I leave extremely disappointed… I mean this is embarrassing.
Anyways Amazon charges sales tax in my state and doesn’t offer free release date shipping on many titles I’m interested in, so I just go to gamestop for the 2-3 games I buy a year. No point in waiting a few days for a new release when the price difference is only a couple cents
It’s a retail chain. I’ll never get the irrational hostility the gaming community seems to harbor against them
Funny, almost every time I go into GameStop the asm is on the phone with one of the big wigs discussing on how to cut hours down. Don’t they make huge profits?
I only go there for the entertainment value of being racially profiled
Clerk: Would you like to pre order MAdden 20XX sir?
Me: Of course, May I also pre order Fried Chicken x Watermelon also?
clerk looks sheepishly…
Me: Im Indian , not black lol. Thanks for playing. Your lost sale is in another castle. Toodles
If I buy from gamestop, I get to play the game the same day. I also get more pay options, simpler and quicker trade ins (though I seldom trade in games because I don’t buy bad games…sans re6). I also can occasionally find the same deals for games (if you include shipping and tax from amazon).
*I know they make their money off used games but sometimes they have good ones. I try not to talk to them about anything because GAMESTOP is most of their lives. *
*They play a bunch of different games in a short amount of time that outside of, it was fun or it wasn’t fun with a few examples is all I can take seriously from them. *
I only shop at one gamestop cause I know the people there and they are real cool. Even hosted tournaments for our local scene…but I still dont shop there often. Only when im looking for a game that I cant find at another place (like recently Lollipop Chainsaw for $20) or when they have good deals. Like ill trade games into them that know one on craigslist wants, or when im able to flip games that I find cheap (I got a like new vita 3g from them using $120 basically, THEY ALSO actually goofed by putting a 3g vita in a wifi used package)
B2G1’s sometimes, a rare pre-order
The employees are usually annoying but just be an ass to them back or something, they cant do anything lol
but yeah, most my games come from amazon and gamefly used sales
Used to manage a store before I moved to California. I enjoyed it aside from the customers, about the new opened game thing, I would always drop it 10%. DM didn’t like it but I was usually pulling tons of reserves and subs so I used the whole, “I used what resources I could.” excuse and it worked.
I miss it but from what I’ve heard from my old co-workers, it’s turned into what Eazy-E said about Death Row.
What was the very first incarnation of GameStop called… or was it always GameStop? I know at least one of 'em went through hella name changes over the years.
I explained why in the post you quoted. They charge sales tax so I’m not really saving any money ordering from them in my state. It just takes longer to get new releases.
I shop at Amazon for old games/discount games. Which is usually how I end up playing most modern releases really.
When something comes out that I want to buy at release though, I go to gamestop
I don’t really. Like I said I clicked the thread because of your Alberto avatar. Huge Giant Robo fan.
Disappointed in the poster it’s attached to tho.
and gamestop has been around since I was in the 9th grade. I’ve been to many different stores since then over the years. I think that’s a pretty decent representative sample to base my claim upon.
There is some new asshole at the one in my town who just badgers the hell out of me for power up rewards or whatever it is. I’m not a confrontational person, but I’m to the point where I just want to tell him to fuck off. Such a goddamn annoying place
I was in the Best Buy gamers club for a while, they’re pretty shitty too. Not the actual gamers club since the gamer guys at BB know their shit, but they are more or less pushed to the side in favor of EVERYTHING ELSE inside the store, the gamer section is like the black sheet red headed stepchild of Best Buy.
To make a long story short there was a dispute over the amount of points I had spent etc etc and I was just fed up and went back to gamestop. The real deal breaker is that they close at 9pm so you’ll never get a midnight release.
The only thing Gamestop does truly well is the deals on new games, theyve started this new thing with the “hot deals” where relatively new games are 20-40 bucks for only a day or two, usually on the weekends, sometimes on random Thursdays. Which is why I go there just about every day I drive by one just to see whats going on.
Most GS stuck. If you have several in your area, try to frequent the one with the least traffic. Theres one nearby that doesnt even showup on google search, literally nobody knows about it and the guys there actually play games which is truly unbelievable.
I’d hate on Gamestop, but we have an independent store that is so aggressive with their sales pitches that you literally cannot walk around the store without being approached by 3 different people. I pre-order games/blue rays off of amazon, I don’t go to gamestop unless they offer some godlike pre-order bonus, and even then it’s usually not worth the trouble.
I wouldn’t be too hard on that statement. I’ve never been to a “hangout worthy” Gamestop, but as many of them as there are there’s probably several where the local culture makes it a worthy hangout spot.
You can’t go to a Gamestop to hang out…you’ll have some hyper add-riddled yuppie brat toddler run into you with his armload of wii games, fall down and hurt himself, and you’ll be up for a hate crime charge…for standing in one spot reading the back of a ps3 game box. SO goddamn many of them running around clutching shovelware in every Gamestop I’ve been in.
