By the way, if anyone is baffled by the idea of xx lk diving on reaction after a f.mp, keep in mind that you do the 360 motion during the f.mp. You only have to press lk on reaction. Plus, as I mentioned above, you judge if they’re standing or crouching just before the f.mp connects, giving you more time.
Yeahh, I’ve always wondered about those delayed slides by Wildcat! I knew there was something going on there, nice! F.mp EX rocket, that sounds nasty
I’ve got some AWESOME new tech for Sagat: Dive, neutral jump, forward j.hk. It works out beautifully with slide-press, neutral jump, lk dive and meaty f.mp xx delayed/ lk dive. (Sagat can’t jump or crouch to avoid f.mp xx lk dive, so you should be able to get this in really well). Also, this may be old but if the Sagat you’re fighting is doing hp tiger uppercuts, you can block one and then neutral jump hk, c.mk xx slide. That should teach him. Also, here’s a weird one that can be used occasionally: slide-press, jump over, jump over immediate j.hk. That stuffs Sagat’s uppercuts or causes hp and EX to whiff.
[edit]Neutral jump, j.hk after dive works well against other characters I’ve tested now, e.g. Ryu, Dudley and Adon.
After some thought and experience, it’s clear that f.mp xx delayed slide on reaction to an opponent standing should be a much more common attack. Mostly because lk dive in this scenario will whiff against most opponents’ jumps. It gets Sagat, though, which is good.
can you link a video reference or two to this example?
yes i think it is better to visualize it… i got the picture but can’t really see it with timing…Also when saga wake up from knock down…if people wants to block, it is usually crouch…or he is doing wakeup dp.
You get CH’s on tiger knees, so you’ll catch him standing on wake-up at times. But, you’re right. Sagat is not much for standing defense, like characters who walk quickly, like Bison. However, jump back often results in standing defense, which happens. I catch characters standing, when they try to throw and jump, with my style of play. I get in close on wake-up quite often. Not as much against Sagat, though; still, I think some Sagats will start jumping backward with the way I play.
Just a demonstration of a f.mp xx delayed lk dive or slide? Yeah, I can make one. Wildcat does the delayed slide, so you should be able to find one of those somewhere.
As a side note, I tested dive, n.jump, j.hk against Guile, too. Works perfectly against him, too. He can’t walk under it, either, as he does with slide-press, s.mp.
Hey Mordie…
I fought few scrubs (back jumpers with hp or hk) i don’t really have an answer for that. Maybe you have. So ,a example of that is Rog. When he back jump with hp I can not do anything. He is like jumping away from left to right , right to the left and when he is far, He just do armor breaking punches. This especially happens when he has the life lead. To get the life lead he can jumping and mix with tick and pokes. Of course, I can oil up but still has to chase him and any wrong blocked slides are punished severely. I try to counter poke in the air(HP, mp) , it does not work. Mp is too short and Hp barely touch him or trade. Well timed slides get hit and dives also does not win in the air.
Do you have answer for that.
I know Ultra David tended to use j.hp against Balrog’s jump-away (which you say doesn’t work very well… you probably get mixed results). I think s.mp will stuff the armor break punches and has good enough range and speed; not sure, though, but it might work and give CH, too. That’ll give a nice combo, if so. Not sure. Balrog can be awfully tricky. Maybe Drew or Liquigen have some advice. Liquigen wrote the Balrog strategy, really. By the way, I’ve had some success with c.hp against jump away (and neutral jump) against some characters, and even if you trade, as long as you’re oiled, the air reset is good offense opportunity. Might be worth experimenting with against Balrog’s back jumps.
[edit]I tried out c.hp against Balrog’s jump back, and it sucks. Good against some but not him.
I read the guide again and again…whenever i have problems with some matches I go back and check whether something i forgot. I remember it is written cr mk combo into slide or just st hp when it is short but maybe I don’t have the reaction or i am kinda slow…it is not always easy to do. If rog is turtling to block my slide , it become very difficult to counter the rushing punches with a slide after you get punished several times.
j.hp is sometimes ok but if rog expect you to j.hp he will do a early back jump hp …in this case, i might lose.
There isn’t many videos to go on for Hakan vs Balrog, Wildcat has a couple. Here’s some that might help you out:
I’m no expert on the matchup, but Balrog’s annoy me for being hard to open up due to downback antics, so I usually go for SPD a little more than I usually do, I think Oil Dives can be a good option too.
This guy, he had a great Hakan. No flash, but very solid fundamentals. I don’t know what happened to him, is he still on the PS3 leaderboards? This guy is better than most of the Hakans that are around now to be honest, though he did do some odd things, these are from super but might help you a little bit. There was a vid where he jabbed through balrogs EX rush punches but I couldnt find it, you’ll find a couple of Balrog matches at 4.55

I think Hakan can bully Balrog actually from mid-range especially when watching that ^ When oiled he can footsies incredibly hard for Balrog by focusing his cr.RH into a combo. Like I said I’m no expert but I like to attack Balrog, also on wakeup make sure you just keep pressuring him. Maybe someone else more familiar with the Mu can help you out. Haven’t seen Liquigen in a while actually, guess he’s taking a break!
i went to power up in nyc this past weekend, and got cleanly beat by a rog a few times. I realize an important use of focus that was killing me, was I was releasing focus after absorbing a hit as opposed to dash canceling into a normal.
where this is advantageous in other matchups, against rog, i’d be absorbing headbutt, then wiffing and getting punished
Speaking of Balrog, f.mp (or c.mk even) xx EX rocket is good against his EX rush punches. You can do the rocket on reaction, when you see the punch coming after you’ve started the f.mp. You just judge what to do before the f.mp lands, doing the 360 motion regardless and pressing the punch buttons on reaction.
Would f.mp into super work as well?
I would think so. I was trying it online and having a rough time. I only got it in once. It was easy in training mode :P. Still, I think it’s something to keep in mind, that you can use to punish a predictable Balrog with meter.
I am not saying that i lose a lot against rog. There was only one (really scrubby UK player: Ashmeista;second account scrubkiller1) he just ran away left and right with jump back and do armor breaking punch when he is far away. Especially, when he has the life leads. I have the bad habit of doing focus while inching forward. While playing he insults people like “you are piece of shit, scrub and scumbag”, provoking people.
I usually fight everyone who challenge me while i am playing arcade mode. So, they keep on coming and does not switch to other characters when you see that it is going to be a tough fight. Once i lost 500bp in half hour with class A hakan account.
The thing that annoying me is to chase him but once i got known-down he can’t get away with huge damage.

As of today, I am official done maining T.Hawk. Im all about Hakan now. I need to be. All my time and effort is to the Oil King and cant be shared. I’ll be spending a lot more time on here too, reading the threads so I can improve. I need all the help I can get.
If you watch my latest fights Hakan Versus 11-1-11 on Youtube, I do a f.mp xx lk dive against Makoto.
[edit]I’ve found that dive, dash, jump over, f.mp xx delayed lk dive is easier than slide-press, jump over, f.mp. I’ve done eight in a row, guessing properly whether my recoded randomly ducking dummy was ducking or standing and lk diving on each stand. Again, more than EX dive, if you get the hit and the dive in :).
