I play with pad as well and back in super i did not have lk on any of my pad buttons so when i want lk oil I hold the PPP button which i put on R2 then I input fwd down fwd throw (lp+lk) on L1 and comes out only lk on input. The game thinks all the punch buttons are held so it’s impossible to have another lp function thrown in there. Even till today I put my jab on L2 and when i got cornered and need better c.jab to slide combo reaction i hold my KKK so i get lp from throw button. It’s totally hard to do constant connected combo with jab on L2 not to mention the button is a “pressure sensitive trigger”. pressed lightly - doesn’t come out, pressed too hard - messes with your jab timings.
This is why you should move to stick instead of pad. My config for pad is 3x K instead of HK, 1 button for grab and 3xP and one extra button for HP, Lk is just beneath of the grab button on the left top of the 2 buttons.
HK is not really important in my hakan setup. I use ex dive. However, lk is pretty important for lk oil and step low+ slide.
I’ve tried sticks, but no good. I’ve been playing SF with playstation pad since PS1 era. If I play at arcade or use friend’s stick none of the moves will come out constantly. felt weird too. I have lk now on O button like you i dont have HK button as well i only use EX.
Really. Te stick is the way to go. Although I have to say that I am also adapting to it. Blocking is my issue and also mistakes are made too often in my case. But compare to the situation when I first started with stick, now it is much better. Just force yourself in losing a lot online and at the end this will improve by time.
haha yeah you’re right blocking is also a problem. Like back in the arcade when i tried AE hakan for 1st time I eat jump ins all the time I wanted to block high but my hands are not adaptive enough to get the feel of where the “back” direction is I end up pressing 8-7 o clock direction and low blocking. Also qcf for slide makes for spd bah! I could not stand it lol. rake up nother 150-200 aussie dollar for a stix… ah well I’ll think about it.
hahaa
i cant do anything on pad.
people used to make fun of me when they see me playing with big ol’ custom stick, talkin like i thought i was all big and bad at games. hahaaThey didnt seem to understand that I needed it in order to play.
or: I would tell heads I play SF, then im chillin at they house, pop in the game, then they hand me a pad. hahaa. "I thought you said you played SF"
I am amazed the anyone can do this stuff with just their thumb, i can do precisely nothing on pad
of course fighters is really all i play, so i never get time on pads, I cant even scroll through my netflix instantQ on pad without jumping rows, hahaaa
but hey, i guess im an old man
from those days
sorry for derail
I switched to an arcade stick a few months ago. It’s only been a month since I’ve felt like I’ve been better than I was with a pad. But I’m still improving with it, so it’s good stuff.
Has anyone put any time into oil dives off resets? I’ve recently landed a few during online matches following anti air f.lp but upon further testing in training room I’ve found it nowhere as simple as it seemed in-match.
No. I find the height from which the air reset takes place to be too big of a variable to be reliable (though I’m sure it’s possible). I’d rather do a dash under reset or a fake dash under or a plain meaty.
Does anyone ever use super to catch neutral jumps? Seems like the timings quite hard, from point blank I mean
A question about Hakan, since I couldn’t find the Hakan question board. Is the reason why he has an easier time in matches against zoning character than Zangief or T Hawk due to his Oil Slide, or is there something else I’m missing? Because Hakan has better scores against zoning characters overall.
Yeah I did quite sometime in ranked mode cause ppl loved to jump up and down and I do just out of gut feeling so don’t follow my tricks, bad example XD I do catch dictator quite often, the ones who tried to bait my EX SPD by jumping vertically and inputting his HK I think. His jump is up high it is much easier to anticipate when to release the super thus catching him on the way down after the whiffed kick.
Yeah I have problem with them too for some reason. Have to start acting like those poke characters when you go into play with grappler heavy character and the 360 masher nooblets still kill me often and I don’t know why for some reason most of them brought lag to our matches. And when it’s not laggy the threat of getting grabbed got on me nerve so I still lose… sigh
Negative. Not only is there the issue that your meter is well spent else where (EX, fadc), the fact remains that super is pretty ass-tier. If someone REALLY REALLY REALLY wants to neutral jump my ass all day, its better to try neutral jump air throw (somewhat risky), neutral jump mid (kinda risky), or jump back fierce (imo, the safest of the three. fierce has such a good hitbox). Then again, if you don’t want to commit to a jump, you can do f.mp or f.lp as an anti air.
It’s mainly due to the fact that Hakan is much more mobile then the other two. He has a faster dash, a better focus, and of course parrying is a big factor in a lot of matchups.
Slide is important as well, though thats more of a mental deterrent; you won’t really be able to use it, per se, but the threat of it is still there. And also, especially when oiled, slide fadnc s.lk/c.lks is a constant threat when you’re grounded.
Of course it also helps that Hakan has some beefy normals, the most notable being f.mp, that allow him to get inside well.
Okay cool, maybe it really isn’t worth it then.
So I thought I’d get some discussion going on the free balance patch that AE will be getting, maybe some time this year. There’s a good chance some of the top characters will be changed a bit. Does anyone feel hakan will get altered, given anything? Or would like to see anything new?
Personally I don’t think he really needs much, I’ve really been enjoying AE Hakan. I would have liked that 3 frame Step low, but they obviously had their reasons for not changing it. I can’t actually think of anything else right now, (I just woke up lol) so hopefully you guys can give some input.
I think he’s gonna stay as he is today AE version considering the release of AE patch wasn’t too far apart from this balancing patch. Maybe they’ve received way too many complains from the yun yang match ups so they decide to tweak them. But if they add another grappler to the roster I’d be willing to try him / her
Well for one I just can’t see Hakan receiving nerfs of any kind but then again this is Capcom so anything is possible. Maybe add an extra second or 2 to lk oil since it’s basically as unsafe as it was in super. I also wish they could somehow find a way to make Hakan’s uncrouchable Oil Dive setups actually work on the gang of six (Cammy, Sim, Honda, Blanka and the Twins). Wishful thinking maybe but there really is no logical reason why an intrical part of Hakan’s offensive repertoire shouldn’t work on the entire cast.
I would love for standing fierce to be an overhead on the second hit and that we could cancel Super into guard position. Most likely though is that he’ll stay the way his is now.
He really doesn’t need any changes, period. He has all the tools we need; now we need to learn how to use them effectively.
And no he doesn’t need an overhead.
He doesn’t need it, you are correct, but an oily man can dream!
I’ve been trying this new AE trick against viper recently. (and by recently I mean only like 3 times) When a predictable burn kick (obviously fishing for the crossup mixup) is coming I have been EX oiling to avoid the hit, instantly coward crouching (just a tap) and landing an SPD or Ultra right from getting up from the coward crouch which is just as she lands. I can’t say that its totally safe, so I wouldn’t recommend doing it more than once or twice (I think it will totally catch most vipers off guard) in a series of matches. Save it for when you need it, imo. Good way to get oiled fast and land some free damage.
More to get some oil and pretty much guarantee spd range if you are unoiled because you could probably coward crouch flame kicks normally.
