EASILY Goldeneye 007 (n64)
It was my friends and my first experience playing multiplayer deathmatches. We played the shit out of that every day before and after school basically until Perfect Dark came out, haha.

Diablo II.

Games that really made me go “Damn… This is good. Feels good.”

Deus Ex
FF3/6
Mass Effect 1 (loved the atmosphere)
Ocarina of Time

I can’t choose, my head is about to explode with all them godlike games I’ve played
I doubt anyone can pick a single game from this list.

Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
Final Fantasy 4-10
Ocarina of Time.
Majoras Mask.
MGS3
Super Metroid
A Link to the Past.
San Andreas.

Final Fantasy Tactics.

Earthbound. I am all about club stoic and peanut cheese bars. ZOOM!

King’s Field - the perfect gaming experience.

Ya’ll leaving just lists are fuckin scrubs.

Classic DOOM. This encompasses DOOM, DOOM 2, Ultimate DOOM, Final DOOM, etc.

Fast paced run and gun FPS action the likes of which today’s FPS titles – hell, many of today’s titles period – lack. It’s like Super Mario World in pseudo 3D with lots of different Fire Flowers and a main character who runs faster than Sonic the fucking Hedgehog. Also Classic DOOM plays, in many ways, like what Shadow the Hedgehog wishes it was; speed and guns, mofo, speed and guns.

Found every secret? Nooked every cranny? Well guess what: CUSTOM LEVELS, which are still being made to this day (admittedly I need to find and re-install a good source port to play again, but I assume 2012’s WADs include some great maps). Classic DOOM is open source and thanks to that, you can nab a source port, plug your legally obtained master WAD files in (WAD is a great word), and play DOOM in whole new ways: free look, jumping, swimming, etc. Tons of custom levels take advantage of these features.

Fast paced co-op? Yup. Fast paced deathmatch? Yup.

Don’t own a PC? Have an XBox360? Play the XBLA ports. No custom levels and you have to use a gamepad over the superior keyboard and mouse, but still fast, furious fun, with easy netplay.

Classic DOOM is gameplay at its finest. It’s what I throw in the face of every MovieBob acolyte who says FPS games are inherently shitty because of their genre or that American games are shitty because they aren’t some poorly-made but animu-filled Japanese game.

Sadly, DOOM 3 is not like this. And DOOM 4 will also very likely miss the boat.

DOOM is the only FPS that I think is genuinely great.

Halflife 1 is good, up until zero grav, and rushed ending.

But Classic DOOM is great.

The genre that it and its Nazi gibbing precursor spawned, however, is, by and large, complete and utter horse shite.

Borderlands was good too.

Kind of genre bent though.

Honestly even though it’s my favorite game I do personally feel that Shenmue radically impacted my relationship with gaming.
Such an amazing and unforgettable experience…

On the top of my head, The Legacy of Kain Series (all the games, yes, including Blood Omen 2)
Why?
Well, despite all the flaws that all the games have, the other stuff on the game, makes me love it in general, and forgive them for whatever silly stuff that they happen to have.
The narrative, the voice acting, the quality of the story, the complexity of the characters, the music, the way that the world has been build, all of it manage to catch you and get you involved in many levels.

How do you feel about Castle Wolfenstein? Never played but I know it’s about as old as Doom, no?

It was the precursor I spoke of.

I give it the fact that it created the genre.

Wolfenstein 3D had good things about it. DOOM was an improvement in every way, but I still get nostalgic getting frightened by the sudden appearance of a Nazi Chest-Gun Zombie behind the door I just opened and fighting HITLER’S SITH PRIESTS. :wow:

I actually wasn’t that big a fan of Star Ocean’s battle system. It just felt like I couldn’t make the stupid partner AI do what I wanted them to do. Too many battles, I had to switch everybody around and change what I wanted them to do mid-battle. That wouldn’t have been so bad if they would do what I wanted them to do all the time. But they would just do whatever sometimes and not follow what I wanted or just not be smart.

VP2’s battle system, I felt I had more control. I did like Star Ocean, but I loved VP2 once I got the hang of it.

This hsa been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

And the fight quotes in SO? Nowhere near as awesome/epic as VP2.
