The Hakan General Discussion Thread

Thanks for the tips Mordie-Kai - I’ll go in training mode and see what I’m doing wrong.

So I thought. After experimenting with it with a dummy, it seems to be risky against throws. You move right back in range of the throw, so the throw may be active as you come back with f.mp. I think bdnc f.mp has a use, though, in that it gives you a much shorter f.mp. That’s good to set up for command throws and also, at max range, f.mp recovers faster on block. It’s kind of like having two f.mp’s, with such different ranges and the back dash does keep you safer (but not safe) from throws and other attacks.

After experimenting, I’m thinking bdnc c.lp xx slide is good against throws while, if you can pull it off consistently and can do the work, UltraDavid’s suggestion to use bdnc s.mp, f.lk xx slide is probably best. I think s.mp is a tiny bit less safe, but the pay off is significantly greater.

Personally I like bdnc st mp or either st lp or st lk (depending on your opponent’s character or what normal he was likely to have used etc), link either to toward+lk xx slide. Best to get that hit confirm, damage, and knockdown.

Bdnc is also nice after a safe slide, since you’ll blow through both throw attempts and crouch techs.

What do you mean? J.MP >F+RH>Oil Dive? What do you mean “air resetting mk oil dive”? This sounds important so I’m just curious.

No, j.mK against headbutts. Honda, like a handful of other characters, can’t crouch under oil dive on air reset. Same against Sagat, Dhalsim, Blanka, Gouken, Abel, Zangief, Hawk and Dudley.

[edit]This doesn’t work if you use lk or lp. They air reset differently in that case.

The hot India sun, two beefy dudes, matching pink outfits, plenty of oil…you can understand how things get out of hand.

Hakan is relatively simple to learn in terms of his playstyle and moves, but you really need to know your stuff so as not to get lit up.

Definitely one of the hardest characters to learn in Street Fighter history

… but well worth the wins, once you learn him.

Anyone know how to deal with Blankas using their electric thunder move while you’re trapped in the corner? Like it’s not touching you, but you can’t jump, command grab, or slide or you’ll get hit.

As fun and aethestically pleasing Hakan is, I can never bring myself to dedicate myself to him and get over the hump of getting all of his tools down :frowning:

It mostly depends on distance. A bunch of Hakan’s normals go right through electricity, like cr.:lk:, cr.:mk: (which combos into slide of course.) If it’s right next to you, you can EX slide it. I would just record the situation in training mode and see what works. c.:lp: xx slide might even work pretty well too.

So who’s your main character?

I main Rose. I’ve played Hakan quite a few times, especially in Super, but I always end up discouraged after a string of defeats even though I really want him to be my main/very close secondary in AE.

I am currently working on incorporating f.MP to go under near jumpins into my game more often. If you do it early enough (which isn’t that hard), you can have frame advantage when they land behind you, and then punish the next move they try to do on the ground with oiled lvl 1 focus --> combo, or, if they stop mashing moves when they land, just do EX SPD or U1. I’m pretty sure I read about this somewhere on this board and then forgot about it for a while, but I just recently “re-discovered” it; I figured I would bring it up in case anybody else doesn’t know or forgot about it. It’s quite useful, as long as you don’t try to go under dive kicks (it won’t work).

Ah okay, well keep at it, I’m sure you’ll get there.

Really loving anti air DNC, into standing jabs, its almost like a a 200+ anti air if you can hit confirm it into slide. If they do block it however, you’ve still got a shot at Oil Rocket/more pressure. Sweet stuff.

Anti air dnc is the one aspect of my game I want to improve the most, I just can’t get it cancelled into a jab as fast as I see it done in videos!

A hitbox surely beckons.

I hope you guys are enjoying fishing for counterhits and being legitly threatening with normals now. I know I sure am.

Psh, I’m inhaling it like a drug. You better be fishing for those f.:lk: & s.:mk: counter hits. Also, moving in with focus DNCs to screw up counter pokes.

Played a lot of balrogs recently. Keep space and wait for dash straights. Keep throwing out cr. mk into slide option selects. It will connect if they decide to try to dash straight you. It keeps them in check.

Any tips for getting out of corners? It seems like only thing I can do is wait for a jump to slide under or air grab. Maybe focus attack punish.

Also, if anyone would make recent match-up strategies, that’d be awesome.
