Put the blame solely on Capcom on this one. Namco only licensed the characters to them for this game. They have no input as to how the game is going to come out, just as Capcom won’t have any influence on Tekken X Street Fighter.
Even if they didn’t intend to make it optional, they probably will after negative feedback. But lets say this happens; this will be the first game where a gameplay system will be banned for being too expensive. Smash players will be well within their rights to call the community that picks this game up a bunch of broke ass scrubs!
It kind of sucks hearing Seth Killian talk about this in a positive light. He’s doing his job, but watching him paint this in even a partially good light is kind of painful. This is 100% bad. The system doesn’t matter as much as selling shit that’s possibly so integral to the system. It’s not like you can just buy the ones you want when it comes to tourneys. If the answer is to just not use it, it’s still bad.
Seriously this is a game where when it was found that a subsystem (Pandora) was apparently worthless… *people were relieved?! *What the fuck? “At least it’s useless” huh. Well why is it in the game then? I don’t want to play a game of "at least"s.
Those cunting assholes, this could have been the be-and-end all of fighting games and this is the money-grabbing shit they come up with? Fuck them.
Wow I can’t believe they are touting a sub system where we have to buy most of it through DLC. In that case I agree gems need to be banned. TOs are definitely not going to shell out extra cash for this. It sucks that a potentially good sub system was killed by this.
I love fighting games. Crossover’s more so. When my favourite characters are in the same game, I don’t expect to pay to have a certain advantage over someone else. Capcom are doing a good job on shitting on their fans.
looks at gem system
does told you so dance
I personally was excited for this system, but pre order exclusive gems? I’m even okay with DLC characters, but buying unlocks that make existing characters better is just bullshit. packs
does the gem system also customize the looks of characters? like tekken?
I was already on the fence over this game, and this has more or less pushed me into the “no thanks” camp. I’ll wait for SFV now and keep playing 3sOE and SSFIV.
I lost all interest when they put in the stupid “must link last normal if you want to cancel into specials”.
This just makes me laugh and feel bad for people who were still being optimistic.
lol
Lemme ask something
Is there ONE person who is willing to buy gems?
…
Exactly.
I hope you see that capcom.
If I want gems I’ll buy some damn rubies and emeralds in real life you dicks.
I lost interest with this game when it was announced reversals are still five frames. The chain system isn’t going to make them less useful neither is the horrible sf4 movement.
Power Stone
I’m positive that this isn’t going to be as bad as everyone is making it out to be.
That said, I don’t support it either.
Off topic.
I’m sure not all of them are paid. Why have a system like that… Probably just some special ones for the more casual fans like a 2x effecting gem thats 2.99 or something. Nothing anyone would pay for outside of sheer boredom I’m sure.
Have not seen anything to make me hate the system yet. I for one love the personalization mechanics some fighters use, and glad to see it coming back in this. None of the videos of it made it seem too out of control, if anything it reminds me of Pandora, supposedly powerful but very toned down just to be sure.
It’s just the paid aspect that’s worrying me. The idea of customizing and (hopefully) being able to use gems to cover your characters weaknesses sounds interesting.
Can these gems be activated every round or only once throughout the entire match? I hope this is a separate mode, there was already enough options to change the elements to the fight. Pandora mode? Fine. Activate Increased damage and defense? Overkill.
Think about what 5 attack power gems would do to Lili. Without gems, an EX to SA combo does around 60% to a character like Zangief. With those gems, I’m guessing near 1 combo ToD.
The whole idea will be to “break” the system somehow, finding that one gem/character combination that’s just super, super strong. Whether it’s super defense or super offense, it will happen. It’s the whole point, even if Capcom don’t present it as such.
