The Greatest Videogame You've Ever Played

Mine is an old PS1 game called Hogs of War.
It is pretty obscure but it is awesome, think World War 2 but with pigs, that’s pretty much what it is

If we’re limiting this to RPGs, it’s a dead heat for me between Final Fantasy 6 and Phantasy Star IV. The former for its amazing characters, soundtrack, and story… and for giving you character building options you’re unlikely to get a full grasp of on a blind run; the latter for its similarly amazing characters, soundtrack, and story… and for being fairly challenging on a blind run while giving you unique characters whose strengths and weaknesses you must consider.

Run-on sentences for the win.

Both games are part of series I feel have very few stellar examples of games/stories.

EDIT - Chrono Trigger is overrated as shit. Fun as hell, but overrated.

Really? Because the more I think about the time I spent with the three mainline PS1 FF games, I keep leaning towards FF9 being the best. I’m one of those guys who fucking loves FF7, but man, FF9 is God tier. I guess it has to do with the fact that it takes a lot of inspiration from the older games, sometimes even music(there are a lot of FFIV tracks in 9, although remixed slightly.)

How the fuck do you try and gas yourself, then slit your wrist only to jump off a building later?

Well whatever, if Yukiko Okada was still alive I would have listened to her rendition this song from one of my favorite games of all time.

But as far as a game I would KILL to play again?

Lets just say I would love to welcome ya’ll to the D & D world.

why snes had some of the best rpgs ever. The music gives me such a hard on

After thinking about it, and deciding not to account for nostalgia and memory decay…

I’m going to have to go with Morrowind.

Now, I don’t have any really huge urge to go out and play it, but it really changed the way I feel about games. I’m pretty sure it killed my love of final fantasy.
I mean, it just had so many eye opening moments and experiences for me.

“oh, I can just choose the skills I want and make a class that suits me? That’s cool”
“Wow…these people sure have a lot to say…I can just keep clicking and clicking and they bring up stuff I’m sure I don’t even need to know”
“So what…I’m just supposed to go fuck off and find my way to town? That’s it? No arrows…no broken bridges mysteriously cutting me off from the other half of the map?”
“Ok…I am headed in the completely wrong direction, I can’t believe I’m getting lost”
“Crap I’m going to die because I can’t hit this bird thing…oh the town! Save me town guards! Holy shit! They’re actually saving me!”
“So wait…all of the shop keeper’s inventory is just LAYING out in the open…like a real store? And I can just…take it?”
“Oh I guess that’s why they have guards in every store for a reason…wait…you can go to jail?”
“Man…there are a lot of quests…like…I don’t even want to join this temple…but the idea of going on a pilgrimage to gain entrance is pretty cool”
“Holy shit I just broke into a place and now I am jumping roof top to roof top, I am straight ninja”
“So I finally found that guy I need to talk…I wonder what happens if I attack him…seriously? You can break the main story? wow that’s hardcore”

Marvel 2

Also lmao at you guys posting 30 games and shit when the OP title is Greatest Video GAME not games. wtf yo.

This is GD.

We know no limits.

Sent from my thumbs, using SRK technology.

Guardian Heroes. Not the remake, not the piece of shit sequel on GBA.

I LOVE YOU

FFTactics, the original. With ALL the lag.

my most notable game experiences (at that time):

Super Mario Brothers 3 (NES) in 1990\91,
FF7 (PSX) in 1997,
Metal Gear Solid (PSX) in 1998,
Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) in 1999,
Outcast (PC) in 1999,
NieR (PS3) in 2010,

<3 the 90s… where not 7/10 games were shooter mash ups and plenty of good games to choose from. today is just… bland and mediocre through and through.

You mean Clover. :sunglasses:

hey, Hey, HEY MAN

Hey, just…hey.

So what?

BET YOU DIN’T KNOW CHESS WAS ACTUALLY CREATED THE FIRST TIME CRONO AND FROG DID X-STRIKE, YEAH, TIME TRAVEL

Ugh, can’t pick just one:

-3rd Strike, shut up I love fighters.
-Castlevania, specifically 1, 4, Rondo and SOTN.
-FF 7 and 9.
-Mario 3.
-A majority of the Mega Man series.
-Persona 3, I love this game so much right now.
-Secret of Mana, one of my all time faves.

I wonder if anyone in this thread has mentioned Einhander?

The original didn’t lag. … At least I don’t remember it lagging.

The PSP version with the superior translation and great VAs had visual lag that desynced with sound effects and Square refused to fix it because fuck Square.

Brilliant.

Thank you, I start to mimmick angelpalm when I’m tipsy, I think we all know what he does when he’s on here now.

You don’t remember it lagging. :coffee:
