The Gem System Thread

Very very great possibility loading screen will tell you all the gems you and opponent has. Or even, you know…you can just see them select the gems they’re selecting. What you’re saying almost guaranteed won’t even be a problem.

If there are Gems that you absolutely must pay money for, they’d better be worthless as hell.
Pay2Win is the worst thing that can ever happen to a competitive game.

Nah, you should hope for it so that scrubs will be forced to do a reversal anytime they have meter. That way you can punish them for having meter. They’d pretty much become saltiness incarnate.

but lets be real who in the world is gonna waste a gem slot to tech a throw when throw ranges are garbage?
Who in the world is gonna use an auto block gem when you can tech roll when knocked down and alpha counter block strings?
I rather use a gem to give me extra meter bar for longer combos

In the midst of all of this panicking, I’ve watched the NYCC trailer again and it seems to indicate that these gems are only going to come into play during mirror matches. Basically it’s Capcom’s way of adding a little spice to Ryu vs Ryu or Bob vs Bob (Bob vs Bob final at EVO this year killed Tekken 6’s hype dead IMO).

So…did Seth say that you could use these in non-mirrors too, or did one person jump the gun and everyone go nuts?

Somebody tell me that these gems are optional. I like the gem concept, but I’d like the option to play online against other people without the gimmicks.

Ya know I’ve got to say, its really funny seeing you complain about Gems when you play League of Legends.

Yeah, I think there’s a lot of overreaction going on over this gem system. All it seems like to me is added strategy, kind of like how you’d pick a certain assist to make your point character more effective in Marvel. I’m just gonna roll with it and see how it plays out.

The worst case scenario would be if equipping gems was required to play the game, and competitive players started complaining at tournaments because they built a whole strategy around a pre-order only gem that the TO isn’t going to be able to download.

I was thinking the same thing.

So far we have like, no info on these fucking things aside from really vague details, I think it could be a ton of fun, so I’m going to hold off on the hate until I get to fuck with them or unril we get a full rundown on them.

This should be optional, and locking gems behind preorders pretty much tells you it’s not tourny minded. Still I like the concept, even though I hated how it worked in SC4 (great stats if you wanna look like an idiot).

Perks have made their way back into fighting games. I’m having a good weekend.

I get the feeling that this is just going to get relegated to casual play/side tourney silliness.

How about not having a ton of sub-systems and just focusing on making sure the characters are somewhat balanced but unique and fun, and making sure the game as a whole doesn’t overly reward turtling or mindless rushdown? Or making sure the online play is good enough for non-Japan countries? No? Ok.

Has gem count been finalized? I like 3 slots more than 5.

But duck that would be making progress and we don’t want that. /sarcasm

Although it seems the dev team look at past capcom fighters that had extra mods for messing around and went hey let’s make that part of main game system. I mean cross assault looks like alpha 3 dramatic battle. Still i did not mind cross assault but the gem system too much. I would not mind it if say it was a side mode like how umvc3 new mode is.

Still i wait to see how things turn out but right now i am not a big fan of the gem mode.
