Honestly, it depends on where you are. I spent the first 28 years of my life in Virginia and I worked a job way out in the western part of the state. Near WV and Tennessee. It felt like I was in 1955 man. Same state, completely different vibe.
I will say this as politely as possible. . .
What the hell does this have to do with any of it? He was killed because two yahoos didn’t like what they saw, accosted him, and shot him dead.
That’s murder.
I don’t mind an honest conversation, but to assert that he was killed because of something that was done years ago and had a smart mouth when getting pressed by two men AT GUN POINT FOR NO REAL REASON is mind numbing.
Ok sooo…where’s the proof of intent? Where’s the racism in this case? None of you proved anything except your need to appeal to emotion.
Facts…where are they?
Facts? where are they?
Since ya’ll are arguing about racial issues that is the reason for the comparison. Both have’t displayed Intent.
Nothing to do with this argument I am making.
Look both you and @HD-Man are talking about the larger issue of racism in the south but you’re not widening the scope of this one issue. I am talking about THIS ONE ISSUE. Was the N word said by them? have these two former cops been proven to be any members of the KKK? I haven’t seen any of that.
I don’t assume racial issues in each story involving a Black man’s death because I need to look at all evidence first. to make assumptions is to ignore factual issues. You twist words too and you know it because it fits your worldview. If you take time to look at it, you’ll see in this case what happened.
It’s PART of the reason, Rather than say “oh I brought a loaded gun to school, I shouldn’t do that” he continued on to stealing a TV years ago. Instead of stopping and just minding his own business, he went into an unfinished building but why? he did it multiple times.
In my response, I did not mention race.
Chased down a black man to mete our justice, ends up killing the dude, no arrests or investigation until after video is released to the public.
Yeah no racism. We’ll also ignore the offenders social media where they regularly spewed racist nonsense too.
The ignorant bubble you choose to place yourself in must be really nice. Had a black out right killed some white dude for a citizen’s arrest, he’d be dead or in jail the same day.
When you start to lose an argument, insults are all you have left. Call me ignorant on this but in this specific case, the fault lies on poor law enforcement. Unless new evidence appears, not race to me.
The way you’re ignoring all evidence presented this far, you wouldn’t change your opinion even if they confessed on video to killing him because he’s black. The cognitive dissonance is astounding with you, bro
It’d straight be a rap if a dark skinned brotha with dreads tried to pull a citizen’s arrest in this environment. Akin to suicide.
We get shot in our own homes or unarmed. White folk get to gun us down in broad daylight with no investigation. Sure innocent until proven guilty, but no investigation whatsoever? Lmao yeah no racism here. Normal everyday life if you’re skin tone allows it.
What evidence? haven’t seen you post anything
and the abridged ver. based on all the video.
Look I have stated that Ahmaud didn’t deserve to die this way and that those guys messed up. I just don’t see any evidence that the two were racially charged. That is all. If you have no intention of watching the long videos (which do a great job going over everything), then that is on you.
I don’t recall insulting you. You always have this innocent unprejudiced lens you view these issues through.
Ignorance is bliss and you personify that with an acute accuracy.
Call me ignorant on this but in this specific case, the fault lies on poor law enforcement.
They’re at fault too and race is the reason why the situation played out the way it did.
This is again what the issue is. Regardless of the circumstance, the fact that you said this was what ended up getting him killed despite the fact that these two guys again questioned why he was there, accosted him, and shot him dead in cold blood.
You say it’s innocent but to perceive things as rational and as objectively as possible, I have to put aside bias and look at everything first before I make a call on such a thing. The problem is trying to maintain that view without others force feeding you a side to take early on based on emotional reactions.
Calling me ignorant is a type of insult but I don’t care if you do because my point was labeling someone something like ignorant is to me showing you losing an argument.
One of the two did an investigation of his own (as he was a former cop) and saw Ahmaud’s past so by that logic is what caused them to go in pursuit of him.
I don’t see how his past has anything to do with them approaching him with loaded guns.
That’s a threat in and of itself.
Nothing will ever change your mind when it’s about racism. Your stance of remaining unbiased is simply being painfully unaware of the reality people actually face or outright ignoring it.
Not a losing argument. Just acknowledging your bubble, what you believe will never change unless you experience it yourself.
I’m trying to comprehend your take on this situation. It’s why I asked the question. I am trying see how you’ve have reached your conclusion on the situation. The way I try to do so is to try to see where the person with the opposing view is coming from. Sometimes I’m able to do so, but in this in case I can’t comprehend your stance on the situation. Thus the question.
From my personal experience, people outside of the South often have no idea how things are here. Worked with a white guy from California as a teenager. When me and my older black co-worker were talking to him about how things are in Virginia, he thought we were kidding. He comes back the next day in utter disbelief and flat out asks the both of us “How do you deal with this? Doesn’t this bother you?” To which we both said were used to it. He couldn’t comprehend things until he looked into himself and saw we weren’t BSing him.
As it stands, we have two armed men in a pick up chasing down an unarmed man and killing him. They claim that he was the aggressor and that it was self defense. Yet they initiated the conflict, even in the video snippet, you see the victim run around the truck to avoid them and they press the issue. Despite video evidence of the situation, no charges where pressed. Under further examination, there wasn’t any breaks in at the property in question per the owner and nothing was stolen. This case was buried and if not for the video there would have been no charges pressed. What explanation can you offer for this chain of events?
Former is the operative word
Given the video, they were appropriately charged. So again
What does this have to do with them killing him?
Being that were former cops, I can make an argument that it’s what they had for protection as the record shows Ahmaud has held guns in concealment before. I mean if I am to citizens arrest someone, I would be foolish to go in without SOMETHING to protect myself…not that I feel confident doing so.
Actually It did change because I used to think Whitey was out to get me. I started reading that I was wrong and while I have had my small share of racial issues, I never make assumptions anymore. Why? Because to change the culture, it starts with you. If I cannot change myself and my thought process, how can I change someone else’s? If I ever have kids one day, I would teach them this. Always look at the facts. People make bad choices when they’re emotionally charged but you need to be stronger than that. people will judge you on your skin color but you need to be better than that.
One of the many who say white privilege does not exist
But eh. He is going every which way to defend the killing…
you’re getting off topic and not helping with your passive aggressive attitude.
The reason I didn’t see a need to answer is, where I come from would mean you would then reinforce a bias that I have had thrown at me before in other ways “You wouldn’t know cause you’re not X.” I believe that the south has race issues obviously. My community was mostly white then became Asian. I’m still part of the few non Indian browns here. I have gotten strange looks at boba shops because I’m not asian and my GF is and she has gotten looks and insults growing up in her are which was mostly Hispanic/white. I still don’t use my personal experience to set up a viewpoint because it creates a bias.
I get everything you’re saying but until I see that piece of evidence that shows these two men were thinking in that moment of staking out/pursuit “i’m stopping this N word today,” then how can I be convinced?
here is where you didn’t point out that Ahmaud reached and grabbed the gun. That detail is where things got bad. If I reach for your weapon after you told me to stop, what do you think may happen?
Hey you are trying to find excuses as to why it is fine an unarmed innocent man got lynched
You are using the “he was no saint” argument as if the two guys were justified…
