The Greatest Videogame You've Ever Played

8’s Junction was amazing… And the active shit, like triggering the gunblade was awesome too.
The story though…

For RPGs: Lunar, PS1. Growing up with games like Mario and Zelda, there was always this thing that irked me: You had to save the princess, but who the fuck was this princess character? I mean, yes I know she meant something to the character, but I had no idea about the history. I saw no motivation from the character, no real reason to rescue her, no motive by the villain, nothing. It was no different than pressing buttons to receive bacon.

For Lunar, they actually explained the whole history and motivation. The game actually felt like I was progressing through a story instead of just plowing through levels for the sake of plowing through levels (although some were pretty silly). Brainwashing a dude’s girl/sister and slapping some kinky clothes on her to taunt you was kind of o_O for me back then and I found that more motivating for killing the boss instead of the save the world idea.

Another reason that I liked Lunar was that it was difficult. There were some trash mobs that you could probably get away with grinding spells on them, but if the level was long enough and you didn’t have a statue nearby, your mana management would kind of screw you (especially the part where you could not use items).

Non RPG I have to say metal gear solid, ESPECIALLY with all those random wtf moments. “Turn the box around for the frequency”. Do you have any idea how many boxes I tossed around in that game before my friend took the game box and turned it around for me?

Super Mario World

the max payne games always have a special place in my heart for being so well coded that they always ran on whatever hardware I threw at it without ever crashing or needing patches or fixes. Even when I had legitimate hardware problems that made other PC games unplayable, max payne 1 and 2 always ran without a crash…

Then MP3 came out and I got it for PS3 :shake: I disappointed myself

tobal 2

pepsi man

the squall is dead theory changes everything. It makes the story from wtf, to fucking godlike.

And i still maintain that Phantasy Star IV is the better than all of them.

The story, the macro system, the characters, different planets!!! so gdlk!!!

pfft no it’s just bad. Shitty character design (i guess auron is ok), shitty overal coloring, soundtrack was mediocre, and worst of all the narrative voice in which it was told was horrid.
there were something i did like about the game though like sphere grid was kinda cool but was improved in 12 with the licence board, and my favorite part was getting to the credits.

FF8 totally blow FFX out of the water and this isn’t nostalgia talking i barely played 8 like a year ago.

you know what would make FF great again?..wordless cutscenes

I wouldn’t think anything about 8 would be because of nostalgia. I stand by my comment.

I never heard that theory, but reflecting back, it would… hmm

PS4 is amazing. You win.

I still stand by FF8 being shitty. Fuck that game.

So was 2.

:coffee:

Rolf, Rudo, Kain, and Amy/Anna so godlike.

And Parma gets blown the fuck up.

So crazy good.

I’ve never played any of the PS games…

I gush about this game a lot, but it would have to be Okami. I love that game so much. I recently played through it again last year and was blown away again at how good the game was. I’ve never played a game that has emotionally touched me like this one; the scene before the final boss is so touching, and combined with the music, pretty much makes me cry manly tears every time. The only faults I would give the game would be that like two of the minigames can be a bit frustrating, but that’s it.

Man… this was when Capcom was a good company too. lol @ Capcom now.

i didn’t say you specific but for any one who would think to counter argue with it.

Get on 'dat Sonic Collection, mang.

For REAL.

There is so much great stuff on that disc, it isn’t even funny.

The only true hole in its lineup is the distinct lack of Revenge of Shinobi.

I find that people either jump all over 8 and that’s the nostalgic PSX FF game, or they jump on 7 and do the same.
I’ve rarely met people that like both of them as equals.

Sonic 1 changed my LIFE.

which version?
ps2 or wii?
yes there’s a difference.
also, the only thing i didn’t like about okami was that there wasn’t a post-game after completion. it woulda been nice to traverse the world looking for post-game hidden god-tier bosses like in other rpgs. minor gripe…but still a gripe nonetheless.
oops. i forgot the other gripe i had with the game.
no reward for finding and blooming all the clovers.
yeah you gain exp for bloomin em…but i want something sparkly like a ridiculously overpowered weapon if i’m gonna go through the time & trouble of blooming each and every one of those fuckers.

that is all.

Star Fox 64

I said my first curse word to Slippy when he thought it funny to get hit by that boss and land on that god-foresaken desert planet where I had to use that shitty tank. The game also helped my execution as after that I did a 360 motion and promptly left the room.

PS2 version. Game was a day one buy for me.
