As far as BN#2, I was pretty much lost through the whole issue since I’ve never read anything Aquaman in my life, but I have to say that Black Lantern Specter is incredibly lame. So far I’ve gathered that a black lantern ring must reanimate the corpse of its victim, and last time I checked the Specter has always been a spiritual, wraith-like being. And seriously…“I want Hal Jordan back!”…what the fuck was that? It seems that even the Specter entity misses ole Hal, despite the massive droves of Hal haters these days. However, I did enjoy the attempted use of fire and decapitation, proving that a black lantern cannot be exterminated through traditional zombie-disposing means.
Blackest Night #2 - Best use of Aquaman’s lame ass yellow rings (you now, that crappy sonic effect he uses to talk to fish) EVER!
:chainsaw:
So, I recently got around to reading GL #46: basically, it’s where Sinestro finally faces down Mongol, who’s been trying to usurp Sinestro as the leader of the Sinestro Corps. And all I have to say is:
Sinestro vs. Mongol
[details=Spoiler]Is it just me, or was the resolution of the battle between them completely stupid? Mongol is a guy who’s caused countless deaths and conquered worlds. Sinestro’s a single man who’s basically fucked the most powerful galactic peace-keeping force in existence multiple times over. Both have cause lots of fear.
And the best way that the comic writers can come up with for Sinestro to beat Mongol. . .is a manual, voice-activated override implanted in the yellow rings by Sinestro? Really? If that’s the case, why didn’t Sinestro pull this BEFORE he got beaten to a pulp?
The only way it could have been worse, was if there was some shounen-esque BS where Sinestro looks deep inside himself, finds the fear he needs to power his ring, and goes super-saiyan. As it was, the actual resolution wasn’t much better.[/details]
I agree. At the time, I was so hype that it finally happened, that I didn’t realize it was actually pretty lame. This fight had been in the making for quite a while and I think I was looking forward to it more than some of the other events of BN. The reason he took such a beating was because he’s an extremely arrogant individual, and wanted to defeat Mongul ring on rings. However, in the end it became necessary once he realized he couldn’t take him down. So, I suppose he went into the fight knowing he couldn’t lose? If you look at it that way, it shows what a cunning bastard he is. I’m willing to bet Tomasi had something to do with Mongul not getting totally beasted. I can’t fucking stand that character.
Getting a little confused, as of late, but maybe someone can clear something up. I’ve been reading the Blackest Night, awesome stuff so far, but how come the rings haven’t brought Bruce Wayne back to life? He is dead, right? I didn’t read the Batman RIP stuff, so I’m just assuming… What’s goin on there?
Hmmm…
wappow!
Spoiler
Bruce isn’t dead…he’s stuck in time with Steve Rogers
Gotcha.
Green Lantern Corps

KYLE RAYNER OF EARTH
RISE!!!
Green Lantern has been my favorite hero for a while and i like JUST got into comic books. anything recommended? I have no prior experience with comic books lol.
I’d try tracking down one of the earlier trades for the current volume of Green Lantern or the Green Lantern Corps.
Trying to jump into any of the current storylines right now is possible but you lose a lot and since you just are getting into comics, the amount of chaos and continuity within may be to much for you to start off with.
I was kinda in the same boat as you Kiiroe. I started with Grenn Lantern:Rebirth paperback and it was awesome. It does a good job of explaining what happened to Hal and who the other lanterns are. The first trade in the new GL series is No Fear, I just got that and so far so good.
Thank you both i will do some looking
Green Lantern and GL Corps continue to be amazing every month. In all honesty, I look forward to them much more than Blackest Night. Does anyone else feel this way? Don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed the spotlight that has been placed on Barry Allen and some of DC’s less popular heroes, like the JSA in particular. However, I think Blackest Night would have been better off as a contained event between the two GL titles. Of course, I understand why it wasn’t limited to two titles. Ironically, so far one of the main points of BN has been how helpless everyone is without Hal, as if to say, “You know, this book would really suck if you weren’t reading GL.” Actually, I think that was the mistake all those pretentious readers made from the start of BN, they only skimmed through BN#1 without reading any prior knowledge of of the prologue in GL and GL Corps, which has been building for months, and didn’t see what all the excitement was about.
Did anyone else read the Blackest Night tie in Adventure Comics #4? Pretty good Superboy Prime story that takes place in the “real” world. I don’t want to spoil any of it but you can imagine how a few deceased DCU characters might have a bone to pick with him…
I haven’t read any tie-ins, but I’d really like to read BN: JSA after seeing the cover of the first issue. It shows the original Sandman, Dr. Midnite, and Mr. Terrific battling their current heirs. The zombies are depicted in b&w while the JSA members are in color. Stranglely, Sandman and Sand are reversed. I’m just glad zombie Wesley Dodds will be more than just an extra figure in the background of a panel. Who knows maybe he’ll even have a line.
I read Blackest Night #5 & D-A-M-N!!! That was one hell of a swerve the Black Hand pulled. All I got to say is Hal Jordan & Barry Allen has their hands full vs.the Living Black Lanterns & Anti-Montior I still say will resurface
Ever since I read GL #47, I have really started to dig Atrocitus. He hasn’t reached the level of Sinestro, but he’s shaping up to be a really awesome character. Unfortunately, Ivan Reis STILL can’t draw him correctly. As far as BN #5, shit is getting crazy. I think it was a smart move to revamp Nekron, making him into such a powerful villain and integral part of this story. The comic nerd in me has always loved seeing a writer take a C-list character and showcase their untapped potential.
Not going to lie, BN#6 was some of the silliest shit I ever read, but damn if it wasn’t entertaining. Really pleased with this event (GL, GLC and BN books only, the rest of the tie-ins can burn) and how its turned out so far.
