The Hakan General Discussion Thread

Damn. You got a gameplan? You know yourself, Akuma isn’t as bad for Hakan as people think. If you have ultra 2 you know he’s going to demon in early, so you’ll have a chance at EX spd. If you nail him with that he’s going to start jumping. Which means u2 or airgrab. You’re the matchup expert of course, I’m sure you have something prepared. I don’t think Tokido will know much about this MU, though he did say on record that he felt it was Akumas easiest matchup. Make him think twice about that. Good luck!

i’ve known this but i’m just posting this because i’m implimenting it more as of late to get my canceling done better

basically, if you hold forward or back and then focus, you only need to tap the same direction one more time to dash cancel. the game registers an individual directional input when you focus while already holding a direction.

this should be informative to new and some old players who’ve missed this earlier in this and other threads.

So after further experimentation with slide-press, jump-over, s.lk, OS 7, lp+lk, you have to have a slight delay on the s.lk in order for the air-throw to work. So** s.lp**, OS 7, throw timing is what any other OS would have to be based on. In other words, only s.lp, OS 7, throw is designed to throw in the air and the ground, but variations on it will be trickier because the timing is not built-in to the game the same way. I suppose if Bison starts to walk backward, you are kind of screwed. Of course, once you have U1, jump over, hp slide starts to be worth the gamble to U1 a teleport, so that will get walking, obviously. Regardless, I have some ideas on what to do about Bison walking backward, but I haven’t done enough lab work to decide it.

[edit]I think this only applies to Bison, really; I’ll have to check how tick OS 7 works against other characters.

I did horrible 2-2 but atleast I gotta chance to root and meet Chron. I was looking for him on SUnday so we could do a all Hakan team for AE teams but i didnt find him in time. I did play teams but got bodied. My best match in teams was my first one and it was against Combofiend. he was telling F.Champ, “Im going Makoto” then he saw me pick hakan. he was like, “for reals Shel? you going Hakan. I respect that.” and went to his newly found main Oni. I didnt get a round but lost on pixels. Actually Ive won some matches through the tourney or Casuals however I didnt get pee’ed on not once. Im think Im just going to train allday everyday with Hakan from now on and going to do some serious training with Krone and Banana Ken in the coming weeks.

Glad you had a good time, and good to see you’ve still got that Hakan spirit! Good stuff, well, you know all the guys here will help you out if you ever need help with anything, just ask away. Really looking forward to seeing some Hakan videos from SB.

I had a blast at Season’s Beatings. Syn, it was nice meeting you man. Thanks for the support. Sorry I couldnt stay and play some with you, saturday night was 3s drinking til 5am and we just left sunday afternoon.

Overall I’m happy with how everything turned out. Highlight was the 1st stream match, lowlight was the 2nd stream match. I seriously got bodied my 2nd match and made idiotic decisions. I don’t even wanna watch it. Even my first match, there were many mistakes like missing free slides and stupid dives. I’ll fix this with 2012. I learned a lot about playing hakan on saturday though. Bad luck that my next match right after my win was a guy who mains the same character, but that’s how it is sometimes. Hearing the hype for hakan was great.

After this weekend, I honestly believe the oil at beginning will make Hakan incredibly better. He really is top tier with oil and bottom tier without. I’ll be on a SF4 break til 2012 patch (too addicted to 3s again… gdit) but I’ll be back and training harder than ever when it comes out.

Great stuff! I know you don’t want to watch the matches, but I really would like to see them. If you don’t want to share them then that’s okay. Good to hear you’re happy with how things went.

I’m just interested to hear about you saying you learned a lot about playing Hakan at the tournament. What did you learn? Would be good to know what you took from the tournament in this regard.

Also, nothing beats Hakan hype at a tournament huh? haha

I dunno where the 2nd one was but someone sent me the 1st one (I really dont feel like hunting the 2nd one anyways, lol). I’ll post in videos.

I really just learned stuff about myself. What I do too much of, what I need to do more of, stuff like that. I slide way too much. I also feel a lot more confident about Hakan with 2012 changes. I feel that Hakan’s problems as a character are addressed in 2012 with oil at beginning and a better dive.

Awesome! I’ll check it out in a bit.

Alright, that’s cool. Tournaments are always a great way to gauge where you’re at and what you need to work on. Slideing too much is interesting, definitely a common Hakan problem? What are the reasons for the slides though? Panic? Frustration?

2012 yeah, love to get another discussion going because we have a release date now, and it isn’t too long to go.

I know you’ll be taking a break but I hope you’ll still be posting in the forums!

am i right in thinking hakan has some invulnerability on his ex slide?
does it start up quick enough to go under the second hit of akumas standing roundhouse?

So, it’s possible to hit confirm into slide after s.lp, into quarter circle, f.lk if you hit the punch button very last. Might come in handy, when you’re too far to get s.lk, s.lp, f.lk xx slide. Cuttin’ a bit close, but it’s quite doable.

Yeah there some invincibilty on it, and yeah probably from real close range it should work.

Ok cheers man. Might help me against those akumas that get kick happy.

Got beat bad wed night at the pub sessions by a fei…flippin fei!!
had to revert back to Blanka but i’ve been playing hakan too much and i just got bodied!

Don’t worry, Fei is getting the nerf bat. Though he’s still going to be strong. I just watched an interview with Mago yesterday who was talking about AE 2012. He was asked if Fei became really weak if he would stay loyal, and he replied ‘Well, if he became as weak as Hakan, then I might have to reconsider’’ something along those lines. Come on, why does Hakan have to be the scapegoat? He’s not even the weakest in AE! In my opinion he’s actually pretty good! Screw you, Mago.

Well anyway, I’ve been watching some Japanese hakan replays, just ok Hakans…but the replays I watched were them playing high point players, and winning, because they effectively used mixups. It proves that even though there’s a big skill difference between you and the opponent, utilising mixups well means you can beat anyone. I’ll post them up sometime soon. So keep this in mind. Have a look at the video I posted up yesterday, try using some of those setups, and the Fei will be scratching his head.

actually after meeting Mago in person he reeks of arrogance and that makes me want to train harder with Hakan.

Oh really? What happened when you met him?

I think i just played your thawkx2 and hakan.

hakan mirror>me. lol

Yea that was me. You have some really nice SS setups. I was getting mad as hell. GGs

Tokido, Daigo and Momochi are nice as hell. Tokido will sit down and talk to you and explain anything you wanna know about akuma (his English is very, very good). Didn’t talk to yuro but Mago and Poongko are dicks. Straight up rude and arrogant. I just watched Mago’s behavior at Seasons Beatings. He acted like he was just better then everybody, Im not just talking about games, I mean how he carried himself and going by what Wolfkrone, Antwan and various other players have told me over these couple months, Ive seen it with my own eyes two weeks ago. He’s very cocky and is a sore winner and loser.

So I noticed quite a while ago that Wildcat did a f.mp xx delayed hp slide, using the large input window in f.mp to create a bit of a frame trap. Recently, I’ve been experimenting with meaty f.mp xx delayed lk dive, giving me time to confirm if they were standing just before f.mp hit. (You need to connect early in f.mp animation to be able to create a delay).

I find the best complement to that is f.mp xx delayed slide. If f.mp hits, the delay doesn’t end the combo. If they block, it gives them time to try to jab, which gets punished by the delayed slide. Kind of a cool/fun trick. This would have been a much bigger find prior to AE, but I think it’s still quite useful. F.mp, lk dive takes more than an EX dive.

I’ve gotten it in a few times online, since I’ve been practicing and have been happy with the results. Happy enough to put it in General Discussion, instead of in the basemen (i.e. lab).

The way to practice this tricky technique is to create a dummy that does crouching defense and standing intermittently, and then go to work on them. You get used to the timing in a relatively short time. You don’t have to hold lk to avoid whiffing, as long as your delay was done properly.

As a side note, anyone using f.mp xx EX rocket to punish FA’s? If your opponent gets predictable with their FA, it’s a fantastically damaging punish.
