The Good But Generally Bad Police Thread

Reading the link Rock put up from wikipedia, someone on PCP broke out of handcuffs using brute force. :amazed:

Yeah, I youtubed that one too. Dude did a Falcon punch through a solid wooden fence. And dude was fucking BUILT. It took 8 cops to bring him down. Pepper spray didn’t do shit.

White people don’t do that? To be fair though if it was a dude locked in a house high on meth ranting about the government coming after him he’s probably white.

Oh, I wasn’t saying that only black dudes use PCP, but if you go on youtube, almost all of the videos are of black dudes rolling on the ground naked.

Also, PCP is about the scariest sounding drug ever. The Straight Dope: Does PCP turn people into cannibals?

They get naked, too, but they just run around and act they’re back in college, like ya boy , or they just act really stoned. Brothers turn into lesser versions of the Incredible Hulk…but the clothes don’t seem to survive the transformation. Maybe it hits those with higher testosterone in more violent ways, I dunno.

Generally speaking if a cop gets called to a situation where an individual is naked and acting in an agressive manner they will assume the person is on PCP because way more often than not its going to be true. As others have said when you’re on PCP you don’t feel pain at all. You are a lot stronger than you normally are and can do things you normally wouldn’t because the pain would keep you from doing it. Examples would be kicking open the back door of a police car and running away on a broken leg, breaking out of handcuffs, sliding down a telephone pole fully naked, taking down multiple police officers armed iwth riot gear. Typically it will take 5+ officers to take down an average person on PCP and thats basically one officer grabbing a limb and you’re still not guaranteed of anything. PCP basically turns you into Ip Man. And yes tasers don’t work on a duster. Shooting them in the leg won’t really work either I mean they can run away on a broken leg do you think shooting them in the leg will do much?

I thought tasers send electrical currents that essentially shut down your nervous system, causing your body to momentarily rigor and stiffen.

Man, can you see the shit that would be said in a police report if one of us was hopped up on Starman?

“At that point, the suspect became beligerent, and leaped at Officer Harris, punching and kicking her at least 7 times before landing, while yelling ‘I’m so PRINGLES!!’ and ‘Where dat Mango Sent?’…he then grabbed a towel and apparently tried to give himself a friction burn.”

You seem to have missed it: pcp…roll-cancels…dat…ish. You become as broken as the most powerful mugen character.

For as long as they hold down the trigger, that’s what it does. I’m not doubting the strength/lack of pain individuals gain by doing pcp. However, doing pcp does not rewire the human nervous system to just let electrical current pass freely through without causing gridlock of the muscles.

You get hopped up on whatever and shit doesn’t work like it once did. Plus a fair amount of “non lethal” items are mostly bullshit. The actual amount of current or whatever to restrain someone that’s seriously lost it, would kill a lot of people, so any sort of less than lethal force amounts to fuck all so the department doesn’t get sued into the ground when they tase your crazy uncle and he gets a heart attack.

no, the point is it doesn’t matter if he was on PCP or not. what matters is that the suspect was obviously showing signs of being under the influence of some sort of substance and you should treat them as if they are under the worst possible drug and not that they had too much sody pop and they’re on a caffeine buzz. some people like to believe that cops are racist pigs but do nothing but plot against black youths all day but the truth is a lot of cops put their lives on the line everyday and if their mindset is to try to use the least possible force to apprehend someone then they are putting themselves in serious danger.

That’s probably the problem, maybe it’s because the US has such a big gun culture that that sort of mentality is ingrained into an officer, but the guy was naked. What happened to greatest danger is to the individual is themselves. They wrestled with him at one point, there is no way he pinning two of them down at the same time, so one of them should have been able to taser him. All reports (although incomplete) so far still suggest excessive force was used.

People are like “Why couldn’t they just shoot him in the leg?” don’t realize you can easily die from a shot in the leg. You have something called the femoral artery in your leg. You can bleed to death in under a MINUTE if that sucker gets punctured. Hell, we don’t know that they DIDN’T shoot him in the leg. Shooting someone anywhere is serious business.

SOOOOO TRUUUUEEEEE

In firearms training you’re told never to point a gun at something unless you are willing to kill it. The end. The use of a gun is always considered lethal force and even if you shoot them in a limb you could kill them or cripple them for life. Once a gun is fired it’s for keeps.

what does his state of undress have to do with what substances he can be on? you don’t know what he’s on and what he’s capable of. didn’t you read the links or look at the video? if someone is powered up on something you need to take them down ASAP. it only takes one time to permanently hurt or kill a cop. I’ve had a friend die from a fight where he didn’t even take a strike. he wrestled with another man and hit his head on the concrete. it wasn’t some long struggle, it happened in an instant. I also have a friend who recently joined the NYPD and he works in the subways and in his short time he has already been in some situations that could have very easily turned out very bad for him. if you’re a cop and you’re put in these situations frequently you’re not gonna be like, oh i have to gently wrestle this guy to the ground and cuff him. you will get injured or worse with that mentality.

Isn’t it racist as shit to assume that because I black man was killed by police, that it was an act of racism?

It’s tough to make a judgment call as to whether or not they had to shoot him if you weren’t there. When looking at the statements it’s easy to say “You could have done X instead of Y” but it’s not the same as when the officers are under pressure trying to apprehend someone who’s losing their mind.

That being said, my respect for cops has dropped so low after the G20 here in my hometown that I have trouble believing a damn thing they say (and I always used to give them the benefit of the doubt). It’s most likely that he was being violent like so many other criminals but the rookie decided to shoot him instead of actually trying to subdue him (or just tazer him to death like the manual says).

This is kinda absurd. Cops don’t get to make the rules and they don’t have very much power in terms of what actually happens. They are governed by stricter rules than we are.

Like it or not we end up with the police force we want and demand that follows rules that we have set out for them.

Want less arrests, stop prosecuting people for drugs. Want a less violent police force, stop asking them to get involved when some idiot guns someone down in a slum.

The cops are nothing more than an item we created in a serious of knee jerk reactions to bullshit like drugs or another person getting gunned down in the street.

The cops work for us.
