notice how many few “next gen” games make it to this thread
I get emotional when I talk about this game because this was the first game that struck a cord with me. Every single thing about R4 from the music to the art to the intro to the story line was perfect to me. Took all of the good from the 90’s and made it into a INCREDIBLE game. This is my favorite game ever.

another perfect game that I could think of is bioshock.
-great story
-interesting gameplay
-awesome voice acting
-great atmosphere
-multiple endings
and also legend of zelda skyward sword > ocarina of time.
haters gonna hate
i’d have to agree, there was something really magical about Ridge racer 4.
I dont think any other racer has come close, only bad thing about it is that its hard to go back and play psx games are so hard to go back to they dont age well, 3d i mean
Was still playing Chrono Trigger when FF7 was still the craze back in the day. God Hand is epic. Pak IGN!
Oh and Wipeout XL was broken. I remember watching Hackers and right after that, the first Wipeout came out. Then XL came out and this was right in the middle of my raver phase so I was in heaven. The best soundtrack for any game in it’s day.

Mega Man II since that game made me a Capcom fan boy to begin with. Way back when it came out, I could never imagine a video game having graphics, music and replay value like that. The ending was amazing for its time too.
I’m obviously not trying to say that it is better than every other video game that has come out in the last 30 years, but there is just something magical when you encounter something at a young age at the right time that just can’t be replicated.
Second place would go to the original Street Fighter II arcade game for the same reason.
CvS2, without roll cancel.

Legend of Zelda (NES) most impact

GTA SA (PS2) most fun
Fallout 3 (PS3) most ‘just fuckin awesome’ atmosphere
Hmm…
NES: TMNT2
Gen: Streets of Rage 1
SegaCD: Sonic CD
SNES: Chrono Trigger
PS1: Valkyrie Profile (probably played something better, just can’t think of it.)
N64: GoldenEye
PS2: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
360: Haven’t played a lot of games for the current generation, so I’m gonna put down… Bayonetta.
Arcade: Street Fighter Alpha 2
Out of all of them, I’d have to say the best one was probably San Andreas… and I didn’t really get much out of the PS2 library, but that game… man… not difficult to grasp, challenging at times, great story, great voice acting, great characters, epic soundtrack, great gameplay… this has to be one of the greatest games ever made. Never played any of the previous games or the ones after it. Sorta looking forward to GTA5, though.
My favorite Mario game… probably Super Mario 64 and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. Is it just me, or does every Mario game seem to lack in replayability? After I go through most Mario games and start over after such a long journey from reaching the climax of it, I always find it difficult to wanna go back through the game again if I missed anything. Not that I’m not up for the challenge. It’s just that when I progress with the game (like Yoshi’s Island), that’s what I feel offers the biggest reward - a sense of progression more than a sense of completion or a sense of exploration (which is limited to the timer in each stage.) But even after I’d complete everything in Super Mario World… it could be years before I’d want to pick it up again. On the other hand, if I find the Mario game difficult where progression is slow, then I’d come back to it.
Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite game of all time. The depth in the game system, the multi-layered story, the well-fleshed out characters… I still play it for iOS regularly.
You know shit got real when it was time to walk in place and that 1st battle theme started to play. That entire OST deserved to be fully orchestrated.
I really wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t already.
Resident Evil - Gamecube remake, Castlevania - Symphony of the Night, and Mario Galaxy 2.
Honorable mentions go to RE4, Castlevania - Aria of Sorrow, Castlevania 3
I dont know but magic the gathering is still the best card game ever. As for board games I still play risk

Best fighters are Third Strike, CvS2, Skullgirls, and Vsav.
Best card game is Yu-Gi-Oh. It may be a broken mess of a game, but it’s my broken mess. <3
Best Board game is Jumanji.
ATM; Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
For the completeness of the experience, amount of times I played through, and the emotional attachment I’d have to say Xenogears.
Even with Disc 2 being the mess that it was, I love Xenogears, more than any other Square RPG by far. The layers to the story and the political and religious commentary are more fascinating to me as an adult but even at the age where I did the majority of my playthroughs that aspect could still be appreciated.
Music, graphics are perfect. They set an amazing mood and atmosphere. Also, the idea that one of the main villains is actually the main character is fuckin epic and was a total mindfuck when I realized it.
A couple honorable mentions to: Snake Eater, Suikoden 2 and Castlevania: SotN
There are so many amazing things to choose from…so I’ll seperate it by my favorite current gen games and old gen games.
Current gen games, it would have to be a tie between Fallout 3, Borderlands 2, and Asura’s Wrath.
Old gen, it’d have to be between Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Battletoads, and CVS2.
So many good games in this thread…you guys are makin’ me wanna play all of these things. x_x
Half-Life. It was the first 3D shooter I ever played, and also it got me hooked onto multiplayer gaming. The game had the greatest replay value since the mod community was one of the largest ever for a game. If I got bored of one mod, I’d just play another and have a lot of choices (e.g Team Fortress Classic, Counter-strike, Day of Defeat, Natural Selection, etc.).
