The thing with using it in footsies is that you should only use it on characters who you know like to be standing in the mid-range/close game. So like, Abel, Adon, Dictator, Guy, Hakan, Ibuki, Makoto, and Rose. There are other characters who want to be standing most of the time too but who you have to be a little more precise on. Like, if you think Akuma is gonna do standing roundhouse, then cr lp xx lk ddt is very nice, but if he’s more likely to do a sweep, it’s not worth it. It doesn’t really matter much whether they CAN duck out, what matters is whether they’re going to, and when you’re playing footsies with opponents who like to stand, that’s not very likely at all.
So far, from the matches I have experienced, Ibuki, Cody, and Dhalsim cross-ups are free. Abuse that shit.
Oil Press, st.mp whiff, late j.mk.
^ Makoto is an easy MK crossup too.
I’ve been having trouble with Dee Jay, the set-ups don’t seem to work on him. St.mk, cr.lk, none of it… But I hit the lab and came up with an awesome solution.
With Dee Jay, you have two options:
[]After an oil press, dash and meaty slide. This will go under his up-kicks reversal, but it won’t beat EX and LK sobats.
[]After an oil press, immediately jump over him and do a meaty fwd.mp. This will remove his horizontal charge, counter-hit his EX-MGU, and duck under his up-kick reversal. This will whiff against a backdash, though.
[]If you land a DDT, LK-Oil and a well timed fwd.mp will duck under up-kicks and beat out everything he has… except backdashes.
[]To punish a back dash, a late fwd.mp xx oil press on reaction, right during his backdash recovery, will beat it out.
After learning this, my plan is to always be oiled vs. Dee Jay. You can LK Oil for free from full screen. If he tries a random full-screen rh.sobat to stop it, you can sweep it on reaction.
If I ever bait an up-kick, I punish with HK DDT; EX DDT if I’m oiled. From there you lk.oil.
Fwd.mp any of his jump in attempts, it’ll beat his command knee and j.mk.
I would use U2 in this match-up. It gives him reason not to spam Aerial Slashes. Once you have U2, it will shut down his main offensive tactic, which is command knee pressure and cross-ups.
And if he’s ever dumb enough to Ultra 1 or Super close-range while you’re standing, you can Coward Crouch it, it will whiff past you, and you can punish with a late j.rh, fwd.mp xx oil slide/DDT.
Stay oily my friends.
Are you sure?
After testing, meaty slide beat all of Deejay’s options (save for ultras), including sobats. This is why I can troll on my friend Da Knut so much, just using slide > 360, or slide > air throw, lol.
Maybe my timing is off. I did Dee Jay’s reversal sobat after an oil press, maybe it’s only that specific situation where it beats it out?
Possibly. Everytime I try, I get a counterhit on Deejay’s reversal.
This is the data for his sobats, it should be correct (read: should)
LK sobat - 10 frames invulnerable to low on startup
ex sobat - 7 full invul + 4 projectile invul on startup
all sobats - have throw invul 11 frames on startup
LK Sobat may work, but against all the Deejays I’ve played (Da Knut is really damn good, too), that never seemed to work.
Hmm, then I guess meaty slides are better than I thought. What adds to that is that a Dee Jay will seldom EX-Sobat reversal. Let me rephrase my match-up info vs. Dee Jay, and thanks for the info.
Edit: Did some testing. After a HP-360, EX-Sobat seems to beat it out, and LK Sobat actually makes the slide go completely past it, but MK and RK Sobat will lose to the slide with a counter-hit. After a Oil Press, EX-Sobat and LK Sobat will beat it out, but MK and RK will still lose, counter-hit also.
Yeah. Gouken is another who is free to meaty slides. All he can do is EX flip to escape, or reversal u1. From there he has to block and anticipate from the 33/33/33 (spd/aa/bait).
Not sure about Deejay, but even if Gouken backdashes, Hakan recovers fast enough to spd, lol.
I think theres another character weak to meaty slide, but I can’t quite remember…
Gotta say, I think DeeJay is a pretty easy matchup for Hakan. I go with u2 to blow up his only interesting offensive game (jump down+short and crossup mk after knockdown), I like basically all my buttons over his in footsies and up-close pressure, and meaty slide is free (aside from ultra). If he wants to play closer, fine, I can deal with his terrible normals and slow fireball. If he wants to play farther, fine, I’ll oil up and be superman for a while. My DeeJay opponents haven’t been experts with him, but they are some of the most talented players in the country, and I definitely do well.
As for meaty slides, it’s free on a bunch of characters (again, some wakeup supers and ultras aside): DeeJay (ex upkicks whiffs over, sobat whiffs or loses, machine gun loses, backdash gets spd), Gouken (counter loses, hurricane and ex demon whiff over, backdash gets spded) Guy (ex hurricane whiffs over, backdash gets spd), Balrog (regular headbutt loses, ex headbutt whiffs over, ex dash loses, super loses, ultra loses, backdash gets spd), Dhalsim (backdash and back teleport get spd), (Fuerte (ex run loses, guacamole whiffs over, backdash either still gets hit by slide or gets spd), Rose (ex drill actually whiffs over slide, backdash gets spd), Adon (this is weird to time since you have to be just barely touching him with the end of your slide as he gets up so that his dp whiffs over, backdash gets spd), and Gen (regular upkicks lose or whiff over, ex upkicks lose or whiff over, backdash gets spd). And the list is greater when the opponent has no meter: Abel, Chun, Hakan, Ibuki, Hawk, Dictator, and Rufus.
Meaty slide is nice for getting in, but it’s really not that great once you’re in because it doesn’t actually create much of a mixup. All of Hakan’s post-slide options are throwable (oooo, except the super worthless oiled ex 360k) unless you do the slide extremely precisely so that you’re at 0 and do instant ultra or +1 or +2 frame advantage and do instant spd, ie, so that your opponents throw doesn’t have time to come out. If you time it even a frame or two wrong, you’ll get thrown. If you don’t time it super perfectly and your opponent always does throw, what are your options? Backdash out of throw and u1 or oiled spd… jump back instant lk (not safe on hit against most characters)… and throw tech. The meaty slide tactic relies strongly on your opponent not really knowing about this. I’ve had a hard time constructing meaty slides that are timed so perfectly that I can’t usually be thrown after.
At least it takes extra damage as a wake-up… yeah, pretty much worthless. Kind of irritates me, honestly.
i dont think it’s worthless if you intend to MK oil up…and it’s a good punisher(the only one that gives you a MK oil up opportunity)
don’t know where to put this…but FUCKIN capcom and the leniency.
now that i have that off my chest. Hakan is mad fun
After knocking down opponent , why do Hakan players do a whiffed normal before jumping in to cross up? What’s that all about?
helps with the timing. Still difficult for me to do, but i’m new with Hakan.
hey, i’m a bison player and i’m planning to go to a tournament here in cali soon. i’m trying to identify the options every character can use to shut down the EX Psychocrusher as a getaway option on bison’s wakeup. For example, after the knockdown, ryu has jump in OS DP, chun li can downforward roundhouse and kick from behind, and she also has an OS c.hk or s.hk upon jump in.
What are hakan’s options to beat this escape option? If you are extra generous, please let me know how you option select/straight up beat EX Devil’s reverse and teleport as well thanks a bunch in advance!
Hakan can OS Ultra 2 to beat out Devil’s Reverse, Scissors Kick, and PC, but it will lose to teleports. Hakan can also cover teleports with both Oil Dive and Slide. He can punish point blank EX-PC’s with Oil Slide. Be very careful when he has U2 on both his and your wake-up.
thanks realpolitix - it helps alot if you don’t mind, i’ll pbb post this in the bison forums as well and credit you properly. i’m sure bison forums wouldn’t mind similar questions … i think discussion like this help to raise the overall level of game.
No prob, glad I could help. :wgrin:
