LK has a quicker startup it is possible to DEEP jumpin (HK jumpin)and then LK DDT on BLOCK and there is not enugh time to DUCK! you can test this with “block all–Duck” it will catch the trainingsdummy but i dont actualy see a use in MP DDT…
Sim matchup because I guess in Super I know both characters pretty well:
Imo Hakan does fine against Dhalsim. So Dhalsim doesn’t want to let you oil up, obviously, right? Well in order to make sure he can punish your oil, he can’t throw a yoga fire, because if you’re at range then slow-moving yoga fire = free lk oil. At the same time he doesn’t want to let you waltz right in, and his best way of doing that is to set up yoga fire traps. So even when you’re not oiled, Sim is caught in this weird conundrum about what to do, since his best way of controlling space will just give Hakan the chance to get 10 times more dangerous. And by the way your normals are awesome counterpokes against his, especially from full screen. If you’re full screen away and successfully counterpoke or trade (trade is good for you) with his fierce with your fierce or strong or whatever, that’s basically a free oil.
When you’re oily, you’re really hard for Dhalsim to deal with. Oil dancing around the screen with lots of focus dnc cr. mk/toward+mp buffer slide, sweep, or even just stand mk/mp is super annoying for Dhalsim since it makes him not want to risk throwing out long normals. Throwing a fire becomes even riskier, since it not only results in you getting more oily at range but also can result in you focus dashing through it into serious pain.
Drill rushdown might be more annoying for Hakan than keepaway in some cases, like if Hakan is knocked down with whatever, Sim can start his pressure. But while that can be annoying, it’s not really that dangerous unless he has super.
I’m not gonna call any matchup numbers for a while because things are changing too quickly, but right now this doesn’t seem like a bad matchup at all.
RE: Adon. I’m pretty sure Adon gets frame advantage (or he’s at least neutral) when you block his HK Jaguar Tooth from all the way across the screen. One flowchart Adon tactic is HK Jag Tooth (blocked)–>Rising Jaguar. People eat the Rising Jaguar all the time. I rarely see it get interrupted.
Also am I the only one who has severe issues trying to punish an HK Jag Tooth after a neutral jump? Whenever I neutral jump it and stick out an attack, my character faces the wrong way and Adon sails below me and ends up behind me. The attack comes out in the wrong direction and he can punish me afterwards. It happens so much that I dont even bother trying to neutral jump it anymore (I just block it), or if I do neutral jump I dont stick out an attack at all.
Also I’m gonna start saying fuck it as well and use HK/EX oil more often. I think alot of people forget that Hakan gets a stamina boost while oiled, so he ends up taking less damage from attacks. The Prima guide says its a 10% boost, which means that while Oiled he has 1155 stamina, which is the highest in the game.
Funny tidbit vs. Dudley, EX Oil Rocket beats Corkscrew Cross, up close of course. Probably not that useful because good Dudleys aren’t gonna be throwing it out there, but it was a pleasant surprise.
All righty, folks. I updated the front post with “spoiler” type entries for each matchup. Most of them aren’t updated yet, but they will be as time goes on. With that said, I’ve updated the Fuerte section with a little tidbit of info regarding his matchup.
I’m gonna tell something that most of you probably have known for a long time, but anyway:
don’t forget, you can do a standing 360P/360K in this game, because of the dumbing down SFIV has had regarding motions, to do a 360 move you only need to go over 7 points of direction, so you can do HCF beginning from the right all the way to the left, and then end the move with upforward+P/K, this way you don’t need to buffer the motion in a dash/attack/jump.
against guile, when you have oil and ultra here’s a nice set-up for OCH (U2):
focus sonic boom dnc standing jab or some sort of quick normal, and buffer ultra. Many guiles see focusing a sonic boom and think “oh, a free jump in” but you can indeed buffer ultra fast enough to catch them. pretty neat gimmick.
I’ve only played a couple decent Ibukis. It seems like a tough match up to learn, but Hakan definitely has tools. When Ibuki tries to zone with kunai at a distance, I try to use oil slide to go under them and end up right next to Ibuki as she is landing, setting up some nasty SPD stuff. Plus if she ever goes for the oil punish and gets it blocked, she gets SPDed or cr.MK>oil slide.
Also, that target combo thing where she follows up with a jump in (I’m really not sure how often serious Ibukis use this, though) can get U2ed to hell, as well as any kunai wake up pressure.
So far, Bison, Guile, and Claw seem to the hardest match ups. But I wouldn’t put them at rape. Although scissor kick pressure is super annoying.
Also, f.LP is such a better anti-air than s.HP. It takes precise timing but it stuffs so much stuff that I wouldn’t even dream of stuffing with s.HP. Less damage but it recovers fast so that you can set up shenanigans as they land.
Good thing I got all that practice in with Rufus doing this -_-.
What Ultra are you using for Akuma? If it’s U2, stop using it. Akuma can change how fast and where he falls constantly, and it is really hard to land it compared to a U1.
I gotta try air grabbing him from fireballs. Airgrab is delicious.
I’m still rather horrible with Hakan, but considering what happened earlier yesterday, I have to wonder if Hakan has an answer to Vega’s FA on wake-up, especially without oil and without super. You can’t backdash it. Slides don’t seem to come out in time, even EX. I doubt that 360+K would come out in time either and I’m pretty sure that he can park outside of 360+P range.
So, the only solution that looks like it might work be to try to jump. However, does it work?
Do you guys have any idea how to deal with Balrog? I never fully realized how horrible Hakan is at certain match-ups until that one. I dont believe that just time and training can make Hakan that much stronger, so that he stand a chance against good Rogs and Hondas for that matter.
Its very risky to try oiling up vs these characters. Trading isnt really an option since your oil duration than shortens and people can just wait or zone(and who the hell would wanna trade lk oil for a Fierce headbutt anyway). I cant do much Vs Hondas head and Rogs dash punches. Also Rog is shutting me down up close with those fast crouching jabs…dont know what to do. I am playing what i believe to be a decent Rog players and comparing my performance vs flowcharacters this is by far my worst match-up. Guile match-up seems like a nightmare as well, but havent tried it yet.
I’m going to have a hard time not using my EX Bar for anything else other than oil slides against fireballers. It’s free damage, a knockdown, and if I’m oiled up I can go on the offensive. And Hakan can punish from FULL SCREEN…it’s so delicious. Then once they realize that any EX means no fireballs, I find the whole zoning game a lot easier
Still curse ever now and then, but hey…it’s Hakan, the 1980’s equivalent of the old school platformers that made you throw your controller everywhere, but still managed to be fun
