What i liked about Grooves & Alpha 3 was that their were advantages & disadvantages with each play style. So everything balanced out more or less. With the 40+ gems, I seems like a balance disaster. They never said there was side effects to gems (i heard super meter burn. but will they burn meter anyway if they auto-activate?). But we’ll know soon.
I only know what I see. And what I saw was a Damage gem auto-activate off of conditions. Which I do not agree with. If the gem is available after I hit the opponent 5 times, fine. But I should have a choice whether I want to use it or not. If i do happen to have that choice, they should explain these things during the demos of the gem system.
I think the idea of the Gem system is bad for this game. If the gems are anything like what I am imagining, then I do not play Street Fighter for these type of antics. Why do you need supplements to beat someone? Why can’t you just be BETTER than the other person. I do not need gems to individualize my Ryu/SteveFox/King. My playstyle is different because I practice to be.
i wonder if some characters will not be able to use certain gems? zangief getting a damage boost or Rufus a speed boost could be pretty scary.and wasnt there a picture showing ryu with a bigger projectile? so there might be character type specific gems?
also i wonder if we’ll get any silly gems like- Poison Hadokens, or Normals cause chip
Call me hardcore, but I do not cosign the universal ABC-Launcher combos in this game either. Thats not what Street Fighter or Tekken is known for.
I wish Capcom would have just focused on new mechanic(s) that compliments both SF & Tekken players. And if the core fighting is good, you not need all of these gimmicks to make things interesting for years to come.
More questions need to be answered. But at the moment, this gem system is looking like an unnecessary tacked-on horrible idea.
That would kind of be retarded and give a handicap to the character that cannot enjoy the same system boost as another character. Everyone should have access to the same tools if they choose to.
There are links in this game. It was recently confirmed that the only way to cancel a combo into a basic special move is by linking an attack. If you do the chain combo, you can not end it with a special cancel. So links will be used in a similar way to SF4, and could be equally, if not more useful, than the chain combos.
Most of us are completely fine with the implementation of a gem system. That’s not the issue here.
The issue is how Capcom will go about making gems available. If certain gems can only be accessed via DLC or pre-ordering, and those gems remain a core part of the game, then there’s gonna be a major problem.
Wrong again. Throws are very weak in the current version. However, in very early builds, throwing in SFxT was WAY too powerful, which is why they greatly reduced the range of throws. This reduction in throw range is what cause the throws to be garbage (which is what you see in the current build). Seth Killian said that the balancing of regular throws is not set in stone right now. There will most likely be more changes made to throws directly and other parts of the game to help make throws as balanced as possible (not too weak, and not too strong). Developers would never say, “oh we just didn’t have throws in mind (not ‘mine’) for this game”
I guess the Gem system could work, trying to find out what works best for your play style and whatnot. I just expect people to find broken combinations that completely take the fun out of the game.
As long as I don’t have to pay anything extra for these Gems, or have to spend/waste time unlocking them I’m fine with it.
The fact that there is an autoblock and auto throw tech gem makes this whole gem system reek of a company catering to bad players instead of taking the time to make those players better and teach them how to block properly and how to tech throws.
After x factor it’s really hard to trust that capcom will handle this properly.
Games that feature auto guard or an easy mode that has auto block.
Alpha 1
Alpha 2
Alpha 2 Gold
X-men Children of the Atom
Vampire
Vampire Hunter
Vampire Savior
Vampire Savior 2
Vampire Hunter 2
Marvel Super Heroes
X-men Vs Street Fighter
Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter
Marvel vs Capcom 1
Only one of those games was it better to be in easy mode.
It. Costs. Meter. If bad players wanna hop on it for scrubby reasons they’ll have a wake up call in the form of never having useful EX Moves or specials or tag opportunities. Don’t be afraid of that outcome. Hell, smile deviously at it.
If not for trying new things we wouldn’t even have :qcf: motions to do speical moves, 3v3 tag games and some mo stuff.
Marvel super had Gems, 6 of the that gave Everything from power up to invincibility. They didn’t break the game at all infact it wasn’t even about the gems when it was all said and done.
Most of you posting aren’t even good enough to really voice a complaint about actual game balance… And it shows because alot of you jump to the conclusion that auto blocking or teching is going to be free or the speed up is going to be 50 longs with a 50% speed increase.
Does anyone here remember the initial reaction to X-men vs Street Fighter’s system? I can only imagine what the reaction was when Ryu did a beam super at the end of a 15 hit chain combo/air launch.
Don’t you watch the reveal trailer’s of characters? They Hardly do any abc launch combo’s and It was said that tekken character will have some of their tekken chains. As for gems I embrace gem that give you a extra meter bar. More combo options hahaha
The gem system might end up being fun. I’m pretty bad about choosing the same couple of characters in games so if it allows me to play them in different, legitimate ways, then great.
What I wouldn’t like is one superior build to every other which ruins the point of even having the choice. I also don’t like the idea of DLC only gems but hopefully it won’t be too bad.
A main bother is the fact that you have to pay for the gems and its use in tournament play. If there are a multitude of gems, how will it be chosen in tournaments. Will the tournaments for this game be scarce or remove gems in order to work since they’ll either have to buy every dlc gem or have none at all before complaints come.
Then in top tournaments how will they set this up? If everyone has to customize their own gem set then the tournaments will take forever with everyone setting their own specifics after switching from console to console. Even if it is fun, it shouldn’t be forced in tournament play given the nature of dlc and preorder gems
. Why not just make all of them unlockable or have to download some kind of challange to get it (which in still would be a hassle for tournament people to set up).
really…you didnt watch the follow up interview with seth…most of this was answered if not all.
the fact you have to pay for gems and its use in tournament play…well consider this…there are Gems unlocked by default. use them. It is not mandatory to have DLC gems, in fact maybe its better of because everyone is bitching about the TO not having the money to shed out for DLC in general so why even bring this up.
how will top tournaments set this up? if it becomes a problem with time constraints, they will give players a set time limit if the game does not do it already…
its really pointless to think about pre-order/collectors editions, DLC. Its a wide fact that TO have to get the game, if that because mostly there will be a copy to play at a tournament. Gems do not= new update of the game, so its not Mandatory for everyone to have them. even though this is a assumption its a rather decent one…
the only DLC i’ve seen that is necessary are characters or whole balance patches…(please help me out if this isnt 100% true)
Its getting kinda old talking in circles, as it seems like some newer post seem to relate to things already discussed.
