The Gem System Thread

I can say at this point the Gem concerns me quite a bit less than multiple people saying nonsense things that just require basic knowledge to figure out. I don’t give a fuck honestly what Capcom does in the end, and I’ve repeatedly said I’m speaking in terms of how we theorize (reasonably) the gem to work. One person I disagreed with accepted this possible theory and continued to repeat nonsense. This is frustrating and I can’t resist.

“but meter is important” isn’t enough. The only way I would prefer meter is if it gave me more of an advantage than a free (just so someone doesn’t go crazy, free in the sense that my guess wasn’t required) block. This advantage would have to be *unreasonably gigantic, *and I mean fucking huge. Saying “you don’t know” is weak, so what if I don’t know? Take some things for granted then and lets discuss Gems in the Gem System thread.

Hm that’s a good point, how would it function on a technical level. Would it decide on the frame or could, unlikely, could I walk forward with jabs to lock you down periodically. I can’t imagine its the latter, but if it is…

Unless I’m mistaken isn’t this also a jump? Will it block for you if you’re just capable of doing so i.e walking forward? With 3 bars could I weak-sauce MK walk you into the corner? The other thing that…hm, doesn’t bug me but is kinda iffy. Does it block sidexsides mixsups? Even SF4 has a few ambiguous air mixes and quite a few ground based ones. Given TxSFs free form combo system wouldn’t it be natural to assume a load of resets are gonna come out of this? AutoBlock would assist in defending against those too, which I’d consider a good thing honestly. The thing is while stray moves do hit players from time to time, its hard to says that’s a waste of a meter in a HC game. Case in point is weskers c.M. If it hits you can bet there’s a combo coming.

Finally people who say blocking doesn’t win battles. Please stop. Blocking is very definitely half of the fight. K? Try it sometime.

Gems r for little boys and kiddies.

I want to play a real man’s game…

Hopefully they’ll learn from MvC1 and have a very short time period to pick your assist(gems in this case) after you pick your fighters. If you know the short cut for the particular gem, you can input the command to use it. Otherwise, just have a generous few of gems, along with the option to have a ‘random gem select’.

Confirmed: You do not have to select gems.

The bitching can FINALLY stop. You can all look forward to the game you were looking forward to before gems were officially introduced.

whew…

I hope not!!! that’s what made the game different & better in so many ways!!!Fk**, I want a speed gem on Gief, tired of my walk speed!! i want that attack boost on my character’s shi**ty dmg by default!! Dammit u guys r fools!!

You can play with them if you want. Seriously… all you do is bitch about opinions different than yours. Chill out, kiddo.

I’d rather have a solid game, than a “different” one - not everything that is “different” is good, you know - and Gems by themselves are more gimmicky than anything.

(and where is my “dislike” button?)

actually NO DICE…I really hope TO’s do not ban gems fucking stupid idea, we still need to see how it functions etc. etc.

Gems is a great idea for this game

I was trolling like a mad man about gief and stuff…lol i dont even use this character …yeah dont call me kiddo either…

Gems are not gimmickly they are game altering type of things for mup’s etc. etc. ur crazy to say their useless gimmicks

think about it, take Gief for instance, why would a Gief player want always to have slow speed always, when for a time be faster due to gems so he can get in there…gems are the sh*t

theres always the option to uh, make that a different mode.Dont worry Cappy, we still love ya if you copy Heroes and Heralds mode(…just leave those gems over there >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>)

You’re missing the point (again). You will still have Gems - no use of bitching because people will not bother to play with them if there’s an option to not select any Gem at all (something that is now confirmed).

Please go on with your Gem fetish and futile attempts of trolling and leave us alone - you will not be missed, that’s for sure.

Im not bitching , get that out of ur head wtf? i am not trolling

How about a poll :
How many people will actually play without equiping gems versus people that will use them
because lets face it. I don’t want to use them – but I will, because the double edge sword says 95% of the people I fight online in ranked will use them, So really aside from an endless lobby that you can title “No gems!” – people are going to use them if they are present and who can blame them.

I’d rather play either offline or with friends online, to be honst.

I cant wait to pick Auto block, meter building gems, and power on command throws.

MY GRAPPLERS WILL BE IRONNNNN

Spoiler

too bad I wanna play Yoshimitsu and Guy/Cody :frowning:

Who cares if random online games essentially require the equipping of gems? Just add some good players to your friends list and have it understood that you don’t want to pick gems in your endless lobbies.

Hey look, there’s already segregation between players who want to ban Gems and those who don’t!

Here, I’ll give you guys the best solution:
If Gems suck, just don’t run the damn game in tournaments.

Of course, they’re going to have to address the pre-order Gems first. If those aren’t dealt with, this game is doomed in tournaments before it’s even released. I’m not expecting tournament organizers to jump through thousands of hoops to run a game that clearly isn’t intended for competitive play.**
**

Banning gems solves exactly all of the problems you brought up. The game doesn’t have to be shunned competitively.

Where were you when MVC3 came out? X Factor is a necessary piece of shit. Gems are optional. Why weren’t you suggesting that game get ignored at tournaments?

When Capcom doesn’t care about the competitive community enough to make sure there is a clear “tournament standard” mode, then that’s plenty reason to keep it away from tournaments. You don’t try to fit the square block into the round hole. Otherwise, you’re going to get players who want to leave gems in, players who want gems banned, and others who want selective bans. Then among the players who want selective bans, there’s going to be even more dissent over which gems to ban. Players will be so split over what to do with them that it’s not worth the trouble.

Basically, if Capcom doesn’t want to please the competitive community, then tell them to fuck off by not running the game in tournaments. It’s as simple as that. And maybe, at some point, Capcom will wise up and either make gems available to everyone or add a gem-less mode.

Because at the very least, everyone who bought MvC3 got the same content no matter when or where they got it. Everyone gets to play the same broken piece of shit. But right now with SFxT, it’s like you can only play Wolverine if you bought it at Best Buy, Akuma if you got it at Game Stop, and Phoenix if you got it from Amazon. Oh, but if you get the special edition, you get all three broken pieces of shit plus a bonus extra broken piece of shit Dark Phoenix!

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to add the part where you don’t get any of those if you don’t pre-order! Hohoho, silly me.
