Yeah I’m in the same boat right now. I know U1 has potential, but I can’t find shit to do when I’m getting rushed down. U2 is just too useful for me. Maybe as I get better at beating jump ins (with whatever other stuff Hakan has), I’ll start using U1 more. However right now U2 is a huge fucking crutch for me. I definitely need it for dealing with Fuerte’s shit, DeeJay’s retarded ass crossup shit, Akuma demon flips, etc. Great anti air plus a free Oil Shower afterwards? Yes please. I can’t even think of a match where I’d actually prefer U1.
I just like U2 because
- Against uninformed players I can it land it every round
- Against informed players I have the threat available and forcing them to not jump is a big advantage for me.
On another note, has anyone completed arcade mode with Hakan? Have you seen the last cutscene with his wife?
Bitch is HOT.
I played a good number of matches with Hakan against my friend’s Sagat. On paper this matchup is pretty bad but if you play patiently you can do surprisingly well. I like U1 in this match as I feel it’s a lot harder to land U2 against players who know what they are doing.
At the start of the match, keep your distance for a bit, if Sagat tries to rush in/jump you can do a max distance st.HP to keep him out. You can also punish poorly spaced tiger knees with st.HP. If he goes right into zoning you with tiger shots, start absorbing a few and dodging with coward crouch (down+PPP move). Inch your way forward, but stay mostly grounded as jumping over tiger shots is a recipe for disaster. Once you are within 3/4 screen of Sagat, you can pretty much slide on reaction under high tiger shots to knock him down. LK oil up and let the shenanigans begin. Once you have meter, if Sagat ends up full screen again zoning with tiger shots, it should be a lot easier to get in. EX Oil when you can. On reaction, you can FA dash forward through fireballs, and cancel the dash with a normal immediately. Use f+HK out of the dash if you are in range for it, otherwise use a light normal like cr.LK to stop a bit short. If you have a lot of meter while oiled up you can also easily EX slide any tiger shot from pretty much near full screen. If you have a big life lead you can play the turtle game. If Sagat decides to rush you down, keep him out with normals and if he does jumps at close range you can slide under him to safety. Counter with U1 if he is poking too close and not respecting your space.
In general try not to jump too much except possibly when mixing up on Sagat’s wakeup. If you train the opponent (this goes for other characters, not Sagat) to fear U1 in empty jump situations you can often catch them with Oil Dive when they jump or dash back.
I’ve still gotta figure out which normals work best on Sagat and if you can do anything about his j.MP.
Extra blanka note - a lot of times Hakan’s slide beats blanka’s roll clean, AND you still get follow up (slide grounds blanka roll as opposed to blanka flipping back)
One thing I noticed while playing against Seth is if you hit his j.HP stretchy arms with Oil Slide, he magically gets sucked in and gets the full knockdown. Might also work for Sim. Sim seems to be a ridiculously bad matchup for Hakan btw. :shake:
Yeah i seem to have the hardest time against rog. His pokes, sweep and buffalo headbut just stop me in my track. The best i’ve found is to use f+HK after sweeps but thats about it.
Whole post is good shit, especially the bolded part. I’m very reliant on U2 right now, but its nice to have options for U1. I had been looking for a way to work it into my game (along with 360+K).
I dunno, i just think U2 is infinitely more useful. You catch a few people with it and they slow down wit the jump, ins, which seem to be my biggest problem.
Not sure if its been mentioned, but I 360k’d a raging demon on reaction today. I wish I coulda seen the look on the other guys face. I cracked up when it actually worked lol.
Also, if your sitting in the corner ducking fireballs against ryu, you can forward jump one then immediately hp slide and you can hit ryu before his next fireball. I did that twice within the same match and he basically stopped throwing them.
LOL raging demon still sucks. Good stuff everyone.
I can’t say exactly which K I used, but I beat a T.Hawk’s Condor Dive with Hakan’s 360+ K the other day. He Condor Dived me on wake up, so I 360+K’d and it worked. I was kinda surprised.
I don’t have my copy of the game yet, Amazon say that it might ship May 3rd >=^[, so I can’t test to again to be more precise.
I don’t know if I am doing my job right if someone in a room just chooses Dhalsim whenever my turn comes up. I can’t get momentum and if I EX oil he walks up and uses crouching HP. Get locked out with one of the standing kicks so I can’t jump in and can only go under fireballs with EX. But its hard to get any meter.
Dhalsim is definitely one of the hardest (or the hardest?) matchups for Hakan. Unless we find some gimmick he can use, other than focus dnc, I can see this being a big problem.
I just experienced this match-up. Yea, it does seem in dhalsims favor. One thing i noticed though, st.hp beats out all of sims teleport attempts. But oil slide isn’t very useful in this match up.
What should you be looking to do against Bison? it seemed like everytime I did anything I traded or got beat but I didn’t get much of a chance to oil up.
I don’t know if you should thank me or damn me but I am making Hakan look very bad out there. I just think he’s the coolest character to look at and everybody else seems bland in comparison so he’s my main!
Anyone have advice against turtling Juri’s? Between the fireballs and that damn dive kick I can’t really seem to get in on her easily.
Get the life advantage early and just turtle back, stay full screen and fireballs arent an issue, and just block her dive kicks its a free combo every time it gets blocked.
Also the Blanka match up for us is COMPLETELY FREE, we shut down all of his moves except his electricity and even then we shouldn’t be trying to cross him over and get hit by it, i’ll upload a vid later of how free blanka is, just get a life lead and turtle theres nothing blanka can do.
This matchup is tough. What I found useful is to make sure to use j.MP into slide every time you see him jump. Just turtle it out. Bison is tough.
Juri is completely free dude.
First of all, her fireballs die out fast, so if you’re across the screen from her you can EX Oil or even HK Oil and her fireballs won’t reach you. Secondly, Ultra 2 shuts off her dive kicks. Just remember to block high and punish her pinwheels, you CAN punish them. I use c.RH or c.MK into slide. Trust me, Juri is a good matchup for Hakan.
Yeah Blanka is completely free. You can punish blocked rolls with a slide, you can Ultra 2 them, you can oil slide his electricity. Blanka’s probably the best matchup in the game for Hakan, among the characters I’ve played so far at least. Oh, you can Ultra 2 his Ultra 1 as well. Free!
one thing I did earlier on a Juri that was spamming fireballs from full screen was HK oil. then move forward while charging Focus Attack. After sliding a small bit with the Focus Attack armor to (absorb a fireball if she kept spamming.) I would feel out the situation and dash forwards or backwards out of the FA. This can easily get you in where she doesn’t want you to be.
I doubt it’ll be useful every time but it might help you out once or twice in a match. Abuse it if they’re a noob.
I usually focus absorb her fireball and cancel the dash into f.HK or f.HP
Really, forward Roundhouse is fucking good.
