The General Dragon Ball FighterZ Thread v2 (Saiyan Certified)

I already found a replacement character for him on my Yamcha team… now I gotta find a replacement for him on my Nappa team FeelsBadMan

ArcSys has a history of waiting until after the big tournaments before they roll out huge changes. I mean, they literally announced a balance patch two minutes after an EVO grand final a few years back.

At least that’s what I assume happened here. If those are the only changes, that’s some weaksauce changes.

Will ToD combos still be available after this patch?

It definitely will still be a thing. The changes don’t really drastically affect ToD stuff excluding specific infinite combos (from A21 for example).

There WON’T be a later if people lose interest. If people sell their physical game or another game gains their attention, that could be the end.

"The directors said that they want to “preserve” characters unique traits and abilities, while making adjustments to add variety of competitively played characters.”

All they had to do was make A16 a traditional grappler (slower)

limiting movement options like Super Dash Vanish by making SD only home in on the last position the opponent was at at the first forward-moving frame of the dash. Vanish costing two bars, so no more abuse. Both are negative (but not punishable) on block (like -2).

To compensate for nerfed SD and Vanish, everyone gets multiple hard knockdowns and specials with better extension properties.

ALL Bigger characters (Broly, Nappa, M. Buu, Cell, etc.) should be slower in movement by default (each of them with their own unique speed as well). The homogenization is ridiculous.

It’s Dragon Ball. It’s not really going to go anywhere unless they outright botch the game via legal reasons and completely destroy the balance in the game (which isn’t necessarily the case now, despite the questionable patch changes especially in A16’s case).

As for general consumers, they will still support it.

An average of 4-6 characters showing up on teams at Evo with a game consisting of 26+ characters isn’t an issue?
It’s premeditated Seppuku. Evo is over 2 months away and this game is barely 3 months old. There’s NOTHING to be safe about. Fix the balance and foundation now.

The “general” consumer has gone back to Xenoverse because this game only produces versions of Goku and Vegeta and DB is MORE than just G or V. This is a fighting game that’s supposed to be competitive not Barbie dress-up/Goku-Vegeta cosplay.

Really tho?

the general consumer has moved on from fighter Z to the new AAA release of the month/semester. And that’s for pretty much every game.

As for the 16 debate, last 2 month there was max 1 16 in top 8’s in major/locals with heavy hitters. He took the brunt of the hatred mostly because he’s a matchup that need to be specifically trained a bit instead of “general” saiyan pressure. S’ok tho, every game has a char like that, his nerf is big but hey, for people like me that main/mained him, never settle on a final team before season 1 DLC is fully done anyway ^^.

They fixed the scaling hitstun glitch before it became a BIG issue (it was starting to get serious traction, and that possibly could have been the vanilla mvc3 DHC glitch situation).

As for “waiting for tourney results”. Well this patch look like it was mostly made for placating to the errrr more vocal playerbase than a reflection on balancing. Wich is ok. Playerbase still good, still finding matches.

Well you guys still saying “arc sys” but it’s really bamco’s decision for the patches planning/ordered and such. And i dont know if it’s bamco “serious e-sport fg” that’s handling that or “bamco animuuu naruto ultimate hero academia bougha bougha tempest team”. If someone has info on that i’d love to know more.

So now that 16’s Vortex is gone, what now? What are the character’s strengths that he needs to rely on instead of Hard Knockdowns?

Simple.

Switch characters (unless you really love the character).

Oh you mentioned what are his strengths?

His best strength is the player’s ability to switch characters.

Realistically I guess the good things are his armored Heavy attacks, good buttons, being able to delay cancel attacks into CMD grab as a viable mixup, below-average IAD mixup game, assist that blocks the offensive character slightly… that’s about it? Oh and a low 2L (imo specific characters lose a lot of potential if they lack a fast low attack in the long run)

Basically now that people have the ability to always uptech he cannot really maintain pressure because of his biggest weakness in neutral.

He cant force a air-ground blockstring on a opponent who’s blocking high. And the tech window make it that he cannot even punish a predicted uptech with his anti-air grab.

Most of the cast can jMjH on a airborn opp forcing them to land and keep on the blocking the grounded blockstring. 16 cannot. His jH dash forward make it punishable even in the corner. his j2H is like -5 or something and doesnt get the landing frame advantage.

his jM just doesnt do enough blockstun.

His strength are now a very good range 5L poke, a good armored dash 5H but cannot punish through beam assist like before :/.

As for his pressure. Well same weakness as ever before, everything he end a blockstring with is punishable.

5H is -8 so you can jab him
2H can be 2H’ed after block or superdashed
5S deflect into jab etc…
214S : straight jab punish during those 29f startup OR deflect and punish
236S : deflect and punish (or raw lvl 3).
214 L/M superdash punish.
236M : jab during the 29f startup.

and now he cannot use his best defensive option that was deflect into 5H if the opp on deflect press 5S ('cept for maybe nappa and agohan).

Unless when they say removed projectile invincibility they dont mean armor but the deflect on S projectile that was built in (like as they deal their damage but are still armored through).

Nappa 5H is similar to 16’s, only without armor, and it’s still pretty good. So 16’s neutral probably wasn’t too borked.

thats literally fighting games on pc who the fuck cares.

thats like 5% of the player base.

fighting games on pc are the most laughable thing on this earth.

The bulk of them should be dead due to " Fixed an issue where scaling that should have been applied to non-recovery frame to prevent a combo loop isn’t applied when starting a combo with certain moves"

They absolutely got the one guy who could mildly understand english in the office to write these patch notes though.

Not sure wtf that’s actually supposed to mean though.

A16 strengths as he is now? Likely the best set of AAs in the game (a good 2H, along with 5H, jH, 5L and DUNK), still has a built-in mix-up in his autocombo, still has armored normals to fuck people up, is one of the few characters with an actual command grab (a shitty one, but good by the standards of this game), his assist is above average, still gets SCARY setups after a lv3.

He’s not a clear-cut top tier anymore, and he’s unquestionably the character that got hit hardest in this patch because taking away his 236L HKDs made him really meter hungry. Still, people are underselling this guy as hell, I suspect he’ll still be one of the stronger characters. You probably won’t see much of him at top level since everyone that’s not top 5 or Vegeta hardly gets picked, that much is true, but he wasn’t that popular in the first place.

You got any way to track numbers of people still playing on psn and xbox?

PC used to have the shitty delayed release awfull port but there still was a market (hence the now simulcast releases and such.). It’s 2018 pc gaming has really encroached and i dont see why FG wouldnt follow the same trend.

So is there a steamchart equivalent for ps4 and xboxLive ?
