the soft silicone material,
rubber is too hard for me to be comfortable.
I clean the ear buds periodically with ethanol.
Unlike many others I dislike the Sennheiser sound.
I am very disappointed with the well recommended Sennheiser HD 201.
However they are very comfortable to wear, they are small but circum-aural.
The Sennheiser HD 201 Gaming is the same except for it being shiny.
The Sennheiser HD 202 has better bass but they are supra-aural, thus on the earlobes.
I had to replace my main in-ear headphones after years of service, the Sony MDR-EX70.
Looking for another one considering budget I got the Creative EP-630 (You can find them around ?2500 / $20.),
Which is very uncomfortable to me due to rubber ear buds,
it comes with three sizes of ear buds but the medium ones are too big and the small ones too small for me so I used the medium from the Sony.
It gives an okay sound, I do prefer the Sony sound, again unlike many other people.
The Creative EP-630 can go very loud though.
I do not like Bose at all.
Is their marketing really that good in the Western world?
Is this going to be the definitive Headphones thread?
Headphone threads needs the Starkey Cetera Barbershop audio file: http://www.sajithmr.com/downloads/Barbershop.mp3
Maybe the topic start needs some links then.

What about an SRK recommends “this headphone” in “this headphone” category?
I highly recommend scouring the forums at head-fi.org to find good examples of 'phones to purchase. I was looking to upgrade from my Senn px100s for use at the office, and I found a suggestion of the Denon AHD-1001s which are pretty much perfect for what I want
Didn’t we already have this thread?
First of all, if you hate sound and the health of your ears, by all means, inner ear buds are the way to go. There is no way to express your hatred for music and your earing than stuffing some pile of shit you got for free with your ipod inside your ear.
If you must wear ear phones, please wear over ear. I have been doing sound design and producing for over 10 years, and I regret using headphones (yes, even over ear). The thing is, you ears are not designed to handle artificially amplified noise that originates an inch from your drum. In the short term this might work out, when you are 40 or 50, your hearing will suck, and you might even develop tinnitus (welcome to hell on earth). Trust me guys, even with the volume at a very reasonable level, I developed tinnitus and even damaged my hearing.
If you can, drop 300$-400$ on monitors and avoid headphones (mainly inner-ear).
In-ear SkullCandy’s for about $15 were a no-brainer for me…
Im getting pretty scared of this myself. I use headphones for a couple hours at a time (workouts, bus rides) and sometimes my ears dont feel right aftwards. I want to stop but i gotta have my tunes! For some reason i always need my music loud too. I like to hear the low end and you cant really hear it too well with the volume down. I need to find a solution though because I know its fucking me up.
I bought some Sony MDR-NC6’s for work(over ear noise canceling and I enjoy them a lot. Very comfortable and good sound for like 50 bucks.
what up whatup.
so recently i decided to purchase a headphone amp.
let me tell you
BEST FUCKING PURCHASE EVER!
If you love trance or any fucking electronic shit, this beast will catch synths like pamela anderson catching hep. If you like hiphop you can hear the gunshots from the street where the studio recorded the last 50 album. If you love country, you can hear your grandma getting ran over by a reindeer.
I was a skeptic at first. I figured who the fuck needs an amp, but my friend copped it and let me listen to 3 songs. Shit was a sound Nirvana as fuck, my ears had an orgasm so intense it told my headphones to shut the fuck up for a bit so it could recover.
So i got me and Ibasso D2 and now my co-workers are trying to cop themselves one.
http://www.ibasso.com/en/products/
Oh yeah and if your wondering what kind of headset i got i have 2 pairs of headphones, Senn HD555 Open back for home and travel and Closed Back Audio Technica ath 700 for work.
I’ve used the Etymotic ER-6i’s but I haven’t found the bass to be lacking at all. Mine are plugged into a Cowon D2 and the sound / clarity is amazing. These are probably the best passive noise reducing headphones I’ve ever used, and better than most active noise canceling ones I’ve used (granted I’ve only tried them out when they were first coming out)
EDIT: As far as the damaging your hearing, what’s reasonable to some people isn’t reasonable at all. My mp3 player goes from 0-50 as far as volume control, and with the cheap ear buds that come with most mp3 players, I have to put them around 35-40 just to hear anything if there is any kind of background noise. With my ER-6’s I can keep the volume at around 10-15 and hear EVERYTHING, like guitar picks hitting the strings.
I also own a cheap set of circumaural muffs from Sennheiser (HD-280 Pro, only about $100) for monitoring.
^ good man, i love the 280’s. I used to record tracks with my boy and he had a pair for his recording room.
i ended up catching the ATH700 for under 100 so i had to grab em.
I’m looking for some for music that has noise cancel. If possible, less than $100.
I’ve been using AKG K414 for a while now.
The sound is great, they’re pretty small so you don’t look like princess Leia in the street/train, and not very expensive too.
AKG is my favourite headphone brand for the design, and the sound quality is waaaay better than any Japanese crap.
