Sounds like you played pretty respectably. Also, yes, it takes little ability with Abel to beat even a good Hakan and from my experience, Honda might be even worse. Bad luck, getting those two match ups. Bummer. Hopefully, you can fight some Kens, Roses, Guys and/or Dudleys next time instead. Really, there’s a whole cast of easier opponents. Honda and Abel are awful match ups. Maybe only Guile is as bad?
If Hawk isn’t in, he can zone you out with his superior normals and make you come to him.
If you pick U2 I will just bait it with a dive at the peak of my jump.
Good Hawk’s won’t do random dives that get blocked.
Hawk beats Hakan in nearly every aspect.
lol generic “hakan sucks” post in disguise
And yeah Mordie. GA is full of Hondas and Abels, so I guess i won’t exactly suffer from lack of knowledge anymore. That being said, I was pretty off vs. the Honda, so I don’t mind too much.
I’m going to FRXIV as well, apparently, so I’ll hope to have gotten a lot better before that happens. lol
Err, no. I was saying that Hawk isn’t “free” in this match and it’s actually in Hawk’s favor.
Blazer, I really doubt you’ve played many good hakans, mainly because I know there’s pretty much no good ones.
Hawk is definitely not free, he’s got some pretty scary stuff inside, but outside of that he doesn’t have much going for him in this match up. Superior normals? Hawks s.RH is probably the only normal that stands a chance, and it’s punished with slide on reaction. Plus, if you’re really trying to keep a hakan out, he gets oiled. That’s not going to go well. Light oil is punished by dive, but only when hawk is already in the air. Basically, hawk causes a lot of trouble when he’s inside, but hawk really doesn’t have anything hugely threatening when he’s not right in your face.
I never said Hawk was free to begin with; I only said he was free if he wasn’t inside. I completely respect his oki.
As for it being in Hawks favor AND his superior normals? Um, sorry, no. I’ll leave you to what Swoops said.
What normals does Hakan have that will beat Hawk’s? And sorry, s.RH isn’t his only good normal. And I haven’t played a REALLY good Hakan, but I don’t think that you guys have played a good Hawk either. There’s only two well known Hawk’s in the USA (gridman and Hungbee). Most of the other Hawk’s are the online scrub Hawk’s.
By the way, sorry if I’m coming off like an ass, lol. If I am, it’s unintentional.
I’m inclined to nickname Hakan’s st.HP as the “Giant Choppa” because it dominates Gief’s and Hawk’s normals all day. Hawk’s only answer is st.HK, but Hakan can focus it, parry it, or even slide it. Hawk can’t even focus Hakan’s st.HP.
As Liquigen said, Hawk’s oki is scary once he gets in on Hakan, but in my experience, so is Hakan’s once he gets in on T. Hawk.
As far as credibility goes, I’ve played Hungbee. He had the same trouble with Hakan’s footsies, but had did big damage on Hakan when he got in.
It’s alright. I can’t really get mad at you; it’s Hakan, I don’t expect anyone to know anything, haha.
I really like Hawk’s forwards (s.mk and c.mk), but as Politix mentioned, s.hp does deal really well most of the pokes Hawk can offer.
If you can stick a s.rh in there to trade with our s.fp, that’ll work as well.
But yeah, Hakan does have some pretty good pokes (contrary to popular belief lol)
Yeah, I know next to nothing about Hakan. He’s a character I play against like once every 100 games. But he is hella fun to play as.
I’ll go into the lab later tonight and see what I can conjure up against the s.hp.
EDIT: Hawk’s s.hp beats Hakan’s s.hp from max range. It will either trade or be beaten at closer range. s.mp also trades (about an equal trade) and c.mp can beat it clean or trade.
just became a hakan player a couple of days ago, gettin alotta hatin for it haha, idk y people hate on em so much, hes so kool, haha. when i first started out ssf4 i mained ken cuz since day one of sf i always mained ken, but somethin made me wanna play with hakan, and i also didnt wanna be another ken, ryu, akuma player anymore, hakan is the shit haha, but im still workin on my combos and set ups for the oil slides, its tough, but then again i just started but im doin aight. WANT FEEDBACK FROM OTHER HAKAN PLAYERS!!! WOOOO!!!
Check out my Hakan Offensive Gameplan guide if you want info on his combos and such! A lot of links to good threads there too. Glad you made the switch, hope you stay a Hakan brother. :razzy:
OKay, im confused, whats happening with this matchup thread now, I don’t know whether to post here or in the new detailed match up thread, haha.
Anyway, i was wondering, if Honda whiffs a buttslam, and you’re oiled, is it a free level 1 focus towards mp combo? Or is the timing tight? If so, thats beastly
okay question the one character I am having trouble with is cammy I don’t know why if its the rushdown or just the poking but I get back into the corner and I have no were to go could I get some pointers plz.
right on man thanks, and yea I’ll check that out, haha if I’m not practicing at home, if I’m anywhere else with wifi I’m watching wildcat on youtube from my itouch
Haha, I like the way you work. Nothing more to get you inspired
I skipped Vanilla and didn’t even have an X-Box and mained T.Hawk and then Hakan almost exclusively after I bought Super with my X-Box. Recently, I’ve been playing a lot of Ken. Let me tell ya’, Ken has SO much more room for error. It’s like… oops… er… wait, that helped me. With Hakan, you screw up, you pay for it painfully. He’s really fun, though. I still can’t stop playing with him.
Some stuff about slide.
Slide has 21 frames of hitstun, when done mathematically:
? Slide fadc is -3 on block
? Unoiled dash is 20 frames
? There are 4 frames before dash after FADC
? x - 20 - 4 = -3, thus x = 21
So, slide has 21 frames of blockstun. When looked at, his normals seem decent for timing a +1 slide…
Keeping in mind that frames available post slide are around 55 (that is, for normal characters. In this example I’m using Ryu.), we can piece together a decent timing mechanism.
F.lk > Slide
18 TO 14 SU + 21 AC + 17 RE 52 TO
So, take 55 (remember, for this scenario) and subtract 18 (the f.lk). You know have 37 frames.
Then, 37 minus the startup of slide : 23.
Aight, so, 23 frames to work with. Now, slide has 21 active frames. Alright.
From this we can note a few things…
-If you do slide immediately (or 1 frame after) the f.lk, this slides active frames will run out and be punishable.
-You have to slide 3 frames after the f.lk. You’re margin of error is as follows:
2 frames - 6 frames after your f.lk.
The highest advantage possible on block from slide is +4. Thats if you hit on the very last active frame (21 (blockstun) - 17 (recovery) = 4). Then goes to 3, 2, and to 1, the goal.
Also, f.lk sets up a pretty decent safejump akin to s.mp, and it hits meaty so it cant be crouched (but crouching normal mashed).
Just some stuff.
yea since i very first ever started playing sf it was always ken for me but yea hakan is for sure soo much to play with haha
sarcasm? if so then ur just another dick on the internet, and if not then yea thats what i mainly do, just find something to help out my gameplay, whether thats watching videos, reading stuff on here or just anything, im pretty much addicted to ssf4 haha, then of course playin the actual game
