The Gem System Thread

while it is true that you acquire skill by way of a time investment, you are not entitled skills by virtue of simply investing the time (nor is the ratio/slope the same across individuals).
Life doesnt work this way.
Games that operate under this premise are not entertaining to me.
SF has never subscribed to this gimmick, and to me was a symbol of the skill over time input paradigm.

qualifying statement: I know next to nothing about how the gem system will be implemented, not reaaly paying much attn, it is posssible they could pull it together, like some type of limited custom groove thing. But right now, its looking scary. I guess I will wait and see

I’m just happy my main man Mystic Manly Heihachi is in this game and I do enjoy seeing him in a new art style. Good for a change of pace. Those who are concerned about him looking too goofy take these games way too seriously, and this is someone who has been playing fighting games for almost 20 years.

The personal attack @ Ono are also pretty amusing. Ever since Vanilla, fighting game scenes have been getting a massive surge of popularity. We can talk about the 09ers coming in, but the fact is that people came in and now seem to be here to stay. What good a game if you can’t enjoy it with other people, anyway? But I guess what’s an internet forum and speculation about something new without automatically assuming it’s crap…

Fuck posts like this. Enjoy your infraction.

P.S. Balance is overrated. MvC2 and 3rd Strike are still the most hype games ever made.

• There will be a couple hundred gems available in Street Fighter X Tekken from the start.

• Gems vary by offense, defense and speed, but there are a lot of sub-categories in there.

• One example is a gem where the 3rd punch hits really hard. This wasn’t elaborated on.

• According to Ono, the gem system is important as the super art or ultra combos, a very core thing. There’s no modes where gems aren’t accessible.

• Gems will be on the disc and if they need to expand after that, they can. If the community thinks of good ideas there could be more gems made available as DLC, in the future.

• There is some concern that people might not be using the tool set the developers had in mind. If things aren’t working right, they can adjust the tool set for the community.

There you go, hype coming back.

Poison and Kazuya/Bob/Raven/Law, here I come.

well i told you guys not to give up hope…and look its not as bad as it looked~

It actually gave me hope, since Cross Assault came up I was thinking “this game is shitty”, but the RPG’ish’ thing of the gem system made me hyped again, and then the possibility of being like a few gems and DLC, but it’s not an option anymore, so I’m finally hyped for the game.

I’m glad I am hyped, the roster is really amazing and it would be a shame if I haven’t played it.

I take no offense to your question. I believe both look cartoonish and silly. I never said sfxtekken didn’t. I was simply implying I will give it a shot since I’m turning into a Tekken nut.

Without a doubt I think Heihachi looks exaggerated. I’m simply saying I will give the game a chance since I’m on such a big Tekken kick as of late.

But Ono said that more than 100 would be available from the start and that for DLC, they will take a back seat approach and see how it pans out. It sounds to me like he’s not trying to have DLC gems if they arent necessary. But if the game somehow evolves, then he has the necessary tools to put DLC gems in. Hopefully these DLC gems will be free and if they are, then all of this can work itself out

lol. I thought he would appear to be more “dark” as well, but in defense of whoever he looks worse during cut scenes and such.

Also, while tuning into Frame Trap Live they said its possible there will be different gems for the different place’s you pre-order game. Can anyone confirm anything of this nature.

Or like a Super SF X Tekken, but since the game will have so many characters, we get just stages, gems and stuff for a reasonable price.

It’ll be hype until a certain combination of gems on a specific character completely blows up the game and we have “insert OP character here” the basis for Team Good vs Team Evil for Season’s Beatings 2012.

The sad thing about it is that it’s not on current builds, I have no interest at all in watching or playing the game until we can see some gem action…

With over a couple of hundred gems it will take quite some time for that, and the team seems to be willing to patch it.

Won’t be as fast as Wolverine for Marvel 3…

i want to see Gems in action and see how people adjust to them, personally i want to see some crazy Gems that actually mimic status effects, like one depleting Cross Gauge or another slowly eats away at your reserve characters health as this mite becomes someones strategy. or imagine some Gems used for the anti meta at the time~ it gets really interesting if you think about it~

there are limitless potential in this system so just thinking about what can happen is alittle overwhelming.

I can’t hate on the gems…I wan’t to so bad, but I believe it will add strategic value which SF fans love. I feel like Ono is trying to bring a style of MVC into his SF vision with Pandora and Gems(being the equivalent of assist types in a odd way).

Your ideas never crossed my mind. If that is the case I will skip this game.

No it is not.Lack of balance just insures that i will se the same characters online and the same matchups in all tourneys.

I guess the 2008 was so much hype and fun and mind blowing because the 4th and 5 were also Chun-li players. How much fun! I barely can wait to watch all those mirrors again.

So much fun. Later today i will show how much fun mvc2 also was, with all those 4 or 5 different teams mirroring matching each other.

Hype!

seriously…
