The Hakan General Discussion Thread

I could be wrong, but I was messing around with f.lk xx slide and whenever I used the shortcut and saw the proper input for plinking in display, I just slide and didn’t f.lk. I think you can’t plink f.lk xx slide, if you’re using the shortcut. I quit trying to plink and have been doing much better, actually.

I’ve also been thinking about the grey life you get from j.hk and the risk in doing BNB at that point. I’m inclined to do c.lk X3 in that situation from now on, to buy time to recover. The grey life healing alone is a victory, and it gives you revenge meter to boot. Then, if you get some damage from c.lk and then wait for a split second to j.mp jump attempts, you’re golden. I like the lower risk and the recover of yellow life.

Not to say that BNB after parry has no place. It does. I’m just not as inclined to use it, now that I’ve thought about it. I’ll still try to master it, because I may need it in some cases. At this point, I’m not terribly enthused about it. A j.hk plus an EX shoryuken is pretty painful, which is the damage you get if your opponent interrupts BNB.

So here’s some godly stuff to add to that Sagat, slide-press, neutral jump set up:

First of all, upon wake-up, block for a split second and do a c.hp. That’ll punish back dashes and block uppers and knees. Much better than that, however, is neutral jump, s.mk, OS lk dive (to get back dashes–Sagat’s is so slow, he can’t do a thing), Ultra 1. Even better, that s.mk will stuff all knees, including EX, without air reset. You get ultra 1 against knees, too (provided they don’t jump or back dash AFTER the s.mk… as a side note, s.mp is too far away for ultra 1 to land in this case). Lastly, as it turns out, slide-press, neutral jump, immediate forward j.hk will land directly at the end of Sagat’s back dash, so he doesn’t air reset, meaning you get a full combo. I played a Sagat today, and I got him back dashing from my set up, so it’s viable. After one of those, he’s going to be very concerned about trying it again.

I can see where you’re coming from with the BNB parry. If you want a safe and secure method while putting yourself in a great position then yeah go for the cr.lks. If however you’re really confident with your combos then its a good bet to go for the st.jabs or st.shorts. For me sometimes I do st.jab/short sometimes but sometimes I do cr.lks…I dunno I just like the secure feeling of using cr.lks and pinning them down, using it as a base for your offense.

I have become of the opinion that Hakan’s offense is largely about his revenge meter. Just the parry and the safety are pretty handy to have alone. Obviously, if you’ve got some serious skills and can avoid getting SRK’d well, that’s pretty superb. I’m not there yet, and I’m not sure I’m going to be… especially not online where the timing can be thrown off a bit.

So… I have some extremely handy new tech for everyone that will help a lot against Bison in particular. I think people will be very happy to see the video I make for this, which you’ll see in a few days. We’ll have a legit wake-up game against this fool AND a better way to defend some typical Bison techniques. It applies to others as well, but it’s best against Bison, I think.

Speaking of which, is F+MK a viable punch against scissor Kicks? I cant remeber.

Too slow. Back dash normal cancel, mp is pretty good and c.lp is okay.

…waiting for it…

I’m working on a fixed up version of my irregular oil dive video that’ll have a teaser at the end, that’ll pretty much give you the gist of how you’ll use it against Bison. Also, I finally got a new computer and a new video capture device that won’t look like ass, when I put it on Youtube. It’ll be done tomorrow, I think, seeing as I have to learn the new software, and I’m trying set it up to be a nice presentation.

So I feel like procrastinating making a video, so I’ll give some info. on how to use OS air throw in a practical manner. Anyhoo… against Bison, slide-press, jump-over (of course), meaty s.lp, 7, 5+lk+lp. That will throw him if he stands there and air throw EX stomp and potentially devil reverse. To get devil reverse every time AND teleport, jump over and slide. If you have meter, use FA to cancel. After slide, you U1 telport. To get devil reverse if he goes toward you, just walk backward and wait 'til he lands. If he tries to move away, of course you just slide after him. He’s still in range. (Keep in mind he has no charge for any other special move). Anyhoo, I hope you guys like this. There is more to this OS air throw than this; I’ll get around to my next video soon enough. Maybe in a couple days.

Against Ryu, among others, if they have a tendency to j.hk, neutral j.hk, an easy way to beat that is as follows: block, press down back (against a j.hk, neutral jump dummy, you should see yourself duck for a split second), 7, 1+lk+lp. In other words, you will crouch tech if your opponent decides to do one c.lk and stops. If your opponent does no c.lks and does a neutral jump, you will air throw, if they are close. Very easy and very effective.

There is a slightly different way to do this against Bison. He’s very vulnerable to air throw. Anyway, again, block, but this time, go straight to crouch tech and then as your c.lk finishes, again do 7 and again go back to crouch tech. If he neutral jumps, you’ll quickly throw him after a single c.lk. Easy and effective, with little practice.

There are other applications, e.g. after you s.mk, if you think they expect a throw and they are jumpers, try the same technique you did as if you just blocked Ryu’s j.hk. You’ll block whatever counters they might come out with, but if they neutral jumped, you’ve got them.

Also, with my slide-press jump over offense, you can go straight for it after an air throw with dash, jump over, etc. Works well so far; I got my PP up to 2000 today and got a C+. I need more practice, so I don’t screw up as much, but this strategy is making life much easier. Even better, I won in sets against a Ryu with 2600 PP. Slide-press jump over and OS air throw were the keys to victory, really.

This is essential against Chun-Li for slide-press, jump over, by the way. Works very well against her but has tight timing. She’s still hard :p. Regardless, it’s very good. Video will be forthcoming; hope you guys are trying this, because it’s extremely satisfying. Opens up new avenues of attack after air throw and oil dive. OS air throw should be good after safe slide, too. I haven’t worked on that yet, though.

Hey Mordie

is 7 means back jump? What happened if Bison do a st. HK? it will kick you in the air while inputing 7,1+lp+lk.
I don’t really see how it is done. Let me describe again to be sure that I gets it.
For Ryu, Just standing block the jump in and then do a cr.Lk+lp for tech throw or cr. short. Hit the back jump (position 7 on keyboard) followed quickly down-back + Lp+lK. If the opponent jumps again it gets grabbed.
Is that correct?
Another thing against ryu is that when ryu jumps HK at you, he will do 2 X cr. Mp and from my experience, while trying to jump you will get hit by the second cr.mp. Even though it is a back jump

Yes, 7 means back jump. True, if Bison were to do a slower move like s.hk, he could punish you. I would mix it up with EX rocket.

Not for Ryu. Ryu’s jump is quicker. Just do crouching defense for a split second. Then press back jump (aka 7) for another split second and go back down to crouch tech. So 4 (against the j.hk), 1 (so you see yourself crouch), 7 (which will occur during a c.lk OR during a jump, and 1+c.lp+c.lk. You will tech, air throw, block or c.lk, depending on your opponent’s actions.

You’ll be pressing back jump while blocking the first c.mp. You’re good. Not that it’s impossible to punish or anything. Again, mix it with stuff.

Hey Mordie… I just want to point out possibilities which do not cover from your findings which from my experience also had trouble with.
Also air grab can only being done if you are in certain height. Pressing too early will cause Lk knee in the air. How fast do you do the Lp+lk.

Yeah. It takes some precision. I would just practice, until you get a rhythm down. Just don’t mash, and you’ll get it after a while.

Whelp. Im getting ready to go to Seasons Beatings. I’ll post about it later on Sunday.

Good luck Sir’! Hope you take all the Hakan tech that’s been found over the last few months with you

can someone help me clarify this. just want to make sure.

Hakans sliding (double tap punch) = follow-up dmg/body-press comes out on hit

-if i do this with a [safe slide] setup, does it put me in a more vulnerable position than a single button slide?

-afaik it doesn’t extend the frame recovery of the sliding move just because of the double tap?

-but double tap extends a tiny extra reach of the sliding hit box?
so for some instances the lp.slide might just miss or hit the opponent depending on the 2nd button press?

-also if double punch tap the sliding input, the Focus Cancel wont come out?

I’m pretty sure it’s just the same, because in the end you’re hitting them with the end of the slide either way. So it’s not really that much of a risk with safe slides, because hit or block you’re in a good spot. And yeah, unfortunately if you double tap it you won’t be able to Focus Cancel out of it.

I’m pumped for SB. Gonna enjoy it. Im in the Pool with Tokido. Hopefully you guys will see me on stream, if not oh well I’ll have fun
