lmao, but to be fair one of the ideas behind the Gem System is that even mirror matches can have variety.

The problem is if there is a superior set of gems, which I think won’t happen since there will be passive gems, and people will chose 'em to fit their playstyle.

And that is the good part of it. The bad part of it as the sheer number of gems available and the fact that some will have to be buyed.

If the game had 10 different gems, already available on the start, and no additional gems being added by priced dlcs people wouldnt be complaining so much.

Quality > quantity.

Usually I’d agree with you, but as far as customisation goes, I think quantity is actually pretty important.

well in this situation sense there are so many, the wide range of possiblites have increased so people getting to that optimal Top tier setting will take alot longer then say it was in MVC3…because everyone had a idea on who was going to be top in that game…already, where as in this game its hard to say for the most part as the roster isnt even completely let along we know exactly what each gem does…

Hmm not so much. Diablo 2 had thousands theoretical options to customize your character. But EVERYBODY ended up selecting the same equipments and the same builds.

The same will happen here. The game will have 100+ gems but only 10-15 will be usefull.

Even if that’s the case, they’re willing to patch it. And we have a long way until we get to this situation, just because the better gems will be different for each character, so first they have to nail down the best characters so they can have the way to go gems with the way to go characters.

Until someone tries out a different combination that no one thought about with a character considered not too good and it end up really fucking good.

The possibilities are just too many to think it would become like that so early, it’s not just 100+ gems where you chose one, you get to combine 5 being able to use the same 3 times, too many combinations.

I haven’t really kept up with the gems discussion but given the cursory nature of this whole discussion I figure not a lot has been said.

That being said, while a huge proponent of the wait and see philosophy my own thoughts is that this is fine assuming that you cannot customize the core character[range and specifically speed]. More damage and changing properties of combo moves are one thing - they just punctuate things that are already there, I get more dmg off a combo that looks cooler. Auto blocking is a bit iffy, but whatever I should have blocked, but I didn’t so the game will save me this time. A bit of a deal if this game is massive dmg based as one opening could be a huge miss, but I’m all for re-pacing these kinda games. I wish there was something like that in marvel so that the insane 50/50s didn’t seem like people just rolling dice all the time…

But imagine if the ‘3rd hit hits harder’ thing wasn’t a wall bounce or somesuch but was increased frame adv. Would it be standardized? What else could be created from that? How many gem+char specific setups could result from that sorta thing? I’m all for customization but chess becomes somewhat harder to play if sometimes your opponents bishops can move like a knight and sometimes they have jetpacks.

TL;DR I’m all in favor for SOME customing, but the more you add Capcom just feels like hanging yourself from higher tree :confused:

If there are 100 gems, then how the FUCK are people gonna set up shit for tourny matches. Shit is gonna take forever. What stupid ass ideas could they possibly have to have over 100 gems. There is already auto teching and auto blocking. I bet it gets dumber. I wouldn’t have a problem if they simply made the gem system somewhat like Rumble Fighter excluding the purchasing. Just euip one speed, 2 speed, 3 speed, strength, etc. Seriously, fuck ono. The guy always has me and then crushes all hopes of the game being good, if there was any even left.

Variety and numbers don’t matter. What matters is if those “10-15” useful gems provide for interesting match-ups.

i heard someon say we should look at these gems like the runes in League of Legends. That actually sounds alot better because the runes in LoL fit your playstyle. Although you do have to buy them…

All about that Chun-li, Dhalsim and using ball bearings as marbles!

Edit: The thing about the Gems is that those setups are store server wide and if you enter a tournament, it is most likely online where you don’t have to keep setting them up every game. This on the other hand means more time on character select. In the end all the gems are going to do is be a crutch complaint from scrubs about why they are losing.

If they spent less time making characters less shitty, we wouldn’t need the fucking gems. I guess that’s my problems with the gems, it can only make the best characters better and the rest of the people continue having the same performance issues with artificial enhancements that the better characters will get. Looking at the clusterfuck of shitty balancing happening in both UMvC3 and in SF4 makes me have 0 faith in this system.

Fucking hate being this critical about something because I’ve enjoyed both SF4 and MvC3 at some levels but god damn it are some of the things they do baffling.

But they don’t need to put them all together with no organizing at all, it may be divided into folders like Offensive, Deffensive, Status, Passive, and from them it will be less gems, and people will be familiar with their builds and will go straight for it.

But yeah, an arcade card"ish" thing would be so much better so carry your build around with you.

Makes me wish PS style memory cards were still the standard.

Like people said. There’s probably going to be an optimal build for each char/team and peeps will roll with that.

I just don’t like how money has to be involved.

That would be like if you had to pay DLC for additional assists in MVC3. Just sounds dumb.

I personally would like to see these banned in tournaments, but to be honest I wouldn’t mind the first few majors trying to see what happens if you allow the in game gems. None of the un lockable or pre order or DLC gems but just the ones you get when you first play the game. I think it would be interesting to see how the community reacts to it. Rather then just rejecting it immediately.
